Best bet ever...

Yah, so one of my best friends at school is a snowboarder. He's one of the most cliche "extreme" people ever. In other words, he thinks he's the shit at everything pretty much. He's usually a really cool guy to hang out with, and he's definitely one of my favorite buds to hit the slopes with, but sometimes his over-the-top hardcore bullshit can get pretty annoying. For that reason, I jumped on the chance to extort him when he was hammered the other day.

He has never skiied IN HIS LIFE, and even though he has respect for skiers when he sees a sick movie segment every now and then, he is covinced it isn't that hard at all to be a dope skier.

For this reason, he bet me 100 bucks that he could pick up a pair of free demo park skis during free-demo-day at our shitty local mountain, practice for a while, and then after lunch be able to beat me in a HORSE-type game.

I'm going to kill him, but the bet is definitely setting the bar even higher for me this season. I don't just want to win, I want to bury him so bad that he'll finally shut the fuck up. I'm going to lay the hammer down on his ass. I can't wait. I'll probably be able to get the first letters with just a straight air, a regular straight rail hit, and a 180 at speed.

I sat down with him at lunch the day after he made the bet and he still seemed confident he was going to beat me, but his overall enthusiasm appeared to have diminished a bit. He's still gonna go through with it, though. Yesssssssssss, demo day can't come soon enough.

nice man. but dont just beat him with straight airs and stuff. do the most tech tricks you are comfortable with and just destroy him. and when you are about to win, try something insane cuz it doesnt even matter if you miss it and if you hit it it will be even better.

that's exactly what i was planning on doing

im gonna bust out the easy stuff and start beating him that way, just to get the point across that he's full of shit, then put the nail in the coffin with all the new stuff i will have been working on all season at that point.

i wouldnt totally demoralize him if i wasnt 99% positive that this experience wont convert him to skiing. id be nice if there was a chance of that happening, but he's so wired into snowboarding that i just feel like crushing him.

He won't pay up when he loses.. I can tell you that right now. Nobody would go through with dropping 100 bones a a ski game of HORSE.

hahahaha yeah i hope not, he's a pretty damn good boarder so i think he'll know what's within his limits once he gets the hang of skis. i doubt he'll step up and try to throw a crit 3 or something off a park booter if he knows for sure he's gonna eat shit.

anyway, as far as video, yeah, we're DEFINITELY gonna get it all on film. it's gonna be a really fun day all around i think, i wanna edit it up and put it all on youtube when we're done.

as a side note, pretty much everyone who knows about the bet is totally pumped about seeing it go down. other people have actually started talking about betting on it, and one of our buddies wants to handicap my friend and generate some ballpark vegas odds on it.

the crazy thing about all this is that there are actually people who think he has a chance. all of my friends who know both of us and have gone riding with us keep telling him he's completely stupid though.

no matter what happens, i think it's gonna be hilarious

thats kinda like me, so i like doing these types of bets with people because i knwo just by giving a small time frame that i can get reallly good at stuff.

e.g. this year i picked up football for the first time eeevvveerr and am now starting corner back on my high school team( about 85 kids tryd out, about 60 have been playing football for years)

yah i cant throw switch 7s or anything yet, and i dont know if ill be able to by the time this comes around. but yeah, that's the idea. do a bunch of easy shit and then hit a few out of the park.

but yeah, i am a little afraid he'll pick it up quick. i dont think there's a HUGE risk here though, considering he's got to go from being on skis for the first time in the morning, to beating me in the park by the afternoon...

ive been skiing for almost 20 years, and i started park like 3 years ago. ive been progressing slow cause i had a bad shoulder injury that started when i was surfing a couple summers ago, and i had to have surgery on it. because of that i was pretty scared to push the envelope last season, but i feel like this bet is going to light a fire under me. i hope to at least triple my park skills by the time i compete with him. i REALLY dont want to lose this.

plus im hungry for shit

watch out man, not to scare but i was once on the snowboard side and i was bet against, i wasnt raging extreme, but i thought i had a chance,

i didnt win, but it was close enough for me to quit snowboarding

and im expecting him to pay up, but i think if i win and i end up improving my park game a bunch as a result of this challenge, ill just take like 20 bucks off of him and get him to pay for my drinks that night or something.

i mean, he's one of my good friends, and this is going to be a big motivation for me to get better, so im not gonna hold him to the fire on paying me, especially if i end up improving a lot this year as a result of the pressure that this is gonna put on

by the sound of it it seems like you can prob do 1's and 3's and rails pretty clean, correct me if I'm wrong. Just to put thing into perspective I used to snowboard and started skiing last season. I spend about the first day and a half just getting my skiing skills up to par, was able to do rails and 180's consistently by the third, and by the fourth day I was able to land 360's. I consider myself decent at picking things up, so as long as he isn't amazing at picking new stuff up theres no way he's gonna learn .all that in just ONE day, especially with no prior skiing experience.

yah youre pretty much right, 1's are no problem for me except on bigger hits, 3's im getting better at, gonna start doing them switch soon. wanna get 5's down and maybe try a few 7's this year. and yeah, im pretty solid on rails and boxes, i just want to start sticking 270 ons, switchups (reg and blindside) and 450 offs soon, then start linking them together. that's actually probably the first thing im gonna do this year as soon as i get access to a decent jib in a few weeks.

i dont doubt he'll probably have a decent knack for it, but he wont even be up to my current level within the first day. if i can keep progressing well and start linking all those rail tricks together and get a couple good grabs in my spins he's totally toast. as long as i dont fall a bunch...

and yeah, anyone who wants to see this: we're DEFINITELY gonna put it on youtube. we both agree that at the very least it'll be a really entertaining day, and we'll probably be able to get a lot of fun shots out of it. plus everyone i talk to at school keeps saying the same thing..."get that on fucking video, that's gonna be so awesome"

if i lose, i lose, i dont really care...this is just gonna motivate me to get a lot of new tricks stomped this season, that's basically the whole point. i probably WONT lose, but im not gonna be super pissed if i do. if he wins, he definitely will have earned it.

u should leaarn some sweet tip spins or somethin cause that shit takes practice. Just mess with him and it will make for a really funny vid.

yeah bro blow him outta the water. just throw down a massive tweaked 3 to start it off and keep on boosting it from there if you can.

if you want to have a quick game avoid boxes and do switch tricks. i skied this year for a day for the first time in a long while and i could slide boxes and 180 jumps. i could switch 180 the real tiny stuff. if hes a really could boarder he may be able to keep up on the easy stuff. i think it just depends on how long you want the game to be. it should def make for an entertaining vid.

agreed, im 99% sure i could beat him with what i can throw now, but im going to up the ante this season just to make sure.

and yeah, GO LIVERPOOL, ESPN at like 245 ET...fuuuuuuuuuck Marseille

Land something switch off a decent size jump. I think landing switch probably takes the most getting used to.

switch take offs would kill him. like switch 3's and 7's would put him to sleep, so just do that shit. but you might wanna watch out, idk about switching from snowboarding to skiing but i tried to snowboard for a day and once i learned to control my speed i was throwing 5's over like 35-40 foot gaps, so if he is good on a snowboard he could have decent air awareness...doubts though.

Hes never skied before and seems confident about beating you?? Well i'd suggest rails and landing or taking off switch. They're both a bitch when you're first learning.

do 1s, 5, and grabs... something with a switch take off too and theres no chance for him

grabs will really mess him up though cause theyre completely different postitions
