Vignette makes for some sweet looking video if you turn down the blur. Its under effects/stylize. And bad tv can be cool if used properly.

so anyone. favorite effects to use in your edits? and also where/what are some good torrents/plugins

Personally, I hate the way Final Cuts Vignette looks, so to make mine I use the 4-Point Garbage matte filter

You just set your four points in each corner, turn up the "roundness" (forget what the setting is called) and then feather it all the way.

Try it its a really cool result, and if it is too dark in the corners you can just keep moving each point back.
