Best Country

id wait untill youre out of highschool at least, i know now i personally wouldnt have enjoyed/appreciated a semester abroad as much as in college or after college

I went to Gothenburg, Sweden this summer with my sister for a couple of weeks. Sweden is the place to be and I highly recommend visiting it.

I did a semester in norway during my jr year. i loved it.

i wasnt located in the best part of the country but it was where the best soccer team was. norway is not a large country so it was easy enough to get to the cool parts of the country. europe for that matter is not large.

go for it, you will not regret it. anywhere in the world experiencing another culture is amazing.

I would love to do a semester in Sweden

* i have actually been there, im not one of those jerkoffs that has Swedens dick so far down their throat having never been there.

dont do spain, I've heard bad things. I always thought doing a program abroad to finland or new zealand would be fun

This is great, I'm curently working with my guidance counselor to do a semester next year (my junior year of highschool) but I'm still deciding where to go. It'd be great to hear from some people that have done it before.

Spain will give you an interesting culture perspective, given it's combination of European, and Moorish influences. Also a unique blend of ideas, not found as much in the rest of Europe.

South Africa, if you want to understand something both completely different, and very similar to the United States. We are almost 20 years from the end of Apartheid, which allows you to see the remains of some of the strongest forced segregation in the second half of the 20th century. You are also able to go from a first world environment to a third world landscape in about 5 minutes. Eye opening.

Australia. The Roo's are awesome. Plus you will get laid, since all the Aussi's treat their girls like shit, so they will fall for you once they realize you don't refer to them as cunts on a regular basis.

north korea!

Go to Lichtenstein, lowest debt in the world, right in the Alps, uncontrolled border crossing with Switzerland. I do wan't to make it to that country some time in my life.

Yes. I too have a friend from there. I figured I would be specific and name the city because I have only ever been there, and not much into the rest of the country. It is seriously an AMAZING place to be. More so than London, and I though London was pretty impressive as well.

thats what i thought this thread was about.. but its alan jackson, toby keith, rodney atkins, and brad paisley

Well it depends on what you want to experience that year. If you want to have an easy time in school then USA is probably your best bet...

But I expect you are an American, and if that´s the case you probably shouldn´t do a foreign exchange year. My cousin spent a year studying in America and he said it was incredibly easy, then he came home and had a really hard time in school...

I'm currently doing my senior year abroad in Germany. If you want, you can ask me, or anybody who has previously done an exchange, because we probably contain the best advice.

Also: Try to go to a country that you have language experience in, or get some experience before going in, it will really help.

I've heard amazing things about Brazil, everyone that is an exchange student in Hessen (The state I'm living in) is like, holy fuck this is amazing!! Love every minute, while brazilians are like "meh" and I've heard of Brazilians wishing they could go to Brazil haha.

Anyhow like someone said before, any country, any culture is an experience, if you can do it, do it. I personally like Europe, had German experience, and like the culture came here. Not the super party life, but drunk pretty often and out on the weekends, besides that school really is big part of the week, its not like people are going out after school all day, average day is going home after school, relaxing, studying.

Overall I'm enjoying my year so far, and would recommend an exchange in its entirety, and that Germany is a great place to go as well.

My friends did school year abroad there and some of the girls almost got raped. Also they had to run from the cops multiple times because the cops have essentially no rules. The country is also in terrible economic shape so the buildings and infrastructure are pretty bad. But there are some nice parts of spain

Back in High School, all the exchange students took one less class than the rest of us, often took an easier math course, and were held to lower standards for the rest of their classes. Not saying it was the same for your friend, but Ican imagine why they thought it was easy.

I just did a gap year abroad in Germany and it was super tight, basically what the dude above said. However, the skiing in Germany is concentrated in the very deep south. If you want ro be right un the Alps, I would recommend Switzerland or Austria.

By the way, are you intending to learn the language, and if so, in what languages do you have experience in?

I studied in Moscow, Russia. If you want to see something crazy every day, go there, you won't regret it. Plus the drinking age is like 12 so you'll be good. And make sure you have like $300 converted to rubles every time you go to Night Flight, that's how much the escorts cost, but they are worth it, some of their faces are like 8's but the bodies are legit 10's. Also, they will make you wear a condom, which is actually good they are so persistent about it, meaning they probably don't have anything. The cover charge to get in to view the girls is quite steep, but any major hotel will have brochures with a free cover coupon on it. You can't wear shorts or cut offs, but you don't have to wear a suit and tie.

If I ever pay $300 for sex, it will be to the gal I am going to marry, and cover the cost of a nice bottle of wine, and two ribeyes, at a classy as fuck resturant.
