Beruit or Beer Pong

I searchbarred and this was last posted in 2006, i hate arguing about it at parties, Beer pong is with paddles and beruit is shooting.

what do you guys think?

yeah i thought so but everyone just calls it beerpong anyway and everyone knows what they're talking about.

Honestly man, it's not a distinction that needs to be made. besides, who the hell plays 'beer pong' with paddles? and who the hell calls what most know as beerpong, 'beruit'?

I call it beer pong and so does everybody I know, and everyone I've ever met at a party. Maybe it's a Michigan thing, but I've never heard it called beiruit.

Calling beirut "beer pong" is retarded. Beer pong, like many people have said in this thread, involves paddles. beirut is throwing.

I'm in East Lansing for school, but I live in SE Michigan in a little city called Beverly Hills. It's like 25 minutes from Detroit.

I have only heard beruit from people on facebook. So in california and washington and stuff we say beer pong for (usually) 10 cups and throwing the balls. No paddles

You really don't know what you're talking about do you? Dartmouth invented beer pong which was played with paddles. A few kids from Lehigh University were up visiting their Dartmouth friends and brought it back to Lehigh. The frat at Lehigh that was playing it broke all of their paddles and just started throwing it. They called this new game 'Beruit' because it was during the Lebanese Civil War and Beruit was the newly formed capital.

everyone calls it pong yet plays beirut, it doesn't matter
beirut is throwing the ball into cups in the center, pong is hitting the ball into cups in the corners using a ping pong paddle with no handle

We call it pong here...I didn't even know that people actually played with paddles and tried to hit it into corners...that seems hard

depends where u hail from... in nj i never heard of beruit til i visited a buddy freshman year of college in boston. a lot of mass people call it ruit, but they also call a 30 pack, 30 rack(?)... a friend in connecticut calls it pong, ny its pong for the most part, vt its usually pong... atleast from the people i kno... i still call it pong even though i kno real pong is with paddles

woah woah woah...

not everyone calls it a 30 rack?

new england for the most part seems to call it beiruit, or just ruit. at least from what i've seen

thats what im saying, everyone at my highschool does but once you go to a party of a different school they have no idea what you're talking about

Real beer pong > gayruit. Seriously, it's so much more fun to try and play ping pong while drunk than to throw a fucking ball at some cups, I mean c'mon, that's just fucking dumb.

I have a question-- is it "Beirut" (like the city) or as most of you have been spelling it "Beruit"

The latter makes sense if you use the shortening "ruit" but makes no historical sense.

WAIT!! If this was already figured out and posted 3 years ago! why are we talking about it again....
