Anyone know what brand of digital camera is has been rated highest in the past. Im looking for something around 5 megapixels. Like Olympus, Canon, Nikon, Sony. ect?

I'm assuming since you named Sony, you don't want a D/SLR. The Canon Powershot series is pretty cool, but also look at the Minolta DiMage A2. I think it is 8 megapixels, it is the best I have seen. The Nikon Coolpix series (5700 and 8700) are also pretty nice. But if you wanted a D/SLR, there is are way more options...I suggest picking up a magazine that specializes in whatever cameras you are interested in...and researching on the internet

Ive been looking around. I'd like A DSRL but they are expensive. Most are about twice as much as the common cost of a 5 MP. And 8 MP technology it kinda new so its expensive too.

Yeah, I would say just look around and learn as much as possible...you will hate yourself if you buy a camera that you don't like or doesn't suit your needs. And also, megapixels aren't everything in digital cameras...look at number of shooting modes, lens options, lens quality, metering charts, white balance options, ISO range, etc. There is so much to learn and the cameras are so different in little nuances...just do your reasearch

Can anyone help me with this question? I'm looking to get a new lens for my A80 (I know i have to get a converter), but where would i find a much larger lens? What would i be looking for if i wanted a larger lens (ie magnification and such)?

well, if you go with a D/SLR, I went with the Nikon D70 over the Canon Digital Rebel, it just seemed to way out perform the Canon, and I was extremely interested in its ability to shoot a pretty fast sequence rate. But they are definatley not cheap.

Yeah, D70 for sure if you have the cash, or even a D100 since prices are falling. I'm selling my GL1 for a D70.

I would agree that the D70 performs better than the Digital Rebel, but neither have the ablilty to shoot fast enough sequences at high res for sports/action purposes. If you wanted something to shoot sequences, you would want a Nikon D2H or a Canon Mark II (when they are available and the firmware issue has been resolved). Those are the only two D/SLR cameras that can shoot sequences at a high rate (8 fps or higher). I like canon glass a lot better, their autofocus is faster, but that is my opinion

i say get a digital slr b/c you can get diffrent lens. also if you ever upgrade your body then you will still have lens(also if u get a film camera body you can use the same lens.).but im still a fan of film over digital.

I actually believe the D70 outperformed the D100 (although I think D100 was a little higher res). One of the things that sold me on the D70 was an independant test that tested the sequence rate in a 20 second burst, the Digital Rebel shot 23 pics, and the D70 shot 44. The fastest burst rate for the Canon was 3 fps for 5 frames I think, then dropped to 1.05 fps, where the D70 hit 5 fps for 17 shots befroe dropping to around 2 fps for the remaining time (its been a while so my numbers might be a little off).

Basically all the research I did put the D70 as the best bet without getting into multi-thousand dollar cameras.

what do you plan on using you digital camera for??

You mean the Sony Cybershot T1? It is a super cool little point and shoot digicam. 5 Megapixels, big screen, a few shooting modes...nothing professional, but I have seen one, they are pretty cool

Also the Sony F717 is a very good camera.

Very very good.
