Best Laptop for College?

Well I was hoping for someone more serious such as a fanboy. You saying it just makes me laugh a bit.

Suprised to see that no one knows much about ASUS.. very good quality with a wide vereity of computers... check there website i just got one... intel i5 4gb ram 640 HD with nvidea 310 m 1 gb dedicated memory. for cheap

I have had my 15" macbook pro for over a year and a half now and it runs like the day I bought it. I have had no complaints, problems, anything. The only inconvenience is some of my architecture software only runs on windows, but I run xp through virtual box (like bootcamp) and it works out fine.
Granted macs are more expensive, but they are totally worth it. If you buy one now it will easily last you your 4 years of college, and probably even longer, whereas you might go through 3 HP or Dells before the end of your sophomore year.
Everyone I know who has a mac absolutely loves it and would never go back to a PC, myself included.

mostly because people only know asus for monitors or motherboards. But yes they do make quality stuff.

i got a mac and its the bomb-diggity. however you may need to bootcamp it and get windows on it. A lot of my courses use Microsoft Excel, and macs dont allow macros on excel for some stupid fucking reason with the VB code.
anyways id recommend a mac - you can always get windows on a mac by bootcamping it.
1.macs dont get viruses easily2.friendly usable interface3.durable (my macbook has been dropped countless times, the trackpad shattered and it still works decently.... and its been hit by a fucking gold club - theres an inch wide dent in the keyboard with a cracked P key- and it still works fine somehow.
also, every mac sold has a piece of steve jobs' flesh in the core of it

This.

Since they have always been known for their components, they are selling quality systems for cheap to get the name out there more.

I love my Sony Vaio, but I am biased, since I am an IT major

I have a Mac and love it because I can look at all the porn I want and not worry about viruses. If you plan on viewing porn get a mac. If you don't plan on viewing porn, then don't get a mac. Pretty simple.

Or not be completely retarded and learn to not google "big booty" then click on the first link. Viruses are pretty easy to avoid so I don't know why everyone freaks out about them.

Same here, except I had HP. Mac are really just nice. If you can afford the price tag you wont be disappointed!

also, since you're in college you can get a discount on the mac, you just need to have your student number and ID or a course schedule (proof that you are a student) I got my MacBook Pro 13" + ILife 09 for 1100 I think?

HP Pavilion dv6...refer to my previous post on the 1st page. Honestly i have never had problems with it at all. It a strong workhorse with solid modeling with the I5 processor too.

go with a Windows based system. They will run your programs much better, such as CAD, etc. They are the norm in the engineering field.

I have a toshiba satellite from bestbuy, it was about $500, with 4gb ram, 500gb harddrive, and an intel i3. I love it! i also love macs, but agree that they are horribly overpriced, though I will probably get one eventually. My one piece of advice: don't buy dells. They have a huge market share but I predict that will go down fast, as their production over the last few years has been sub par. My mom has a dell inspiron which she paid over $1000 for in 2008 which has worse specs than my toshiba (part of that is the time difference, however, it was still overpriced back then). They're very flimsy and she's had many problems with it(it deleted it's own sound drivers......how? I dunno)
So all in all, I say toshiba are where it's at for budget laptops, and know many others who agree (my brother for one, my Uncle who is a professional IT, and many others). However, I don't know much of HP's beyond my dad had one that he didn't love. There were no major problems, i just know that it was not his favorite laptop. So research up (yahoo answers is a wonderful place) and good luck finding your laptop!

I never google big booty and just click on the first one, although with a mac I could.

The porn I am into, well, I went through 3 desktops (Gateway, Compaq and Dell) in 5 years.

I've had my mac for 2 years, and nothing yet.

Seriously? I've had my Dell for 4 years and I finally just got my first virus, which I was able to figure out and fix in an hour.

I'm going to assume have to not have much computer knowledge or experience, because you have to be pretty careless to get infected if you have a simple antivirus/spyware/malware software running in the background.

If that's what you're into....

I'm not starting a mac vs pc debate, mainly because I don't know enough about them, nor do I care.

All I'm saying is, if you wanna watch lots of porn, get a mac. If not, consider a non-mac.

yeah i had one and i hated it. there was something wrong with it (their fault). spent 4 hours on the the phone with them. they replaced the hard drive then it crashed

Seriously yea, I mean they were all family computers too. I'm pretty sure my younger brother was wanking it too.

I would be typing an essay on the Compaq, and boom. Pop up of porn would pop up. It was weird when my mom was helping me with an essay and titties popped up, not because of boobs, but because I would ask my mom to leave so I could wank one out.

Seriously, Compaq sucked. The dell lasted the longest, 3 out of that 5 year span. So out of the 3, Dell over Compaq and Gateway from my experience

i got a macbook 4 years ago for 1000 dollars i treat it like ahit and it runs like a dream i cant see myslef replacing it in the near future either

you should get a mac, theyre pretty sweet. decent at everything, super easy to use, no viruses which youll love when one of your pc friends gets one during finals week. only downside is theyre expensive and not as good as pcs for shit like office and actual business

My previous recommendation was based on the fact that you have an HP discount. I've had one HP that now belongs to my brother and it admittedly has had some of the typical PC problems after about 2 years, both because of Vista but also because of the construction.
If you're looking for a PC I would peep Lenovo and Asus, I've also heard good things about specific Acer and Toshiba models.
Just find something with specs that you like, a solid construction (hold it in your hands) and Windows 7. I can't stress enough how much more efficient, safe and intuitive 7 is over Vista. I've been using it without a firewall or third party malware/AV program, only Microsoft Security Essentials and it runs like new still (crosses fingers). You have to be seriously, like SERIOUSLY, retarded to fuck up a Windows 7 computer with MSSE installed. And if you're still worried (re: ECB) just dual boot Linux or OSX and you can watch all the balls in the ass pron you want.
As a student I appreciate the relatively low costs of PCs compared to Macs of similar power. I won't rule out a Mac in my future, but I recently installed Linux and am liking it so I think I'm actually moving in the opposite direction from OSX.

Actually yes, I have.

The first balls deep video I saw the guy was still wearing his sneakers, which I oddly couldn't look away from.

Have you seen the subservient to my cock video?

It's on pornhub, just search "subservient" and listen to that audio!

I'll check it out when I'm not in the school library. There's also some really awesome ones on eFukt like bobble head orgasm or drowning in semen.

Although i am a mac enthusiast i will completely agree with this post, apple will charge you rape prices if you want to upgrade your computer through them, however if you are just looking for a solid computer for college you do not need to max out the cpu and graphics card. Other than that you can add ram and install a larger hard drive by yourself at a fraction of the price.

I'm in my school library right now too!

And I'm watching porn, on NS and typing my essay. I never get in trouble for watching porn in here haha

I have just found the laptop for you!!

click the link ..... www.stuff.co.nz/technology/gadgets/4877617/The-Lamborghini-inspired-laptop

Haha isn't that great!?

Funny story how I found that......My friends girlfriend was over one night, and I was just watching porn in our living room so she showed me that video! Great find!

like the dont buy a mac picture says, the upgrade ability of a mac is nothing. everyone who knows a tidbit about computers know how quickly a computer becomes obsolete, and if you buy something that you a. cant upgrade and b. is fucking expensive then c. your spending a shit ton of money to buy something that is good for a few years at best. not like it will shit out, but programs are running on higher end and to compete without buying a new setup you have to be able to upgrade

1. Buy refurbished MacPro chassis.2. Head to newegg.com for other hardware.3.??????4. PROFIT.

there's not point in buying a mac.

I know some of ya like them, but DO NOT buy a Toshiba Satellite, they are shit, and freshman year I had to repair and deal with 4 different friend's broken/crashed Satellites. Go HP for price. Drop $2500+ if you really want a fast-ass, high-rendering gaming laptop. Buy Mac though cause they pretty much rock. I ran BootCamp on my MB Pro 14" and AutoCad and it ran well. In fact the Macs run Windows better than a Windows computer, seriously! Won't crash on you hardly ever.

>Drop $2500+ if you really want a fast-ass, high-rendering gaming laptop.

shut up you know nothing

I have been around computers my whole life, both my parents are PHDs in computer science, i helped my dad build my first computer at 7 years old, build three or four since then (my current desktop is iller /claim)
and i've been through 4 windows laptops, 2 fujitsu, a dell and an HP. in december i bought my first apple computer, a 13 inch macbook pro, and i love it to death. completely worth it. first of all, the build and components are of a much higher grade than my previous computers, monitor, keyboard, trackpad, even the onboard camera/microphone.
but if you're paying over a grand for a laptop, it had better be good quality. what really makes it worth it is the OS. When it all comes down to it apple makes a much, much, much more convenient OS than microsoft does. coming from someone who knows windows backwards and forwards, mac runs better, and is nearly a million times easier to use.
It saves so much time/headache, and yeah, you pay a premium for the "apple" image, but time is money and the convenience is worth the extra few hundred

HAHAHAH. oh man you had me goin there. You must have been playing solitaire or something, cause that's about all you can do on a bootcamped Windows. Seriously. There's a reason why 100% of my friends with Macs in the business school with me had to go all the way to the library to do homework (Public PC's). When you're required to use Access, or even Excel, a dual-booted Windows on a Mac is teerriibbllee. Even using windows for browsing the internet, only a handful of people can do it smoothly on a Mac. But if your just browsing teh intewebz, might as well use safari or something.

Overall, dual booting windows on a Mac is NOT even close to the same as running it on a PC. Its absolutely terrible quality comparatively.
