Belleayre?

I think Hunter is going to be the place I am going to ski when I need to stay close to home. Don't think I forgot about you Paulie, I am looking foreward to making some turns with you (in bed) this season.

ski at plattekill. we do what we want when we want. we are the park staff of what could in time be a pretty sick lttle park. we are park staff so what we say goes and when we think a jump needs work we go steal shovels from the lift shak.

I didn't think I could dis-like Tony Lanza anymore than I already do. But damn, he's a fucking moron and really needs to step down.

Im 1.5 hours closer living here than I was at home. Lets see if it really snows up there as much as they say it does.

See you at least once this season up there! And yes Mike, it does snow that much up there. Last time I went, it dumped 48" the night before.

if they aren't going to use the rails any more, what do you think they will do with them? sell them?

I bet he dosen't sleep in the same bed as you.

I also sleep between his parents with him in their bed.

the only rail they had this past season was mine i made it with my dad i let them use it for the season and i got it back the oterweek so yeah

I wouldn't get too worked up on it yet, things with Belleayre are seriously in the air. Tony Lanza really went and fucked things up. There's still hope if they get him out of office soon.

Also, if you're train of thought is leaning towards Belleayre donating their park stuff to Plattekill, fat chance on that, since they jumped on the bandwagon with Hunter and Windham in their cry fest, which they had every right to do. Just sayin'....

yeah I knew that probably would never happen but it would be cool since plattekills only box is made of fiberboard and screws.

So why don't you jump on that? Get involved. Its the only way mountains like these can up the competition. But having people who honestly care about it.

If you want Plattekills park to get better, do it! If you want some insight, there was a thread I had dweeezil make in the Belleayre cult. He, with help, totally revamped Toggenburgs park. They now have a legit park. PM him for some advice. https://www.newschoolers.com/web/members/profile/member_id/61671/

We are getting them to build jumps this year. but they don't have the money for rails. i am building one that i will take there. i mainly want jumps though. thanks for the advice though. we will see what we can do.

someone told me belleayre may not be open this season can anyone tell me if this is true? not that i really care, because i dont like belleayre

i had a ski trip meeting for vermont but the guy who runs it is steve graph who is a ski patrol at belleayre and he said they will have the tomohawk open and VERY VERY limited snowmaking and maintaining. But this year looks very good snow wise. It has dropped below for like 5 out of 7 days on peak at belleayre last weeks he said (Thursday to thursday last week) And almanac says harsh winter here in NY and my mom said she met someone on the train to work one day who works at a bee place and the bees came early for some thing and that means a harsh winter ahead. SO good winter i hope this year, But yeah i am going to hunter this year.

Belleayre fully open!!!!...i think?

this is what belleayre seems to be saying.

they updated their site today, advertising a full opening this season..yay! maybe?

season pass prices have gone up..around 40-50 bucks.

anyway on the site it says to read the full press release..upon further inspection in the second paragraph they state ways to maximize efiency..this is what they will do...i qoute

"Two lifts that are adjacent to other, more highly used lifts will be closed, a change that will have only a marginal impact on lift capacity."

um...what does that mean? i dont think they even know...

anybody?

this is quoted from Belleayre's site:

Belleayre Mountain will be open for riding and skiing seven days a week for the 2008-2009 season, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced today. Weather and conditions permitting, Belleayre will open the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 28, and run through March 2009, operating six lifts and 41 trails and glades.Located in the heart of the Catskill Mountains in Highmount, NY, Belleayre will offer terrain for all levels of riders and skiers from beginner to expert. All programming will be available, including the popular “Kidscamp,” racing programs, and – new this year -- the adaptive ski program. Trained instructors from Belleayre and Helen Hayes Rehabilitation Hospital will provide coaching for the adaptive community.

In response to the state’s fiscal situation, Belleayre is taking a number of steps this season to operate more efficiently while continuing to deliver a world-class regional skiing experience. Two lifts that are adjacent to other, more highly used lifts will be closed, a change that will have only a marginal impact on lift capacity. While snowmaking and grooming on most of the mountain will be unchanged, several of the less frequently used trails will be open on a natural cover basis. Use of the “Half Pipe” terrain also will be weather dependent. In addition, advertising will be reduced, and other operational and administrative efficiencies achieved. These changes will not impact skier safety or any essential operations or maintenance of the ski area.

Most season ticket prices will remain the same as last year. Daily lift tickets will increase slightly to account for higher fuel costs and increases in other operational costs.

DEC Commissioner Pete Grannis thanked Senator John Bonacic and Assemblyman Kevin Cahill for advocating for the Belleayre, an important regional resource.

“The communities throughout the Route 28 Corridor have made their voices loud and clear on the importance of the Belleayre Ski Center to the local economy,” Assemblyman Cahill said. “Commissioner Grannis and Governor (David A.) Paterson have demonstrated a keen understanding of the significance of this facility to the region by putting forth a reasonable plan that accounts for the current pressures in the economy as well as destabilizing energy costs. Working closely with DEC to resolve this issue, we prioritized the need for a full season with a diversity of programs at a reasonable price and that is what Commissioner Grannis delivered.”

Season passes, frequent skiers cards and “Belleayre Bucks” are now on sale. The Belleayre Fall Festival, scheduled for Oct. 11-12, will be held at the Delaware and Ulster Railroad depot on Route 28 in Arkville, just five miles from the ski area.

Belleayre’s annual “Job Fair” for seasonal workers is slated for Nov. 8, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Longhouse Lodge. For more information about employment, specific programming or the upcoming Fall Festival and ski season please go to
