ehh if your going the real camera route you should throw in more than just $400. A gopro HD would be perfect for this price range, since he just wants a simple high quality camera.

@op: I'm thinking of selling my PV-GS320. Its mint, only used for like 10-15 hours, no use at all considering i've had it for 3 years. I'm way more into photography and need the cash to buy another lens. has a raynox semi-fisheye (retail $100-120), one standard battery, one battery that lasts from 6-8 hours, a bunch of tapes, a case, firewire cable. Everyone who's saying GoPro doesn't know shit...neither do I. Thats why YOU need to tell us what you want in a camera. Are you looking to point it at someting and get it on film? If so, GoPro. Or, conversely, are you looking to learn the basics of videography - the shot movement, the framing and lighting etc - and the ins and outs of a "real" camera? If so, get a real camera.
In my opinion you should get a real camera (I'm hoping you're looking to improve your videography skills with some sort of vigor). Learn how to use exposure, white balance, zoom, focus, and color to your advantage. Videography is very fun, very interesting, but you really cant do shit with a GoPro (there are exceptions, but AbeK is dope...).

and I'll restate that a Gs320 would be a great choice.
At your price range, HD won't be an option. However you can learn alot with one of these and upgrade to an HD cam in a couple years if you get into it. If you eventually decide that you don't really care for the complicated aspect, you can always just put it on auto and it will be easy to get good footage.
And go pros, I just don't like them. All their footage just has this weird feel to it when there is motion. I don't care if its 30p or 60p, if its at 100% or 50% speed, it just looks sorta strange.
