Best colleges for Surfing and Skiing

Starting to look at colleges and really would like a college where I can ski and surf (I live in portland so I do both almost every weekend). Im a decent student (3.6 gpa, 1160 on sat) I was thinking UCSB might be my best bet but any other suggestions would be great.

California school is probably your best bet unless you go to east coast and willing to commute a distance to ski. You can also check out Oregon State as you're only about fifty minutes from the coast and two and half from skiing. Same goes with UofO.

Yeah, those are my fallback schools, but I would really like to get out of state

USC for sure if you can get in. The ski/snowboard club there makes trip fairly often, and there's half decent parks within two hours, and mammoth is six. surf is super close

not sure what schools are there, but san fran has decent surfing around it and is 2 and a half hours from tahoe

Poly is cool but is about 3 and a half hours away from closest resort and it's not a very nice resort. You would have to drive about 7 hours to mammoth or Tahoe. I grew up in slo and I can confidently say that it is not a town filled with skiers. But you would be able to surf quite a bit. Also Point loma Nazarene university in San Diego is about 30 steps from a break and about 2 hours from Bear mountain.

It was my first attempt with out any prep so hopefully I can get it up

What scale is that on?

I got a 2010 first try no prep out of 2400. Didn't satisfy UCSB's foreign language requirement though and I didn't want to go anywhere else in Ca so I'm going to CU Boulder and just gonna surf during breaks with dudes from Cali I'll meet there, and then at my house on cape cod in the summer

you need to get your sat up or u won't get in to any UC's

an 1160's way too low to get into any uc's usc, ucsb is middle tier/upper tier UC which makes it even tougher.

average SAT to get into SB last year was a 1926, and the bottom 25th percentile of people who got in had an average of a 1700... you need to practice for it if you're getting an 1160/2400

The GPA is fine, write a good essay and you should be chill.

also davis is a decent bet, like 2 hours from tahoe or 2-3 hours from santa cruz/sf

oh i thought he had a 1160/1600. if its a 1160/2400 then OP might need to rethink his options.

No, I think you were right. Last year it was out of 2400 but I'm pretty sure they changed it for those who are Juniors on high school this year. 1160/1600 still isn't going to help him much for any difficult schools though.

oh no you might be right, I think the changes came into effect this year not next year. whoops. Then maybe it's okay but you still need to raise it

either way it doesnt really matter, colleges will still see ur first score...

what? dude there's a huge difference if he means he took the sat that was 1600instead of the sat that was out of 2400.... they changed the way the SAT worked and an 1160/1600 is definitely a lot better than a 1160/2400

Yes, the redesigned SAT is out of 1600

1160 is in the 86th percentile

I plan on getting it up though
