I'd either say UBC or Western Washington University...they're both close to Mt. Baker and Whistler.

No one should go to school in BC, we don't need more people crowding our slopes. Stay the fuck out. Go to Alberta, Utah, or Colorado.

yeah stay away from utah. Shitty ass icey snow, mormons knocking your door down. Alcohol is illegal and the girls are ugly.

God is an American.

same for the east...oh wait..the skiing sucks anyways, so it doesnt matter...

truthfully, there arent really any great schools that you can go to and go skiing, but if you dont mind mediocracy then there are lots of community colleges to attend like CMC

there are some colleges are closer to skiing then other but the truth of the matter is if you plan to do even decent in school and still have time to party will not be able to go skiing all the time. if you can get up more then two times a week then that is pretty good. it is stupid to pick your college because how close it is to skiing. you should check out how youu like the city the school is in and how good the school is for your major.

Alcohol the cause and solution to all lifes problems.

there was also a good thread about this before, you might want to reserect that.

Mountaineering is fun too.

If you want to goto school and actually be able to do something with your life afterwards, Colorado School of Mines is the only option... only two to four days a week isn't bad while preparing for a career that'll make you $100G a year... Hells yeah engineers

My shop is better than yours - Jibij, Boulder, CO

I copied this from a compellation of earlier threads for my own research...

Bishops is within 30 minutes of 5 or 6 little hills and 45 minutes away from Jay Peak. Also, the drinking age is 18, which can be considered a plus. Also, from what people have told me they set up a rail course on their golf course in the winter for people to session.

SFU is in Burnaby, not Vancouver, but from SFU to Whistler is all highway, no city driving, so you're going quickly the whole way. It can be a BITCH to get through downtown and out to the mountains from UBC at some points in the day, so I guess the question is, what time do you plan to ski? Either way, it's not really that long a drive.

Yeah, Montana State University, u got bridger bowl and big sky close.

Montana State University. Bridger Bowl is 20 minutes from campus, Big Sky is about 45 minutes to an hour. Easier access to ski areas than if you live in the big city.

University of British Colombia

yeah UBC is good but it can be really demanding, when I went there for two years I never went to class and did nothing but ski at Whis and the shitty ass local mountains which ultimately led to me flunking out, now I'm at a shitty college in Victoria, well done me

ubc is not that close to whis, but the night skiing at grouse and seymour are sick too..

I was doing the same as you last year and I ended up deciding to go to UBC. You do wanna go somewhere close to mountains so you can ride right after classes, but if you are looking to go to a good school (which is sounds like you are), you will actually have to do some work to stay there and probably won't be able to ride everyday after classes. For me I decided on somewhere with good riding for weekends even if a it is a bit of a drive and a good education. As much as you probably don't want to, keep the education in mind.

Check out UBC, gorgeous campus, Whistler is hour and a half to two hours away and you've got two mountains that I think are 30-45 minutes away.

the U of U. Its 30 minutes from Park City, Canyons, Deer Valley, Alta, Brighton, Snowbird and Solitude. Powder Mountain is close too, but I've never been there, so I cant really say. Plus there is tons of urban around here.

university of utah hands down. I'm not even going to try and convinse you. if you can't figure it out for yourself then you don't really want to ski at school.

hahaha the reason why the UofU rocks!!! An hour? Try like 20 minutes

Look I looked at schools based on location to skiing. that was 5 years ago. I looked at every school in colorado, u of montana, NAU, UNR, U of U, wyoming, everything. I came to utah cause it was the best school if I wanted to ski, be around a city that isn't too big, close to an international airport, it is 3 hrs to moab which has this sickest camping, jackson, most colorado resorts, vegas, big sky, are all within 6 hrs. la is 10 tahoe is about 9 mammoth is 8 or 9. hell it is right in the heart of everything. and it has the best skiing anywhere. oh and have you seen that ALTA is building a park. just go to the University of Utah.

University of Utah! There is no better, there is like seven ski resorts all less then an hour away! You have the Wasatch backcountry which includes Pyramid and Chads, Wolverine, and shit loads of anything you want! Alta inbounds is out of control, and its snow like 500 inches a year! Don't worry about the mormons, you won't even notice them, sweet parties, and the campus is killer! UofU wins best skiing college!

UoU, fulltime youll pay less than 10'g tution housing is plentiful and cheap. 7 resorts within 30 minutes (alta, snowbird, brighton, solitude.park city, deer valley, canyons)Decent nightlife, pretty good school, tons of outdoor recreation. vegas 4 hours away. Not to shabby around here

Western Washington University- It's in Bellingham, WA, just under an hour away from Mt. Baker which gets dumped on, a couple hours away from Whistler B.C., oh and speaking of B.C. its about 25 minutes away from the border for all of you 19 year olds without fake ID's...it's a rad campus, I absolutely love it there, so much to do.

i like Western Washington Univ. in Bellingham: 1 hour from Baker 2.5 from stevens 2.5 from Snoqualmie 3 from Whistler 1 hour from Grouse/Seymour

You are definitely right on wanting to go out west, its so much better out in the west. I grew up in Connecticut and went to school in Boulder and its just amazing out there. Everything is different, and if your a real active person, than boulder is a good place to start. Almost everyone is reaaal into a sport, (mtn biking, road biking, climbing, skiing, list goes on...) and its a real fun place to be to. You juts gotta find where you fit in. I went cuz the engineering program is rated really well in the country, top 25 i think, maybe top 20.

i'm suprised that noone has mentioned champlain college in burlington. smaller than UVM, it's a really nice place. beautiful campus, they're building even more stuff..... it's on the top of my list when i start applying to colleges in the fall...... check it out. and burlington is acutally close to Jay peak, i think it took me a little less than an hour to get there......

the colorado mountain college looks pretty ill, you can do hella skiing, and they actually have majors in ski resort managemnet and shit, and you have the choice to take less classes in the ski season and more in the off season...also they have other majors...but it looks tite

university of calgary: within 3 hours you have

COP

i'm also thinking of university of utah. every single person i tell that too asks me if i'm mormon. now i have nothing against mormons but does anyone know the figures on like percentage of mormons there so i can throw that in their faces from now on?

-hannah

my number 1 school and my reach school is UBC, and my second choice is boulder. and my back up school that i know no matter what i will get into is utah, but i want to goto a party school so utah might suck for that but hey its my back up plan

And it makes me see, every puff that I breathe, potent herbs and leaves could ease the world . . .

montana state is close to some good hills. and i think UM is too.

'So Schweitzer eh? The mountain on the Lake'

'Where's the lake?'

Utah blows seriously I dont know why everyone is so stoked on it, I transfered after one year. Its so much bullshit there. Id rather go to a laid back school that has good skiing like colorado or somewhere in canada. Far far away from mormon bullshit.

okay well then, give me your opinion on uc boulder. it's huge, and it kind of scares me how big of school it is.

-hannah

U of U is 30,000 kids...if thats not big I dont know what is. I think that CU is actually smaller than U of u.

whoever was talking about the University of the cariboo college 'Cariboo U' in kamloops, well i go there and to my knowledge i know of no lift 500 steps away i would be very happy if there was one though, Sun Peaks is about 45 min away and its a decent hill its big but with nothing to challenging and the park needs more work
