Best Car For Skiing?

Getting a used car JUST for skiing, what would you recommend , or what do you already have that's the best car for skiing?
 
definitly a jeep cherokee. room for your buddies and gear and awesome in the snow. im selling mine actually, depending where your at, we could work a deal out here it is.

1999 Jeep cherokee classic 4x4
-Gold exterior
-Grey interior
-4spd automatic transmission
-117000 miles
-Power locks/windows/mirrors
-Everything is in working order
-10 inch JL audio subwoofer powered by a 450 watt alpine amp.
-infinity speakers around the car
-Heavy duty optima red top battery
-Receiver hitch
-The jeep has a 2 inch BDS lift installed
-30 inch BFGoodrich All-terrain tires on factory premium alloy rims.
-Also have a set of mickey thompson classic lock off road wheels that i will include in the sale.
-Performance flowmaster exhaust- gives a nice gurgle to to the v6.
-Overall the jeep is in good condition, a few scratches from normal use and mileage given.
-transmission works perfect, no slipping.
-4 wheel drive works great and transfer case is perfect working order.
-Have changed oil every 3000 miles
-will also throw in a 6 place thule ski rack.

well since im purchasing a snow machine my car of choice would be any smaller truck. im going to buy a ford ranger. yay.
 
wow this many posts have passed before someone has mentioned a subaru? for real there is no competition. out back legacy wrx all the best.
 
ya i can't wait for winter, its even big enoug to sleep in and thats what i really look for in a car, roadtripss!
 
for snow, really an awd car is better than a 4wd suv. unless your driving through like 3 feet of snow you dont need an suv.
it depends alot on how much you can spend, if its just a couple grand, an old audi 90 or coupe quattro, they have a locking center diff and they are total tanks. or an e30 325ix, they are damn cheap and extremely good in snow.
if you can spend a little more either a 2.5rs or 1.8t a4.

or this. i dont think it would be possible have any more fun than you would in this car. its for sale for 6 grand. and i guess it has like 20 grand of performance parts in it.

 
phhhhh people in these thread never take into consideration repair costs, maybe because their rich parents pay for them i dont know

but honestly if skiing is your main concern, any 4 cylinder hatchback is ideal. Corolla, focus, civic, celica etc etc. Theyre all fwd, all great in the snow, great on gas, lug tonnes of gear and are cheap to repair, buying things like subarus and audis is just reason to spend extra money that you dont need to, and maybe even have. I drove a fwd eagle talon all winter with no snow tires, and i live in a very hilly area and got everywhere i needed to fine. You will get a more recent car with less miles that will go longer if you spend your money on a more reasonable investment. Although, i didnt think that jeep was the worst idea in the world either, at least theyre cheap to buy and would be great if you lived in the mountains.
 
Awesome. I've seen some really good ideas come up so far. Subaru and jeep are in my consideration now. I'm not really looking for a fuel efficient car, just great in the snow and no damn tire chains or snow tires. I'm sick of that crap now. All I'm going to do is ski in it and possibly drive down the street to school. I don't care about gas. Does have to be somewhat reliable though. 4WD!
 
if you want to be a badass get an old ford bronco. soooo baller. dont drive subarus or you risk looking like a yupee piece of shit. but ford bronco.
 
subaru outback. end of story.

subies last forever if you treat them right and even though you say you're not looking for a fuel efficient car it sure will add up as opposed to a jeep.
 
I don't drive but I know that Subaru Outbacks are pretty good for just about everything. I could be wrong though because I know close to nothing about cars.

are you kidding? does a ranger even have 4wheel drive? 0 weight in the back? not exactly a "snow machine"
 
subaru outback or legacy no question for me. I have a 2001 legacy wagon and i loveeeeeee it. Its amazing in the snow, tons of space in the back for all my crap, way more space than a jeep. And you say you don't care about fuel, but how can you not with gas over $4 a gallon? My subaru averages 26-27 mpg which is pretty darn good id say
 
yeah with my automatic im getting about 29-30. and i dont think theyre that much more to repair. theyre getting more and more popular.
 
Sweet we already have a van but we're sick of damn tire chains. It's a Toyota Sienna and it has fwd. I've heard pickups are crap because of the lightweight in the rear but something like a jeep grand cherokee or tahoe or something like that sounds pretty good.
 
My sister's impreza slides around in the snow a little more than my Outback, although it's still totally superior to most other cars when it comes to driving in the snow. But yeah, I've never gotten my Outback stuck, and have never lost control even for a second (with snow tires). There's a good reason we always ditch the FWD cars and take mine to get to the trailheads in the winter.
 
subaru all the way. if you can afford it i'd go with the new wrx or sti since they wagon and look sick and HELLA FAST! so you can get to the hill quicker :)

i got a jeep wrangler tho its fun
 
ha an evo will kill any subaru. sti's are still pretty sick, but it can hardly compare to an evo, if you have driven both you would know, the evo what the sti wishes it could be and more.
 
ha thats no sti, thats a 150,000 dollar rally car with an sti body, if you tried jumping an sti on a jump like that it would snap in half.
thats one thing that annoys me about people with sti's and evo's they think just because some 200,000 dollar wrc car looks similar, that their car is suddenly a full out rally car.
i was watching the dc mtn lab video for the first time with my friend who owns a subaru, and after the rally car segment he said "thats why i have a subaru" i just laughed.
sti's and evo's are still awesome in snow and dirt, and its about as close as you can get to a rally car for a a stock car, but once you actually drive it like one, its gonna fall apart.
 
Never seen a Subaru in a terrible wreck on the 542... Of course I usually sleep on the way up and down, but still haven't seen one.

this is what i got, a 1995 chevrolet suburban, 4WD, V8 5.7L vortec engine, it has gone through 3 feet of snow, shits a beast
 
Sweet I was thinking more of a suburban or Tahoe typr of thing. Then Ican haul all my buddies and gear up the hill no matter what.
