i know this should be under media and arts so dont yell at me but oh well

you guys that do filming.. is the canon zr20 a good camera to take skiing? i want to start making some movies and thats the cheapest camera.. i need something i can afford

I found the canon ones too small but that's just me. I got one of the JVC's. I haven't had a chance to film other than at SnowJam in toronto. I put up some pics if u want to see the quality.

Later,

Chris

Don't listen to ECFS-Attitash. The XL1 is around $3000.

you want to get a camera with a 'Progressive scan ccd' and at least 500 lines of resolution.

I wrote up a whole bunch of information in the Media Forum under a topic called 'best camera' or 'which camera.'

look at www.cnet.com for camera ratings and reviews.

I just got a Canon Optura Pi and it is incredible. It was $907 but is really worth it because the picture quality and color trueness is excellent.

cheers,

Christophe

yea i was kidding, you know its really expendsive when the rebate is 500 dollars...my school has like four, so we take them out for the weekend to the golf course kicker...thats where the ryan dunfee pics on freeridezone.com came from

hey..i just bought the canon..dont get the zr20..get the zr30..its 100 more but u get photo capabilities and shiz, its PRETTY DAMN SMALL so its good for like ride alone shots during skiing or skateboarding when i use it..prolly a little small to make a WHOLE MOVIE with..if u got the cash get the canon gl 1...its 1500 but worth every penny

Just get a Fuji Finepix 40i. You can shoot decent avi files with sound.

I have it, small and convenient. Takes up only 2 AA batteries. You can get if off ebay at around 400~440 US$

oh god...that has got to be the worst advice ever...sure its cheap but you want to be able to see people on the video right

Well, it depends on how you shoot and where you are shooting from. Really, if you're shooting a jump or whatever, do you really care how the skier looks when he's doing the trick or whatever? U can shoot his face after the jump or trick.

Just my .02. This is a digital camera and not a camcorder. ^^

no no...what i mean was that it would be so grainy you couldnt see the TRICK! yea those digital camera .AVIs are crap.

Well, u do have a point but if you want convenience and not carry a camcorder with u, i think this 40i is ur best shot.

im looking for something around 500 bucks.. i dont care how big it is or anything like that all i care about is decent pic quality for my first dv cam

for 500 you should see what you can get off ebay - 500 wont get you a worthy camera though

what about sony? my school has a couple of digital8s and they seem pretty good. how would they hold up in the cold?

efcs attitash, the pics of dunfee on the freeridezone are from anthonys still camera, a digital video camera could not produce stills of that quality.

GoPro Hero3 White Edition is only $200 and can fit in your pocket instead of lugging around a huge camera.
