Best North American Resort to Skibum

Me and a bunch of friends are trying to workout which is the best resort to hit up this year for 8-12 wks riding (not working).

Factors:

- Snow Quality/Quantity

- Terrain (Backcountry + Parks)

- Scene/Vibe

- Crowds

- Nightlife

- Cost

We've already been to:

- Breck/Keystone/Vail

- Winter Park

- Aspen/Snowmass

- Alta

- Whistler

- Killington

- Mont Treblant

How about Tahoe? North or South?

I know this is kind of a big question and everyone will have different opinions, keen to hear it all though - Al

tahoe. greatest snow, terrain parks, chicks, cheap housing, and a lake to swim in taboot. get there now.

Mammoth. You can ski there for days and still not see everything the mountain has to offer, plus they have some of the coolest employees ever there. If would ski there all the time if i lived close.

Tahoe:

Does Heavenly get mad busy?

Do you need a car do Tahoe properly?

There's lodas of Tahoe resorts but we're not gonna wanna pay day rates at the window, so what's the best season pass or combination of passes?

Oh and apologies for newbisms on my part, just tryin to get the inside line from actual skiiers. Official websites and magazines are so mostly aimed at people on vacation, not people putting in a solid few months.

South Lake Tahoe's sounding pretty good. If anyone has any tips on classfied ad sites or accomodation websites that'd be sweet.

Yeh, I went to east coast once by accident and it it was pretty average. Killington was nice but Tremblant was full of rude people with weird accents, I can speak french, but not like that...

tremblant and killington are both baller, i have a shitty local hill with less than 1000 ft vert. yay

Squaw is pretty pricey for a bum, but I'd say anywhere in Northlake will work. There are a couple of gems that get less crowds, and a TON of resorts within a 1 hr hitchhike.

Mammoth:

- Does it get busy at weekends? (I know most places get busier, I just mean is it like Whistler where half of 'couver turns up because the mountain promised 3ft of ficticious powder to bump ticket sales, or is it like Aspen, where everyone's still in the Prada shop?)

- What's the nightlife/bar scene there like?

tahoe cuz theres like 100 mountains there....

or go to mammoth just for a sick laid back town with people who love to ski

here is my utah advice killer pow and terrain a good mix of various resorts all w/ different features , central local >8 h 2 tahoe ,CO, ID, MT ect for the road trip. affordiable housin good and various employment ops.

A true skibum would work&live in a lodge like the gmd pdog in the L2xc

his nightlife would consist of various ways to get high and drunk ocassionally wax his skis an watch snow accumulate

Id write more but the e-community is partially about the building of a knowledge base i posted a better post in the thread on this very same subject last year but now that good 6 page thread is buried and you haz start the new one maybe it will go 3 pages who knows

but imo if you take the time to search and then people add good input that thread becomes more useful should someone figure out how to fix this pathtic searchbar so people can use it

fuck the karmaz just get w/ the brogram

Here is my problem with the tahoe and Utah areas. They need a fucking epic pass. I would love to like in tahoe when I can bum but I don't want to be stuck to one place and have to pay day tickets to Ski elsewhere same goes for Utah. If they had that I would probably be in slc right now but am probably going to bum in co since I am here already and I can ski 6 resorts on one pass

The fact that the slopes are not epically clusterfucked packed w/ cheap pass, couldnt figure out a way to score a cheap pass on their own, and just have to pay more for parkin, eats and drinks, and other resort ammenities, masses is not a problem it is a blessing

There is also this pass you can et where you put these rodnee binders and these funny lookin stickey various mohair material things on the bottom of your skis that allow you to climb up various EPIC peaks and ski them

Bro tip ; take the stickey skin things off before descending and have your self rescue and snow safety skills dialed

i know they had one last year...it was called the millenium pass or something like that....its like 1000 bucks for every tahoe resort

Take Tremblant right off of that list, doesn't compare to any other of said mountains. It's small compared to the mountains listened, probably 200-500cm a year, and it's fuckin cold here. -35 celsius is common in January, February.

I would say Whistler is your best bet. Huge mountain, best parks, good nightlife, but it is probably the most expensive to bum.

you could get alpine/kirkwood/homewood passits like 700 dollars? im not sure but its no black outs for all three resorts and there should be cheaper options with black outs

GO TO MOUNT BAKERjumps built everywhere, no need for a park, dumps ungodly ammounts, very very mellow locals and i guess you could drink with them but you might be too tired from skiing so damn much, and its real cheap, if you got stacks though i'd go to JACKSON, epic night life and way better mountain in my opinion but less dumps and more $

oh and whitewater BC is the tits, they let you camp in the parking lot, nelson BC is the dopest town up there, and they sell like $20 tickets or something for one ride up to skin the deep stuff up top all day
