These are the 20 best movies of all time. Since you guys seem to like to discus movies. The list was made by the American Film Institure and the panel includes hundreds of critics, actors, acting choaches and other geniuses of cinema. As you can see most movies are quote old. And have probibly been given their high ranking because of the ground breaking (at the time) format.

i should really read the actual post sometimes

Diamonds... She'll pretty much have to

hmmn, pulp fiction should be higher in my opinion, both it and taxi driver should be on the top 20

'skinny dipping sesh, later.' - laguna beach.

no doubt, sit back on the couch, pants down, rubber on, set to turn that ass out. Laid the bitch out, then i put it in her mouth, pulled out, nutted on a towel, then passed out.

the afi is a bunch of blowhard self back patters.

though that list does have good movies in it, alot of them suck nuts. old movies are nto very good, some are, alot have just cheesy lines and overhyped actors that could never make it on stage. this is of course true of today, but that list fails to mention alot of gooders and groundbreakers.

where's top gun! seriously, how can you beat when he looks at his watch and flexes at the same time! hahahaha.

i would have to agree.

on afi's list, there are so many incredible movies that are displaced by totally overrated movies. 'Schinin no samurai' should be up there, as well as the 'seventh seal', and the masterpieces 'nosferatu' and 'battleship potempkin'.

take that AFI

i think influence had almost as much to do with it as it's content, that's why you won't see more obscure movies on there.

that list is so old that a bunch of really great movies have come out since then. its not the most valid list ever

shawshank does not deserve to be there by any means.

Good will hunting, maybe. Good directing, great screenplay, and the acting is near brilliant.

Diamonds... She'll pretty much have to

If any of those movies came out today I am not sure that would be that highly regarded. However, they got it right with godfather near the top of the list.

icelander i produce a movie list for the modern kid NOT old movies though i had SOME on that list that were on mine so chill out.

dude... the measure of a good movie is how much you like it, not how well it was rated by the afi.

there needs to be some adam sandler up there, or at least honorable mention... like billy madison! miss lippy is the best... oh that crazy hippie

signatures are overrated.

1. Citizen Kane-possibly the greatest story ever told, and at its time, how it was told was original in that point in time. Makes my to 10.

2. Casablanca-definately in my top 50, classical story of what kind of depression goes with love, as well as its beauty, plus set in the background of french/german morocco was a cool idea.

3. The godfather makes my top ten, easily, as well as part 2. This is the greatest saga ever envisioned.

4. Gone with the wind is so fucking overrated it makes me cry. So goddamn long, it does not make my top 100 list. However it definately was a milestone in film.

5. Lawrence of Arabia has the greatest performance of the 20th century. Though it is kinda long, it doesnt seem that way. This is my favourite movie from the 60's and before, and it makes my top 5 list. Everything in this movie was good, directing, cinematography, screenplay, editting, everything!

6. Wizard of Oz-Didnt those flying things scare the shit out of you when you first watched this movie. They did me. But besides that, nothing really special, though it is good.

7. The graduate-now this movie was really a step forward for feminism, as the only really strong character is the wife. A very innovative film at the time, with good performances, and a screenplay that leaves all other movies similar to this fall really short puts this on my top 50.

8. On the Waterfront-top 50 for sure. Marlon Brando is possibly one of the greatest actors ever, and this film is no exception. Plus, it really opened up the 'bad guy' role for more subtleties.

9. Schindlers list-great performances, good screenplay, ok directing. This movie is overrated in my opinion tho. Neeson is extremely underrated tho, and this movie will still make my top 100.

10. I have never seen singing in the rain, and i have yet to even know if the plot is more than just the title.

11. Its a wonderful life-For some reason i still love watching this movie from time to time. It was the first movie that was actually just a bunch of 'oh shit' occurances, and its very good. Top 50

12. Never seen sunset boulevard

13. Brdige on the river kwai is a good movie with an extremely good moral. Wait, scratch that, both are fantastic and EXTREMELY well directed and acted. Top 20. Watch it, and you are gonna think twice about pride.

14. Some like it hot- Why does it take so long for a real comedy to get on the top. Perhaps has the best three way chemistry of any movie ever made, and started the whole transvestite craziness thats pretty much everywhere still today. Top 100 for sure, plus finally somebody talks about munroes ass.

15. Star Wars-Fuck you, this soap opera overrated bullshit is actually before 2001? Allthough han solo does kick some ass, and darth vader really means dark father, WHOA CREATIVITY. Now all we need is some hairy beast that we can name after a texture.

16. All about Eve-never seen this one

17. African queen-i have only seen this 1/2 way through, but it looks pretty good so far.

18. Psycho-of all the hitchock movies, this one is debatably the best. Its about time a hitchcock movie got here tho, as they are mostly good(some are REALLY bad). Best horror movie ever. Top 20.

19. Chinatown-once again nicholson is a guy that most people like to not like, but he gets a nail in the nose for it. Good 'modern film noir'. top 50.

20. One flew over the cuckoos nest- I love this movie, especially the ending. He gets EXACTLY what he deserves.

Movies i would put in there instead. 2001, memento, manchurian candidate, maltese falcon, blackhawk down, thin red line, and i'll think of more, dont you worry.

Diamonds... She'll pretty much have to

wow, ive only seen 2 movies on that list(star wars, and the wizard of oz) my top three would have to be...

1. Half Baked

2. Blow

3. Office Space

I Ski at the crappiest hill ever.

i disagree with that list, mainly because of the lack of shawshank redemption

'In rode the Lord of the Nazgul. A great black shape against the fires beyond, he loomed up, grown to a vast menace of despair. In rode the Lord of the Nazgul, under the archway that no enemy ever yet had passed, and all fled before his face.

All save one. There, waiting silent and still in the space before the gate, sat Gandalf upon Shadowfax : Shadowfax, who alone among the free horses of the earth endured the terror, unmoving, steadfast as a graven image in Rath Dinen.'

these should be honurable mentions...

Resevoir Dogs

Full Metal Jacket

Pulp Fiction

Scarface

You don't get to choose how you're going to die. Or when. You can only decide how you're going to live. Now.

We're just two lost souls swimmin in a fish bowl, year after year. Runnin' over the same old ground, what have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

Fuck you, and fuck star wars, well at least I, II, and IV.

#1-the saga is just a revamped version of 'merlin', which is a better saga than this. Allthough i must admit that the parallels are well done.

#2-the 'hero' is somebody i would shoot the minute he opened his mouth if i were han solo.

#3- I cant believe nobody figured out that darth vader was luks 'dark father' until the end #2.

#4- There was no 'sci-fi' to it at all, unless all you consider is that its in space.

This brings me to another point, how many real science fiction movies are there? So many of these movies are just adventures in space, and have absolutely no thought involved in them whatsoever. 2001, red planet, the matrix and solaris come to mind as good examples of real sci fi movies, and unfortunately mission to mars is as well.

Cuddle? You fag!
