Does anybody know what the BEST all around twins are? Like i'm talking good carvers, good spinners good landings, switch riding etc? my Nordica Beasts were good skiis but they were too heavy and cracked. I need replacments...

alot of the skis now are basically the same, i mean they may be designed differently but they all do the same thing. most of it is now personal prefrance

I would say that the TMs and Mavericks would be some of the best all-around twins, especially if you want carving ease. This is based solely off the skis' construction, as I have ridden neither of them.

If you want a wider ski than the TMs or Line models, I have heard that the PE and AR5 are stiff enough to carve well.

I would still think that the TM or Line models would initiate and hold carves better than the other twins. I chose the Maverick over the other Line models because the directional twin gives it more running surface than the MN or SS.

You can't specify the best twin. Everyone will say different

pocket rockets - awesome handling in pow but little does everyone know it handles like a SUV with super power steering!! It also has awesome swing weight when you are spinning. Defies the crtics saying that they are to fat for jibbing

Yes, everyone will say something different. Anbyway:

V-Pros. Enough width for powder, enough stiffness for charging through anything, high tail, wood core, bomber construction.

Since the V-Pro won't be made in a 190 next year, how similar are they to the G4? I once heard Volkl used the same mould for both skis.

No 190 V-Pro? Wow - big mistake I think. The V-Pro and MadTrix were the only 190s I think - definite market there.

Anyway, the G4 is very similar in shape - just a little fatter in the tip I think (118 vs 113mm I think). But the G4 is a bit stiffer and has a layer of metal in it. The tail kick on the G4 is only about and inch at the most though. Still, it's an awesome ski from what I've read - it can charge through crud like it's nothing, float in powder and still carve up the groomers - a true one ski quiver if you're not hugely into park. However, I've heard that because of the stiffness they are pretty demanding - you have to put a lot into in or it will kick you about. But since you are looking at the 190, I assume you are pretty big, so you should be able to handle them.

BamBam:

I know that the 02/03 V-Pros and MT came in a 190, but I've heard that the 03/04 skis won't come so long. I checked out a Russian site which has some of the 03/04 skis and the V-Pro is still being made in a 190, but it doesn't look like next year's MT will be that long.

And yes, I am pretty big: 6'4, 195. My old Line Dragons are d-e-d dead (and were too soft for my taste)

While that is true, some skis will be better suited for certain people, types of terrain, etc.

The question is far from retarded. The dude wants to know skis that can handle all conditions well - something that can ski bumps, powder, groomers and park. For instance, skis like the 1080 mogul or Seth Pistol would be bad examples, as they are aimed at specific areas of use.

What about the 1080s vs the Scratch FS? If you were only going to buy one ski for the season, which would you think would be best ski to manage the mountain?

Wouldn't a stiffer twin, with more sidecut and a slightly narrower waist, perhaps with a tail a little lower than usual have characteristics that lend themnselves towards all-mountain riding more than others? This isn't about which ski looks better or is 'cooler,' it's about which ski is built better for the task at hand (all-mountain).

more sidecut, narrow waist?????? wtf are you talking about how would that make a ski better all mtn, you want a fat straight ski with not to much sidecut. And ya overall most allmtns are stiff but then look at the seth pistols they are soft and still rule so it doesnt really make a differnce just personal preference, the guy above me i forget his name is a moron you just need to stop talking dude

More sidecut equates to more ease carving. A narrower waist generally means a ski is quicker edge to edge.

you want a fat straight ski with not to much sidecut.

That's great if you are lucky enough to ski powder as the rule rather than the exception.

And ya overall most allmtns are stiff but then look at the seth pistols they are soft and still rule

They were also primarily intended for use in the BC, where a softer flexing ski works well in pow.

so it doesnt really make a differnce just personal preference, the guy above me i forget his name is a moron you just need to stop talking dude

Again, different skis are constructed for different uses. A soft, wide BC twin won't perform as well on harpack as a narrower, stiffer one will.

I tried to put the parts I was quoting in square brakets, but the forum's code doesn't allow for it (apparently).

My Dynastar LBFs were a prefect mix, for pow and park. The skis are awesome on the groomed, like a GS ski, very stable if you can hold an edge.

P.S. JAPAN HAS SICK POWDER. ITS NOT CALLED A 'DUCK A ROPE PARADISE' FOR NOTHING. YOU CAN RIDE FRESH LINES ALL DAY ' A WEEK or 2 AFTER A STORM. OH YES ITS THAT GOOD.

what do u guys think the best all around PARK skis are... like im talkin about 90% park 10% mountain

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Remember, theres no such thing as bad snow! just shitty skiers!

at the top you said you wanted something lighter than your Beasts but still able to blaze on all mountain. Well here's the thing. Ski designers know that to make a ski fast it has to be stiff. to be stiff it needs a very solid core. a very solid core is heavy. what i'm trying to say is there's always gonna be a trade off.

I'm riding Mad Trix which are super solid and sweet in the park. But they're a little heavier than most skis. I've found 1080s are stable, but heavy and not the best anywhere outside the park. Scratches are super nice if you want something lighter that still cuts the groomers.
