Best laptop brands (not apple)

As long as you get one from a legit company (pretty much the same companies as desktops; dell, gateway, toshiba, ect.) it will be more about what's inside than which company it comes from. It's not like they use company specific parts.
 
i used to have an hp and it always worked fine. never any problems. now i have a viao which is a better computer per se but it doesnt run as smoothly. it is faster, smaller, and has better graphics and sound, but it crashes alot more often
 
i know my cousins have one. i forget which one its like macbook i think? and it is so amazing...i have been trying to convince my parents to get me one for my birthday. i use the comp a lot so it would be worth it too....
 
nothing against them i think mac's are great but this is going to be a computer for school mostly that i can bring to class and take notes with etc... i just may get a mac down the road but not today
 
i use my mac for taking notes in class. it's just as good as a regular laptop for that specific use. but i also use it for all my photoshop and illustrator to make myself not bored as hell in class.
 
Both a Mac and a PC would be fine for every day use. Get a Mac for sure if you're going into anything relatively artsy or graphics related and a PC for sure if you're going into anything with programming or business.
 
i would get a mac book pro, too bad theyre mad expensive. which is why ill prolly be getting a PC
 
Ya but a Mac cost a lot of $$$ for just every day use. I would say HP, Dell, and Gateway were my favorites. My uncle has a Sony he likes but I can't comment on it.
 
i was thinking of building a frankentop because i can make it rediculously powerful but i likely wont have the time to do something like that over the summer. ive built pc's before and it's not something you can do on and off
 
What kind? I got a crazy customized Toshiba Satellite.

I would DEFINITELY recommend a Toshiba, they are sooooo nice. Mine was kinda pricey (like 1600) but I upgraded it to a 512 mb Graphics Card, 2.5 GHz Duo Core Processor, Better Screen, Harmon/Kardon speakers, 2 GBs of RAM, DVD burner and a few other things I think. But ya, Toshibas are so legit, mine works Great.
 
i have a Toshiba Satellite. It was super cheep ( cause i gots the hookups at Future shop), and runs like a top. Umm, i would just get a new battery if you get one. The battery i have now only runs 3 hours max.

if not, look at ebay for a cheap year old laptop for like 300$. Get xp not vista. vista right now is shit.

 
Never buy the first year of anything, including vehicles. Remember when the plastic was melting like crazy on the Chevy's?
 
^but apple is a way legit company. even if something was messed up. you know theyd replace it i mean look at the ipods. i think the macbook is the way to go, its so small too.
 
Nah, actually, they are kinda assholes with warrenties. protect your ipod or macbook with your life. I have a macbook pro that my dad droped a few weeks ago. it was a little dented but was working fine. a few weeks later, the monitor died. we took it to apple but they said it didn't fall under warrenty and that a monitor costs a grand(pretty much every laptop monitor is worth a grand to fix). We took it to a 3rd party apple certified fixer and they got the part and fixed it under warrenty. See if there are apple certified fixers around you to fix your apple if the mac store turns you away. all in all. its the fucking best laptop you can get. also, it supports xp and vista if you need it to.
 
Dell, Toshiba, Sony, and Alienware are some solid choices. When I get my college laptop this summer it'll probably be a Dell.

For less than $1000 a Dell Inspiron E1505 notebook can be customized to have:

-Windows Vista Premium

-Dual Core Processor

-1 gigabyte of RAM

-120 gigabyte Hard Drive

-CD/DVD burner

-256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7300 TurboCache video card

That would making a solid laptop for both school needs and gaming.
 
I would stay away from Dell's personally, they are ok but they are kinda weak. Seriously check out HP/Toshiba/Sony or Mac
 
doesn't apple only let you have so many consumer calls before they start charging you. i remember with my ipod when i called tech support they reminded me that was my only call until i paid for some bs thing
 
you really think some college freshman who doesn't know a lot about computers (no offense!) is going to partition his hard drive and install a windows operating system on it? I doubt it.

If you want a computer that you will be doing alot of business like stuff on it, spreadsheets, office documents, etc then get a PC. They are much more business oriented and easy to use.

If you want a computer that has good video/audio editing capabilities as well as excellent graphic design, go with a Mac.

Thats about as simple as you can break it down.
 
i'm not saying it isn't simple. but even running software and not knowing excactly what is going on is always risky Especially if its partitioning the hard drive. I'm just saying, it can be risky.
 
My friends a really big jew and just bought a new laptop for college, HP is by far the best value for kick ass laptops, plus pharrel uses it so it has to be legit.
 
out dated in 2 years is kind of an over statement.. it'll be out dated if your using it for gaming... how many people use a laptop for gaming? not many, this laptop would last you ovver 2 years if you properly maintain it... it'll last longer than some versions of windows...
