Schwitzer, there is so much discussion ab0ut Barker because you mentioned him first in the original post - 'Travis Barker doesn't count'. When you said this, you suggested that he is not a good drummer. Face it, he IS good. NO ONE has said they think he is the best, but he is good.

 
I know it sounds gay, but Carter Bowford (probably wrong spelling) who is the Dave Mathiew's band drummer.

I HATE the band, but the drummer is insane. He's won drummer of the year many times, and I saw him play live once and it was fucking crazy.

Jazz/fusion/pop kind of thing he does. Epic.

Apparently, I'm the most sold out person in history.

Whos the drummer from Dave Matthews Band? Hes amazing. I dont really know many other drummers though.

isnt barker form blink 182. i dont know, because i dont listen to them. he isnt that great. i think the two best are the guy from dave matthews and danny carrey from tool are the best. just look at their drum sets. they have 25 + piece sets and both have a freakin gong. that is just nuts. anyone who has 20 + pieces has to be really good.

drisky, in this case the equipment does matter. anyone can play a 4 piece set. take brad wilk of rage against the machine. he has a 5 piece set most of the time because that is all he needed. he plays it well, but it definately takes more skill to play a 25 piece set well than it does to play a 5 piece set. I am saying that by having the larger set it makes the drumming more dynamic, which in my case makes me think that it is better and more creative. if you have not heard any on danny's drumming i would reccomend a listen because he is absolutely nuts. i am not saying that by having a gigantic set this automatically makes you good, but it definately takes a lot of skill. i am not trying to say that this is the only factor that makes you good. for instance the foo fighters drummer is amazing too, and he has a medium sized set.

in conclusion i did not mean to make it sound like the size of the set is the only thing that matters, but i think it is an important factor. i think there are plenty of good drummers that have smaller sets, but it is just a matter of style and taste.

Neil Peart's got skills for sure, the best drummers are jazz drummers. It's so fucking hard to play some of that shit with all the time changes. u gotta be totally ambidexterous to play that shit.

having a bigger set does make you're drumming SLIGHTLY more dynamic, but has nothing to do with creativity and once again has nothing to do with skill. If you know anything about drums then you know these drummers prolly just have different crashes and extra toms. it takes no more skill to play a set with 3 toms and 2 crashes than it does to play with 6 toms and 10 crashes. the only extra piece a drummer can add to make it harder is a double bass drum or double bass peddle.

^it's true. buddy rich had a single pedal bass drum. he was a beast. and he only had 2 toms, typical for a jazz set. but he was amazing. simply amazing. same with krupa. and their solos were unbelievable. yes there may be more dynamics with more drums and cymbals, but my god, buddy rich.

Whoever said it takes more skill to play a bigger drumset is an idiot. A better drummer can make ANY set sound good. be it a 25 piece set or a 3 piece set sound amazing. That doesn't mean drummers with big sets are good or bad, but you cant say it takes more skill to play a big set, because sounding good is what matters, and good drummers can do that on any set.

apparently no one read my second post where i clarified myself. all i said is that it made the music more dynamic and creative with a larger set. i said that it is just a matter of style.

anyway, this thread is just an opinion, and i tried to justify mine, but if you dont agree with me, then so be it. all the drummers listed here are nuts, so it would be tough to choose just one.
