Who do you think is the best guitarist ever?

Right now I have a battle between Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page.

what do you mean by GOOD? Technically? Musically? Hendrix sucked. There are better guitarist and musicans than Hendrix.

this is an very difficult thing for me to get into, there are so many good guitarists but only a few in my mind reached the plateau of complete rockitude and they are as follows:

Hendrix, Page, Allen collins, Pink Floyd's, Angus young, van halen, and trey anastacio. Each one of them is absurd in their own respects, but if their were to be a winner, it would have to go to hendrix. after all he did light his guitar on fire and play it with his teeth.

alright, everyone who has answered hendrix is pretty non-intelligent when it comes to guitarists. Sure, Hendrix revolutionized the playing of a guitar, but not in any way did he perfect it. It's just stuck in everyones head that 'oh hendrix is the best guitarist'. Even if you ask someone who dosen't even listen to rock, they will probably reply with 'Hendrix'. My pic, on the other hand, is Robin Trower. He's not as fast at shredding like most guitarists, but he has got unbelievable style. Download some of his music and you will understand.

ECTom, if that's the way you want to go with it, then i don't see how you can overlook Knopfler. Trower is just obscure, he doesn't have any more going for him style or skill-wise, and because of a lack of scope, ends up having less. Just not prolific enough.

well to back Derek up, yes Hendrix. One of the best at improvisation too, along with his style and sound (very original, especially at the time). Also, because of all the boundaries he pushed.
