Right now i'm a junior in high school and i started skiing about 6 years ago. Since i started i have mainly focused on carving and mastering turns and shit like that. But, I've always had a fascination for park and freestyle but i had something holding me back from truly trying stuff. I played soccer since i was 5 and for the last 6 years at a very high level. I had a falling out with it and now i don't play anymore. For the last couple years i was really motivated to learn park but never did because i was afraid of hurting myself for soccer. Now that i have convinced my parents that i don't need it to get into college, i really want to focus on skiing and especially park. I have already have a park setup with blends and full-tilts so i'm set there but, i was wondering what i should focus on learning first? I can do jumps well and can ski slide most boxes. Just thought i would post this before the season starts. Thanks.

Its in your name, Butters, practice those so you can incorporate them into your rail game and your jumps.

180s, 360s, rails BOTH ways

it will save you a bunch of frustration later

After this learn front 2/back 2 off of rails! Get some grabs n shit on jumps too. Have fun out there man

I know others have said switch skiing but being able to transition smoothly into switch at speed is another much needed skill for park.

it sounds super lame I know, but learn park etiquette early so people don't hate you.

also, highly recommend learning anything at all both ways, 'specially looking over both shoulders while riding switch.

Dude this is almost exactly like me it's crazy. I have been skiing park for a little longer, I started with pretty much learning how to do rails and 360's

Thanks for the advice. I have had the goal of learning rails for like 3 seasons but never have. My goal for the end of the season is rails unnat and nat and 360 with like a nose grab both ways as well.

Learn to slide a box, then slide a rail, pretty much the same motion except it's easier to balance on boxes. Also learn 180s (and 360s?) on flatground

If you plan to learn inverts do it asap. It will only get harder as you age and you wont recover nearly as quickly.

This!

Im 21 and after years of abuse my body is starting to hurt

When I was learning how to ride switch I would try to ride down the whole mountain switch practicing turning my shoulder and perfecting my form. This helps so much for those first tries hitting a jump or rail switch. Learning 360's is huge then taking them to bigger jumps will be scary at first but it's so nice not having to throw the spin and just float it.

Park etiquette ain't lame or hard to learn

I finally started skiing park a year or two ago, it’s the head game that gets me. Try not to focus on how it’ll feel if you eat shit and focus more on how good it’ll feel to land whatever your trying
