If you had've been paying attention at all during the last 6 months you would have noticed that Belinda Stronach's views on the major issues that were before the cabinet and the house were much more in tune with the liberal views than conservative. The budget that is being put forth is one that is in the best interest for her riding, as it would see billions of dollars put into infrastructure in her area. If the budget was not passed, her area would not have received the money promised to them in the budget. It was only a matter of time before she changed parties...just a bold move to do it at this point in her career....and a total blow to Harper. But hey...that's politics at it's prime for ya!

Regardless of how long its been going on, the fact is that it happened now, when only a week ago she voted to denounce the government. Martin waved a ministry in front of her face, so she went. Its obvious how desperate the liberals were at this point, with this move right here. If Martin thinks this makes him look like a stronger leader, hes wrong. And its not like Stronach does it for the money, she has tons of that, shes doing it for hobby, or glory. I guess it had been a while since the name was in the news with Frank Stronach and the provincial budget.

the problem is, the budget is good. If there defeated, then they'll blames the Conservatives for ruining a good budget. But if they dont vote it out, we have criminals running our country. And even if you dont believe that Martin is a criminal, if hes not, then hes incompitent. How is it possible that the Minister of Finance could not notice that much money disapearing to bogus add companies for bogus add campaigns?

He's neither a criminal nor incompetent, he's guilty of not being aware of everything that was going on in his party. I'm totally in favour of basing an election on conclusive information, rather than saying "No, let's not wait until we know everything, let's vote NOW using inconclusive and non-finalized information as a basis for our country's political future". That, to me, doesn't make sense.

 
remember...if the liberals are taken out of power..all the bills that are in the process of being put together (DECRIMINALIZING POT for one, same sex marriage....stuff that makes Canada stand out in the world) are going to be squashed. Yes the liberal gov't is fucked up right now...and it's not the conservatives that I'm totally concerned with...it's their leader, Steven Harper. He's a nutjob with a crazy right winged agenda.

Also, if all this hadn't have happened and the conservatives did get the nonconfidence vote it is very likely in the election that we would end up with another minority vote, only this time with the conservatives in power. What this means is the next time the budget has to be passed the liberals will probably call a nonconfidence vote, and the whole cycle will start again next year....

All I know is that I can not wait for Ontario, Quebec and a few other coast dwellers (you know who you are) to put the Liberals back into power yet again. Jean is a crook and Martin is clearly incompitent if all this was done behind his back without him "knowing." You'd think it would be his job to know. But I guess at this point I'm expecting way too much out of our politicians, because apparently about a third of this country still feels, with great evidence I might add, that they are, in fact, doing a good job. So vote em in again. Now you got Belinda. From running for leadership of the conservatives to sitting in the cabinet for the Libs, when something finally could have been done. Shows her integrity and loyalty, to her riding, to her party and probably even this country. having personally met Perer Mckay he is not a flake jodi. he is a friend of mine and i know him rather well. I thought i knew Belinda aswell but i relize now what she really stands for... what ever will get her the farthest up the political chain. The day she becomes PM i move to the USA. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

if any of you have any support for athletisism you would stay far far away from the conservatives. In the new budget there is a lot of money set aside for amauter athletes and thier programs. These programs are things like mogul skiing and maybe halfpipe skiing if it gets into the olympics. It also means better training facilities at mountains for canadian athletes. The conservatives want to put this money into only rec programs, for more swim lessons and excersise programs at the ymca. they have no interest in putting athletes on the podium. Right now programs like Canada alpine (i don't care if you support racing or not thats not what this thread is about so don't say anything) and the canadian freestyle program are waiting on the edge of there seats wondering if they will get more funding for 2010, right now they are all happy because the budget was passed. I might be selfish (or am selfish) because im only looking at one small part of the budget and the government ( i do follow all of politics though) but amatur sports is a big part of my life and i will do anything to see that are programs are well funded and that we have canadians on the podium in whistler

^you are definitely right about where the parties want to spend money on sport. The Liberal party has put a lot of money aside for the Vancouver Olympics and they don't want to be embarrassed (kinda like at Calgary and Montreal which we hosted but didn't win a single gold medal)....for the next few years promising amateur athletes are going to finally get some money...skiing and snowboarding stand to get quite a bit (they are considered Tier 1 sports).

The Conservatives only want to put money into recreational sport in order to make our population healthier...which in tern will lower our health care costs. ...hidden agenda???

Who cares now anyway. We are kinda stuck with the Liberals for the time being. We know an election will now be held in 10 months time. Hopefully the money from the budget will be doled out before then.

I dont think that a couple gold medals at this point will help Canada be any less embarrassed on the world stage. If gold medals is what it has come down to for respect and credibility then for shame. Sports are great and all, but is it really worth that much?
