Best Car For Skiing?

yeah, i really wanna get like a small RV when im older (im only 16) cus then i can go on dope road trips with a bunch of friends and not have to pay for hotels and stuff.

Of course I would also need a more practical car, but that's besides the point.

The CJ was produced for a long time. The different number after it does not reflect the components like the new JK does (Sahara, Rubicon, and X). The number is simply just the model name. I do believe.

The tranny in manual Cherokees suck. Hard to find parts for, and the auto is stronger as well

There is only one real true off-road jeep in their new line-up. The JK. 2 or 4 door, still same truck, the 4 door just has a little longer wheelbase. Actually, my parents just bought a new Liberty, and although it is a Jeep, it will see more pavement than dirt, and might I add, it's fuckin' nice, lol. Most of Jeeps vehicles aren't real off-road vehicles though. Mind you, ever since they added an SUV to their line-up (the Cherokee), there has only been one real true off-road vehicle, but the cherokee is kick ass if modded properly, and also goes pretty good in the bush stock. And the Compass is gross. Even if it is a Jeep, I hate it.

Your buddy is kinda a little stupid (no offence) for putting a supercharger on the 4 banger in the YJ. The 4 bangers in Jeeps were/are shit. It is no better on gas, and, less torque (biggie for wheelin) and less HP. My personal opinion, I would have just bought another YJ with the 4.0L. And even if he supercharged the 4.0L I6, by the time he's done with it, it would have cost the same to just drop in a small block.

One more thing, is the ARB locker for the front or rear? Is it the ARB air locker? If so, get it if it is for the front, it's always great to have a selectable locker in the front (one is in my future too), but, if it is going in the rear, don't get it. Get a Detroit Locker. Much stronger for the rear end sinch that's where most of your power is going.

And, since I've moved out and going to College now, my Dad has a bit more money he can spend, he's looking at buying a jeep specifically for wheelin'. I'm so stoked if he does, ooo I can't wait!

I'm glad you don't hate Jeeps, if you did, I would have to hate Toyota's. There are two brands of vehicles I hate though. 1) Suzuki (Samurai's and Sidekicks). Have you ever tried to keep up with one on a trail? Impossible 'cause they're so damn small. 2) Fords, 'cause, well, they're Fords. Haha

haha well i guess none of you have ever been offroading in a land rover. fucking beastly...

My close friend was really into cars and he got a manual legacy from his parents, i think it was 99"-01' . anyways he got a job and started doing some tuning to it, he got some nice rims and tires, which made it suuuuper sick looking, he got a cold air intake on craigslist which made it sound super duper, and then he got hiigher quality struts and sway bars and shocks and such, and mannnn, the car was soo nicee. it was the best to take to the hill, took 4 people and all their gear comfortably for a weekend trip. it was fast, handled really well, never had any trouble, and he drove that thing like nascar. it was aweosme, i think excluding the rims the upgrades were only about 900 bucks and it was wayy nice

Most SUVs are better for the environment then a hybrid for the fact that the Hybrids have batteries that arent recyclable. And besides that, almost every american manufacture's suvs have the opiton for hybrid or flex fuel now.

im talking like hella technical trails, deep mud, the gnar shit, not logging roads and dirt highways. and land rovers are fucking beastly expensive too...

man i bet most people posting in this thread dissing people dont even drive yet....but anyway what is the big deal with jeeps? there reliability is ok not anything better than any other car, they are extremely small for there size look much bigger than room inside handle like crap ride like crap on raods and 99.99999% of the time u dont go offroad...i think its a pointless car for the most part

thats like saying when the peeps of NS ski, they ski 99% park cuz they have twintips. its different for eveyone, this summer, i was on paved roads about 45% of the time. 55% was wheelin'. but thats just in my jeep. dont be so vague yo.

get an older (mid 90s) gsx, lift it an inch or so, put some burly snow tires on it, and you're good to go.
as for me, I'm looking for a ford 15passenger 4wd diesel van that I'll rip most of the seats out of, and turn part of it into living quarters, the back into a tune/repair bench, and then a basket on top for skis and a rack on back for bikes. paint it flat black with blacked out windows and black wheels, it'll be sick!

really though. they are pretty beastly offroad. my dads is just insane. goes through anything. this isn't me, but check out what these trucks are capable of.

now i've done some crazy stuff, but if your saying that an LR3 isn't capable of riding the stuff you go through, then I'd like to see what you go through. I'm not tryin to be a dick, i'm just curious.

or this

Range Rovers aren't what they used to be and it really disappoints me. People drive them in the city and that's it, just like Escalades and Suburbans. Really fuckin' bums me out. I remember when we had a 97 suburban it was a fuckin' beast. I was 6 or 7 when we sold it but I remember it could take anything. We would still own it if it hadn't broken down so much. Does anyone else have this problem with their Chevys?

my yota did pretty well scaling some pretty steep slopes in central VT today on snow (yes, SNOW in VT in OCTOBER) and >8inches of mud... so im not too worried about making it to the mountain. its got a 2inch lift and 32x11.50R15 BFG T/A KOs...

but seriously

I had one of these for years. A little underpowered but a great car and easy to work on.

the first video wasnt very impressive since downhill is easier than up, usually, for traction.

the second was not impressive at all, a new JK could do that as well. And i sent you pics of my jeep, and it is much more capable than a lil stock rover

oh, funny story...

so i was with the friend i menioned with the '93 (YJ?) doing some trails. he went flying through a pretty big puddle, and since he has no skid plate or protection under his engine, the water came up and took his belt off... it took us a good 20 minutes to get it back on. always gotta have that skid plate.

Ive used to drive a subaru legacy, now drive a jeep yj, mom drives a focus, dad drives a magnum and id say the subaru is the best in snow. Focus also is really good with snow tires and the magnum is good, but not for a 50 grand car, its just too heavy. My jeep is good if in 4wd but otherwise its terrible even on wet/loose roads. Sure you can always put it in 4 but you dont want to always drive like that.

Id say either go with an awd or fwd car. ive never once had problems fitting everything into my moms focus hatchback or my subara. Cars are a lot better on gas to get to the mountain too

i know what you mean (and agree), but he's saying that jeeps are more capable offroad than rovers...

rovers are pretty baller. my stock system is unreal crazy loud.

subaru...no question. get the impreza wrx wagon. looks good and is fuckin fast as hell. plus good storage, room for your buds, and awd

depends for what. around town, gettin grocerys and whatnot, the rover. wheelin, the jeep. since jeep parts are much easier to find. and, if i had to buy it, id buy the jeep though since its cheaper

yea word my taco has 2 under the engine and 1 under the gas tank.

and i would rather drive an old jeep than a new rover, but older rovers (like the 92-95 defenders when they were imported into the US) are sweet when theyre manual.

ahahahaha today is the first day I have ever actually paid attention to my Karma Rating and it dropped because I said that I would rather have a Rover than a Jeep??? haha what the fuck, I think I will go back to not even looking at that stupid number

bump, what does everyone drive?

I drove 2wd VW cars in my teens and through my twenties, and in bad storms I would be digging myself out of getting stuck and always be weary of how I was parked, probably chained up in 100 different blizzards, etc.

And then I got a 4 door Tacoma on 33” mud terrains and I have yet to get in a situation that it doesn’t just dominate. Changed my life.

If you live in CO I would get a 2006 or 2007 Subaru Impreza 2.5i with a 5spd transmission. Insurance is cheap due to no turbo, it gets 30 mpg, it has enough power to get you up I-70 and all WRX suspension and body parts from about 2003 to 2007 fit on it. This last bit it important because everyone and their brother wrecks WRXs in CO and there are tons of parts on Craigslist etc to keep it going. That and you can get snow tires and rims for like $300.
