next winter my dad is taking me out west for my 16th birthday, i live in ohio and ski at perfect north slopes, but i am dying to go out west,

I just wanted to know what the best resort to go to would be, i want a lot of ride vs wait time but i also want a really sweet place to ski with a nice intermediate to medium sized park

any thoughts or suggestions?

just go to utah man. You will have a ton of options and will have park if it doesnt snow and snowbird/brighton/alta if it does. Trust me, I grew up at perfect north and now I live out here

Steamboat is a very nice place to ski and they have an alright park it's pretty fun. Lots of cool terrain morning side lift is fun and they have some good tree skiing. Another nice part about steamboat is that every thing feeds down to the main base area unlike Breck where you could end up in multiple base areas if you make a wrong turn or take the wrong lift.

thanks dude, did you go to college out there? because i think my dad wants to do a college visit out there because i want to live out there so bad

squaw valley is so insane so much inbound terrain anything you can imagine is inbounds and the inbounds diffculty is crazy at parts of it, also lots of easy hiking that require no beacon or anything

whistler is also ENORMOUS, so much terrain variety can't go wrong with it

I went to Whistler for my first western ski trip. It was amazing. There'll probably be more wait in the middle of winter than when I went in april. You may want to look into that

people like you piss me off...kids first trip out west, skis at shitty perfect north, and your like oh man go to whistler you got so many parks. Your fucking out west go ski some real terrain fuck the park. People like you are the type of people who give freeskiers a terrible image because you suck at skiing

most kids that go out west on their FIRST trip arent really into or are prepared to drop big lines.

I am going to say breck, it is the perfect spot for a vacation IMO you get good skiing at breck, keystone, and a-basin, no need to rent a car with the free bussing. you get a nice town, some dope ski shops, and a sick atmosphere. Two of the best parks in the world, and both key and breck arent flat and have good terrain.

I agree. There are a bunch of resorts right there so you can change it up. Also, if you ski at perfect north, any mountain you go to out west if going to blow your dick off in ways you cant imagine yet. You really cant make a wrong choice here so have a great trip man

My first choice would be Mammoth. The parks are amazing and the natural terrain is incredible. The resort is massive too. But Utah isn't bad either. I've been to Alta/Snowbird/Park City and they are really fun. You can't go wrong!

PNW!!!crystal (summer skiing), Stevens, Baker, Timberline, Meadows, Ski Bowl, and last and definitely least; Snoqualmie (snocompton)

why you such a bitch? yeah i love skiing, i realize im not that good but theres only so much you can do at perfect north... i dont know why your mad that i want to go somewhere i can try new stuff?

I don't think that was directed towards you. There was a quote reply from someone else with that comment.

i'd say steamboat all the way for a first trip, but really its hard to go wrong.

steamboat just seems so reliable. further north so smaller crowds, snow will be great earlier and later in the season than further south. and a great variety of terrain. great family town, really genuine.

its perfect for my family because, you know, I SKI THE BLACK DIAMONDS!!!!! but my dad likes to just cruise on the greens and blues. and at steamboat he can feel ballsy on the blue-blacks like longhorn and stuff. though hes so content lapping sunshine for days.

oh and eat at the Egg and I for breakfast at least once. shit is so prime

Not mad just realizing you're talking and acting like a 13 year old.

My previous statement about Tahoe still stands, BITCH.

Don't feel bad. KravtZ is a whiny baby.

Don't know too much about Colorado but Tahoe is always a good bet because of the amount of resorts out here. Mammoth is also pretty amazing.

Go ski some real terrain? The only reason I go to whistler is for 'real terrain'. The amount of alpine is HUGE, and there are many places that if you can't ski well, you'll end your vacation soon enough. Also the town is awesome, and the people are super friendly.

you will have the time of your life riding out here in utah. If it dumping, go alta/snowbird, but if you're digging park the obvious choice is pc. Or even try Jackson hole, one of the most amazing mountains i have ever skied! and their natural terrain park is way fun too. have a good time wherever you go

Copper if you don't want to deal with the millions of fanboys that flock to Vail resorts because its "cool", plus a sick park, and did i say no crowds. Plus, CU, CSU, Metro, DU, Wyoming, and CC are all colleges near there

i live in tahoe but a buddy and i went to breck for a week this winter and it was such a sick trip. we didnt wait in lift lines very long and skied all day. the free bus system is easy to figure out and is super convinient. And ya the town and shops are sick. id definitely go to breck.

none of those are "near: any of the resorts.

if op wants to ski and go to school cmc is your best choice in CO.

Aspen/snowmass. Biggest ski resort in America. I've worked there the last two seasons and they have everything from The steepest lines to perfect parks and everything in between. Just don't go during the big holidays or weekends and you'll have the place to yourself.

this, unless you ski somewhere good in New England or QC don't expect to drop "big lines" although I grew up skiing out west one week or more every year(like 10 days a year) It is not a given you will shred pow on your first run.

Copper has a great fun park and has Woodward I went there this winter, last summer and am going on July 1. There is a reason why, it's because copper is sick!

/images/flash_video_placeholder.pngAlso Peter was my coach last summer, Go P-Dog!

I'm not pro and never said I was, I just explained that that was not true in my case

wow you moved from PA to Denver and ski in Breck and Keystone, please tell me how pro you are!

;)

ahahahahah I'll be sure to look out for you next time I'm skiing at Vail or something. (probably next February if I'm lucky) :)

For real If you're thinking of CO don't go anywhere near Denver. It'll be crowded as fuck and hit or miss if you get good snow. Aspen/Snowmass is great for terrain variety and parks, Telluride is also sick but they don't have too much of a park.

But really Montana sucks, don't go there.

woah sorry bud, he asked for a good place to ski out west and i gave my opinion because i thought whistler is a great place to ski mostly cuz its got everything to offer
