I know there are a lot of threads on this subject I appologize, but each page takes like 5 minutes to upload and Im long over due for an upgrade.

Basicly I just want a laptop that I can use to edit videos and stuff without it lagging( on a budget of course)

Would greatly appreciate anyone that could point me in the right direction

What ratio footage do you want to edit ? 1080p ? 8bit 16bit. Ram will play a huge role in your lagging issue. I tend to believe if you have a normal laptop, and you add ram to it, editing will become more agreeable.I have macbook pro 13... Pricy but still not enough for solid editing and grading (Da vinci Resolve won't even launch). I added extra 4go ram and it feels good now.

It would be nice to know what exactly that budget is. Regardless here are two options:

Mac:

MacBook Pro with Retina display (15-inch, 2013)

Windows:

Razer Blade.

Dude, you've got to get a dell...

IMO you really can't beat this laptop for it's price.

I was reading a little about this, it seems like this is the case imo.

You should be able to get a computer that can edit 1080p HD just fine < $1000.

If you get a MacBook Pro as I did, I got a student discount which knocked off about $200, then i got Apple Care which added $200 but it was seriously worth it. Total coverage on my amazing laptop, and at $1,100.

I went from 17" mbp to 13" mb air and I don't mind it at all, I work on two 27" monitors every day so any laptop seems small haha.

I don't even understand how to do work without 2 20"+ monitors, way to cramped to do shit on one and a laptop at that

ive got a samsung series 7 chronos that has held up really well and can handle me running a ton of CS6 at once. definitely a good option

i got a mac retina through a friend who works at an apple dealer and honestly i am kinda fed up with apple. for the past 3 months it has been crashing randomly giving kernel errors and nothing i have done seems to help it. when it's working the way it should it's awesome. but a HUGE downside is also not being able to do any work on it yourself if something breaks. i do have apple care so im ok but idk if i will go back to apple after this. if i didnt need a laptop i would build a hackintosh

Sorry to hijack this thread but I don't want to start a new one and get yelled at.

My Mom just bought me this for my business (my Macbook pro is shitting bricks lately) for $1000 today tax and Office Suite included. Did she do me good? What's the benefit of having a second, 24 SSD? Mine comes wtih it...

Also, any suggestions on both transferring my information from my old Mac to this new PC, and how to reformat my external drive for a PC without losing the info? I don't want to lose 15,000 songs, 10 years of my photos, and video footage...

For this, I forgot to ad that I'll be mostly streaming videos like netflix, a lot of excel, word, and adobe work. Soon as I can get my hands on some software I'll be photo and video editing as well but not extensively. I also usually have at least a bajillion tabs open on my computer and my Macbook Pro does not seem lo like that anymore.

Yes.

It might be kind of overkill if your just kinda using excel and streaming though.

SSD is just faster more reliable memory. No spinning parts

Thanks. I guess overkill is better than underkill eh? So do I actually store certain types of documents or programs on it, or does the computer just figure out what gets used most often and automatically do that for me? Should I just store everything on the main HD and leave the SSD alone?

If the laptop has two hard drives use the small ssd as a media cache. You can set this in the preferences, but you would basically not store anything on it and it would just be used for media to keep things running fast. It can come in very handy for media production, but prob wont have much benefit for netflix ect as they are not computer intensive tasks.

netflix/your browser uses RAM and your graphics card and streaming flash video at fullscreen definitely makes your computer work.

for sure. it used to stream videos seamlessly but the past few months it hasn't been able to handle it whatsoever.

yeah my macbook pro is a piece of shit. 2 years old and just running lightroom is really hard on it now. does anyone know if reinstalling my OS would fix this problem? should i take it into an apple store? even switching songs in itunes takes a moment, do macs really blow this hard?

I have no opinion yet besides that I don't like the tracking pad nearly as much as the Mac's. I keep accidentally resizing webpages. I've spent the past 1.5 hours trying to get used to it/customize it. Luckily Firefox imported all my preferences/bookmarks because Firefox is awesome. Now I just have to figure out how to get all my files and whatnot transferred over from the mac as well as how to get all the files off my external drive. Any ideas on that? I thought I had my external formatted for both mac and windows but it doesn't show up when i plug it into my new PC. If I do a "timeline" backup or whatever it's called on the Mac, is there a way to get that info onto a PC?

Also, any suggestions on what I should have on the PC (programs, apps, etc?) I haven't had a PC since Vista first came out.

Also, there's no Mute button, which is the most retarted oversight I've ever seen. It's super fast though and doesn't heat up to a bagillion degrees which is nice.

Your drives are probably formated macOX journaled. You can download a plug-in for windows i think it costs like $20 but its a one time fee that will allow you to view this type of drive. Search around on google and if you cant find it ill look for it later when im not busy.
