Best camera in the $1000 range

I need to know what video camera if there is any that are worth geting that are in the $1000 range is best to look into.
 
get a used 3ccd prosumer camera, like a canon gl or a sony vx. or if you keep your eyes open, you might be able to score a panasonic dvx100 or 100a. if you can, get either of those. theyre the sickest.
 
Just drop the $2000 and get a VX 2100. If you're only willing to spend $1000 get the Sony VX1000. shit's rill.'
 
By a 200 dollar camcorder and use the rest for skis. These cameras are way over priced for the quality you can get for cheap nowadays.
 
i don't know if you go to college, but a couple of friends of mine (graphic design majors) applied for a grant through the college and got like $700 toward a good ass camera. It would be way worth anyone's while to look into doing this.
 
If you can't find a deal on one fo the higher 3ccd cams, don't be fooled, the $1000 price range 1 ccd cams shoot better video... IE Canon Optura XI (what I use).
 
vx1000 is so awesome, the only thing is that it isnt that great for low light and it sucks for stuff at night. if your filming only in the day thats what id get. if not mabye a vx2000 or 2100. i like sony cameras alot.

and dont get an hd camera unless its a really nice one like the fx1, i hate the cheap hd cam footage for some reason.
 
message tanakaskier, if he hasnt sold his gl2 he will sell it to you for 1400 or 1450 with a backpack i think
 
no 200 dollar camcorder can get quality anywhere near comprable to that of a sweet 1000-2000$ 3ccd. My friend got a vx2000 for a little over a grand, I dont know much about cameras but I asked him about the 2100 and he said it wasn't really worth the extra dough. not sure what it is, but the panasonic that iLOVEchapstick rocks is fuckin ill too.
 
once again, if youre going to drop gl2 or vx2100 money, the panasonic dvx100(a/b) is a much better investment. films in 24p, which is almost comparable to 16mm quality (good for still camera shorts, tripod, etc), 30p, 60i. its super versatile, and the 24p quality is absolutely unreal.

you should be able to find the dvx100, the original model, for relatively cheap, not too much over 1000. believe me, youll be extremely happy with the investment.
 
o and the sony hc1 will be hard to find cuz its discontinued, but i know a few people that are trying to sell one. Its used in edits like "keystone october", check it out to see what you think of the quality.
 
now there is an hc3 and it is basically as good as the hc1 but just doesnt have the focus ring, and here is a video that is filmed abit by the hc3 (when it wasnt embeded it had much better quiality, you could ask him for a short clip from the hc3, if you are interested in buying it form him for 1000 [ITS a good deadl]) by K2PublicEnemy360 , http://media.putfile.com/Game-Night-Teaser
 
DO NOT BUY FROM THAT SITE!!!

Almost 100% of the time when you see a higher end camera for brand new for around $1,000, it is a scam. They dont keep records of your order, take your money, and claim it never happened when you complain that you never recieved the camera. They make you do it over the phone, so that no record can be kept of the sale. DO NOT BUY!

wherever you buy from, check it out at www.resellerratings.com and read reviews of that store. I know it would be nice if it was legit, but its too good to be true. The only time you can get one for that cheap is used from a person, be it ebay or whatever.
 
what Bp. said. the DVC-30. it shoots 30p and 601, has tons of manual controls. a lot like the dvx minus 24p. I plan on getting the dvc 30 when i get the money. right now im filming with a one chip with a fisheye taped on and half a crappy snow goggle lens over the fisheye also taped on becuase my exposure thing is broken and the footage is way to bright when i try to film snowboarding/skiing. and i a homemade handle. GHETTO
 
I have to admit, when I got a DVX, I was expecting to love the 24p the most, but taking into account my style of cinematography, I find myself shooting 30p almost all of the time. I can slow it down and make it look a little more like film, and its not as blurry as frame mode.
 
the dvx100 is a really nice camera, but i dont know if its worth the extra money when you could buy a vx2100 or something similar. 24p does look good but its way overrated in my opinion. our school uses two dvx100's and none of the footage ive seen is as great as people say.
 
hah yeah i hear a lot of people say 24p isnt great for action. i want a DV(se)X so bad, but im broke so ima go dvc then eventually get a dvx, maybe hvx200 if the prices come way down by that time
 
Sony HDR-HC1 or HC3, both cameras have the new CMOS processors which is suprisingly better looking than 3ccd, both cameras are low profile and dont cost much. And have HDV recording quality, overall resolution comes out to about 1920x1080...otherwise look for a older GL2 search ebay for them!
 
but yeah for 1000 dollars if you want a real unique look get a vx1000, otherwise a gl2, vx2000 or something will be great.

and dont listen to those guys saying a 1 chip is better than 3ccd thats just bullshit.

you could get an hd but its only worth it if its atleast an fx1 or something similar, otherwise a 3 chip will look better. even with something like an fx1 i dont like hd that much, film looks so much better and more unique in my opinion.
 
alright let me explain, I have a FX1 and an HC3, now with the 3 chip i have great quality, but it seems like some of the shots kind of have a drag, the HC3 w/ the CMOS processor picks up more color, and picks up the picture better atleast to my eye, i've also used a FX7, which uses 3 cmos processors, and is alot sharper and cleaner than the fx1, for what you could pay, yes its a handycam, but the HDV combined w/ the CMOS is absolutely stunning! and deffinately worth it. i'm not saying its better, both 3ccd, and cmos have there pros and cons but would highly reccomend the cmos proccessor when filming movement and sports
 
with that vx1000 since it dosnt have a screen dosnt that make it extremly hard to do things like folow cams and shit like that? Cus i can get one of them for a good good price so i need to know if i should.
 
you never use the screen for follow cams, you wouldnt be able to see shit anyway, screens suck during the day. you can definatly tell where your pointing the camera, it may seem like it would be hard to keep someone in a shot but its wayyy easier than you think. and for everything else just use the viewfinder.

ive got a vx2100 and i never use the screen unless its night, the viewfinder is much better.

get the vx1000 you will love it.
 
i find that hard to beleive. i compared my GL1 to a sony hd with cmos in low light and the GL blew it out of the water. the picture was clear when well lit but i am a firm believer taht you really need a 3 chip to get broadcast quality shots.
