Best editing software for PC not Mac ?

I've seen some great edits on here ( and some not so great ) and certainly going to take some video this year. Just curious if there is a main software that is good for editing go pro footage or if it is more just personal preference. Thanks for shedding any light on this, and apologies if this shoud be in "gear talk" I wasn't sure.
 
I've heard of a lot of people use Sony Vegas or what ever Sony has now for editing software. I use it now and it's pretty good. I'm not that good at editing as I haven't had the time since buying it to get better but I have seen some good edits come from it. Hope that helps
 
I have used both Vegas and Adobe premiere pro and I much prefer premiere, it totally kicks Vegas' ass.
 
yeah dude i dont know why people are saying vegas 10. if you want something easy, and decent, get that. but if you dont care how long it takes to learn, get premiere cs5. once you know that for a good amount of time you could go to avid, but its very difficult to use. i would go with premiere.
