well my macbook's internal disc is completely full, so now im in the market for an external drive...any recommendations? Im actually thinking about getting one with a terabyte of memory...i can get one for like $250 and then ill never run out of space, but im not sure if there is a drive that is really good quality over others.

If you are going to be taking this drive with you a lot, it will probably pay to invest in something that can take a fair amount of hard use. I have a Lacie Rugged hard drive and it has stood up to quite a bit of drops and other wear and tear. I think it's a little more expensive compared to similar sizes of other brands but in my opinion its definitely worth it.

I recommend getting a multiple interface hard drive. Transfering dozens of gigs on a USB 2.0 drive is long and...long. Plus if you want to do some video or photo or whatever editing directly on the external hard drive you're not going to be able to do it with a usb drive. Firewire is the way to go, especially since all macs have at least 1 port.
I have a Western Digital MyBook Home edition (1TB) (firewire 400-usb) that I got for around 350$, and a LaCie Little Disk (250gb) (firewire400-usb) that I got for 200$.

Honestly, I'd recommend either LaCie or Western Digital. Both are great and reliable.

I have a western digital passport. It works very well with my mbp and is very small . The only problem is that you can only get it up to 320 GB. But if you need portability I would definitely consider getting it.

G-Tech.

I've got a G-Drive Q, mine is 500GB, but you can get up to 1TB...and up to a 32MB cache, which is awesome.

another vote for western digital. i have a passport and two mybooks and they've done well for me. make sure you format it for mac though. PM me if you need instructions.

I just got one of these. It's the more expensive version ("elite," I think) and has a Firewire 400 port. I wanted something portable , and, while there were cheaper ones out there, this is the only portable external with the firewire port. At least that I saw. I would have liked to have had a firewire 800 but I don't think they make them on portables.

Hmm...does the G-Drive Q require a power cord? Also, how big is it? Looks pretty nice if it's not huge. Is it available in stores?

Wow, I feel retarded...

My G-Drive Q does require AC power...I meant to link you here:

That one doesn't require any outside power, it is bus powered (FW or USB), and up to 500GB capacity, although USB might not power it then, you'd need firewire.

Awesome drive.

If you're really wanting something sick though, you could grab the G-Raid, up to 640GB capacity...put that in Raid-0 and you'd have a set set-up.

I'm not sure which stores carry them, you'd have to call around locally or shop online, I've never had a problem with mine, and it comes pre-formatted for Mac.
