The new thursday Cd is freaking awesome 'war all the Time' rules. I think its a revolutionarys Cd. Other CD's like the new Coheed and Cambria is really really good too, same with things like thrice.

There are so many good albums out there that compiling this list would be hell. But I would have to say that GnR Appetite should be on that list, one of if not the best Hard Rock Metal albums ever made.

the problem (in my honest opinion) is that people often base their opinions of Top Ten Albums of all time on personaly preference and listening tastes, and not necessarily the impact that the album had on the society as a whole, or the specific genre or the music industry in general. I think it would be interesting to see peoples opinions of Top Ten Bands/Performers/Songwriter of all time (in stead of Albums) so you can't have more than one album from an Artist. Unfortunately again, some of the most influential Bands/Performers do not get enough credit, they may have paved the way for other artists to kick down the door of aceptance.

Some Bands/Artists (from the last 20 years or so) that I would include on the list are:

Metalica (Changed the sound of metal/hard rock)

Guns 'N Roses (made metal/hard rock generally acceptable and produced some incredible albums)

Rush (some of the most complex instrumentals)

Living Colour (proved metal/hard rock was not limited to a white crowd or performers)

Canderia (to much to say here, but, interacial hard core, crazy time signatures, off-beat rythyms, introduction of 'non' conventional instruments into a hardcore/metal sound...)

Downset (Paved the way for a lot of rap influenced metal)

Michael Jackson (unfortunately and I hate to admit it but he greatly impacted the music industry and pop music)

Weird Al (paved the way for successful parody/sarcastic musical comedians - does anyone doubt his talent?)

and the list could go on but I'm sick or typing and know I'm off topic, so ignore my mindless rant if you want

 
i thought since i liked 'old' music i was some type of loser but i seems that alot of people on here likes Pink Floyd and Ac/dc Bad Company that is pretty badass that 'Old' music is still alive.
