Bent Chetler vs. EP Pro

So i searched around and didnt find anything comparing these two...

So i need a pow ski that will be fun on bc booters, trees, cliffs, etc. (not a ton of hardcore shredding) but a FUN ski.

The bent chetler seems like it will fit the bill but im intrigued by the EP Pro because of its cult-like following for being "the most fun ski ever" i am just not sure that i want a 127mm ski thats 185cm

As for me i am 5'8" 135 or 140lbs advanced skier and usually like softer skis

for reference in my quiver i will now have:

-169 JO Pros (park)

-(hopefully) 333 skis (176cm, 134-102-122 w/ a little tip rocker) (touring)

- ??? (powder)

thanks for the help

Bents for sure, ep's are pure dump skis, just good for dinking around on, bents are versatile and just as sick in pow.

Firstly I am biased to the extent that I have ridden EPs and not Bentchetlers (but I have ridden JJs which are similar and made in the same factory). If you are doing the skiing you claim on these, not charging too hard and just playing around, drops to switch in pow, jumps, trees etc, then the EP is the best ski for you. What you described is exactly how I skied last season on my EPs and when I tried JJs they were simply not as good at this type of skiing, and I imagine the Bentchetler to be very similar. Don't get me wrong they still work great, but they are less 'surfy' and they float less well than the EP. I think this must be a product of camber under foot and less rocker. You can still do whatever you want on these and they still float great, but I genuinely think in the pow the EP is much more fun. As for the EP itself, it is soft but I never noticed that to be a problem, they do pretty well on groomed (admittedly less well than JJ/Chetler) and you can charge harder than you would think. The one downside is they do get bounced around in choppy snow and don't break through sun/windpack as easily. I am the exact same size/weight as you and I loved this ski. Switch in pow with ease, butters all day, turns so quick in the trees, no chance of tip dive, its basically the most fun ski ever. The difference in size makes the EP float better due to wider tips/tails (definitely compared to JJs and this probably holds for Chetlers) but there is no difference in length or weight. My EP pro review is in my profile, PM me with any questions you have. You will love EPs or look at theSurface New Life (symmetrical, stiffer, long gradual rocker with high tips). Same surfy feel, centre mount, but less bounced in crud, and charges a bit better about same length and about equal to EP in weight. This might help too:Bentchetler:

Well I am 5'9" 150lbs and absolutely love the EP, the Bentchetler is awesome too, i just prefer softer skis for pow because they tend to rocker a bit more with your weight and the downforce, making git even more effortless to ski pow, the short turning radius on hardpack was a plus for me too and I prefer to mess around in them in the park since its a fat ski, whichever one you buy you will probably not use on 60ft jumps anyway, so if your prefer softer skis go with the EP.

he's got it right.

19m radius on a 123mm ski? gnar. plus theyre light enough and have a low enough swing weight that they're definitely usable in the park if thats your thing.

plus! obviously its a pow slayer, stiff enough to land big drops but still soft and playful.

I rode both the bentchetlers and EPs(both 2009-2010) the same day on similar runs/conditions. (I am 5foot 9, and about 170 pounds)

you could not pay me to ride the shitlers. too stiff, decent in pow/trees but it's just an average ski imo, nothing that makes it stand out from the crowd, besides the somewhat cool graphics i guess

the EP pro was honestly a life-changing experience for me. it was the first piece of sporting equipment I've used that actually made you better. I went bigger, landed smoother, seeing lines/jumps I couldn't do before, that sort of thing. I own a pair and you would not regret owning these

overall the EPs were FUN, the chetlers were alright/average/mediocre

you should get a better grasp on the english language before attempting to write an educated review like youve failed to do here.

bentchetlers are too stiff? get real and get some thighs bro, a little bit of muscle goes a long ways in skiing.

im willing to bet youre about 115lbs. and if not, then you should be embarassed.

whoa dude!!!, be happy winter is on the way!!!

no but truly i'm about 170 pounds and have very very very stong ass/legs/calves, I ride my bike daily (single speed) I have plenty of bulk down there

I'm just sayin, the bents were too stiff and therefore not nearly as fun as the EPs, If i were to make an investment in equipment the EPs would be the ONLY way to go

Does anyone on here actually go look at skis before they buy them??? Seems like everyone just looks at pictures and hopes they're cool when they show up at their doorstep.

If you were in Colorado I'd tell you to come look at the EPs we have at our shop.
