clapton hands down, hendrix just fucked around and to a group of acid loving hippies it sounded like the most mindblowing music in the world but really when you listen to it, his guitar is pretty good but his voice sucks. clapton is the best.

Im RICK JAMES bitch

please be joking.

oh, and of course zakk wylde was a great performer and randy rhoads is pretty tech.

van halen's gotta be up there aswell, i mean, i practically invented finger picking. it was his way of making the guitar 'talk', so to speak, and depict his emotions.. after that, everybody started doing it.

he was tapping, not finger picking. finger picking has been the primary mode of playing since the guitar was invented, and has been used by flamenco, spanish, celtic, and classical players for a very long time. and to the person above your post, victor wooten plays bass, not guitar, but he is an amazing bass player

i hope his[mike jones] tour bus breaks down in the warped tour parking lot and 1000 emo kids stab him and cry about it.

Yeah erm... I think you meant finger tapping? Honest mistake.

Anyways my personal vote for favourite goes to Jimmy Page (I'm so original), but I really like Steve Howe (anyone know who he is?). As it has been said time and time again, there is no "best" guitarist ever.

I like alcohol and chicks. And ski. That's pretty much it about me.

aha yeah, of course. honest mistake indeed.

how many threads do we have to make like this, im sure there will be more in the future, but there is no such thing as a best guitarist, every one has their own unique style and sound and are good because they play how they think guitar playing should be interpreted, they are all very good in their own ways.

SHUT THE FUCK UP MAN, one, hendrix was renowned for his singing in the beggining of his days, and if youve ever seen any jimi hendrix video you know why clapton cried so much while he was around, doesnt matter who you are, and i can testify to this, you see hendrix perform live, you stop and say DAMN! like token black guy damn, i was playing live at berkley once at a party, people were occupied with other shit, but fuck me if everyone in that party didnt at least stop and watch that shit for a minute or ten if not stop and ask me a thousand questions about the shit, and second bitch, quoting pete townshend (the who, for the bunch of kids im sure havent heard of his name) 'hendrix was bigger than acid, hed make you come out of the trip' and it wasnt just the crazy antics, it was the way the guitar howled, hollared, moaned, screamed, and wailed

Fuck You

^agreed, hendrix's voice is quite amazing. Best guitarist ever for sure. Jimmy Paige is awesome too.

Knopfler. Still Knopfler.

~~Phunkin Phatt Phreerider~~

"Most guys know that women dig guys with money. Would Donald Trump be fucking models if he wasn't rich? That question is rhetorical. Now I don't even believe this is wrong, I think it is just nature. But I also think women who are this way (and it is almost all of you) should be honest and admit that they are basically whores, and stop saying bad things about the so-called "actual whores" who are just trying to earn an honest living."

What the fuck do vocals have to do a thread about the best guitarist? Also: the fact that his music still inspires people, i.fucking.e., people who aren't hippies, invalidates your point.

mars volta is a good ban saw them in toronto at kool haus. i think its just his ability to make jams what makes him good. the concert was 3 hours long or something and they only played 4 songs, the rest just stoned style jamming.

however as said before by 3 other people including myself. slash is definatley one of the best as well if you don't believe listen to his solo on November Rain at 6:45 mark in the song
