Best Covered songs

I know, i hate 99% of covers as well. But there are still some covered songs which not only pay homage to its creators(something that is really missing in todays covers), sometimes it is just another version by 1 of its creators. Sometimes it may even take a completely different turn, but still respecting the original. Here are my top 5

5. The Man Who Sold the World: Cover-Nirvana, original-David Bowie. Cobains grit, cynicism and melancholly puts this song over bowies, which is exactly what the song is about. The erie sense of hopelessness in Cobains voice puts it away, and is one of Bowies and Nirvanas best songs. From glam to grunge, this song is perfected.

4. Live and Let Die: Cover-Guns & Roses, Original-Wings. Guns and Roses turns Mccartney's supposed-to-be-hard song into something that even the legend couldnt do. This song, Axels voice, and the seemingly flawless Slash create something that is simply epic.

3. All Along the Watchtower: Cover-Jimmi Hendrix, Original-Bob Dylan. Sorry Zimmerman, but with the best distortions of its time, Hendrix simply outdeuls you in this song.

2. Helter Skelter: Cover-Oasis Original-Beatles. Dont get me wrong, the original Helter Skelter is a very good song, and has a tonne of history behind it, but when it comes down to it, which one would i rather listen to, its Oasis.

1. Dazed and Confused: Cover-Led Zeppelin, Original-Yardbirds. Page was in both bands, but this is still a cover. The original version is still very good, but the newer takes full advantage of distortions, and a better overall band with a bigger part for page.

um i dont mind most covers, some bands do them better than others, but if you think about it the dead did a lot of covers, and a lot of them became famous because of the dead.

I know theyre not as serious or even respectful to the originals, but im a fan of punk covers. Theyre just more fun i think. I like...

wild world- covered by me first and the gimme gimmes

anyway you want it- covered by rise against

and mad world- covered by evergreen terrace

And let me just say that one thing i really hate about covers is when a band does one and just makes it sound exactly like the original, to me its not a cover unless u put ur own touch on it.

I ski at the crappiest hill ever...

sooo many bands do covers, its not a big deal, so for this kid to say that he hates 99% of covers is basically bullshit, becuase many many songs are covers and he probably doesnt even know it.

dude, music is my minor. I know what i'm talkin about, and no, most of music is not covers, what a dumb thing to say. On the average album nowadays, less than 1 song is a cover, and take about 13 songs on the average album(not mix, or best of), only about 2-3 on average, singles will be released. So do the math, there are still a lot of covers, but not nearly as much as you may think. Covers do not include remixes, or samples of songs used for spinning(rap).

I heard jack johnson sing badfish at his concert in reno it was pretty awesome. Johnny Cash singing hurt was way better than NIN

i think the beatles version of while my guitar gently weeps is better. i don't know who covered it but it's in that ski movies preview clip. i think the song is tom sawyer, originally by rush.

fat people should avoid buffets

No quarter: Cover: Tool

Original: Led Zepp

Tool does a MUCH better job, the vocals, guitars, pretty much everything about the song is amazing... Really good.

I am the Walrus: Cover: Grey Matter

Original: The Beatles

Used in the 1st Sorry video, this is a really good version of an amazing song. Although I dont think it's better that the Beatle's version, its very good.

has anyone heard of dub side of the moon? it's a reggae cover of dark side of the moon by the east star all stars

i don't want this to get out too far but i heard ninthward has sex with armada-Twix_182

Personally, I think all too often cover songs ruin the original meaning but there are some bands that do a good job with em. Some bands I find are better than others with covers, Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies do a great job, as do Evergreen Terrace.

I'd say my top covers:

Anything by MF&TGG

Sunday Bloody Sunday - Evergreen Terrace

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Tori Amos

life is too short to have any regrets

all of mine have been said

i really like mrs robinson by the lemonheads. most punk covers are pretty sweet.
