They are starting to have to tax mroe and more in order to sustain the debt it has dug itself into. Soon the USD will no longer be the standard at which oil and other commodities are sold. The currency will fall in value in comparison to others. Since the US is a giant and bloated consumer this will make your imports more expensive. This with the new taxes (read your paycheck goes to the government) needed to keep the economy alive everyone will becomre poor. Like depression poor. Have fun!

no shit man, what's your deal Piot?? Last time I checked our economy is doing just fine and there are many jobs available all over.

You forget that the U.S. is a large country with many motivated people here. All states have their own tax code that decides how much we pay in taxes. All states are not governed under one rule.

Oil is going to be a resource of the past, and become one of last resorts. We will find more efficient ways to conserve oil. New cars are extremely efficient, other than SUV's.

The states are a good place to live man. I don't know when you became so angry towards us. It will be interesting to see what happens in the future with all countries througout the world. We are in a global community now, overpopulation has occured. All we can do is each do a small part to make things better for the future.

Er... I'm going to go out on a limb here, and predict that the barring major nuclear war in the next four years, the U.S. will never collapse, or at the very least, it will not do so in the forseeable future. However, fade slowly over a couple of decades? That's another story altogether.

I think america's economic power will decrease over the next few decades. Only because thats a natural progression as other countries become more advanced and committed to making their economies grow. The wealth will probably be spread around a little more. I don't really think it will be a big deal though.

The only immediate collapse would occur if all the oil inexplicably dried up and we hit production/price peak, destroying our economy and causing us to start a resource war with the entire Middle East, China, and Russia. Barring that, the devaluing of our currency would only bring the U.S. to the point of collapse over several decades.

I dont understand why we would get tax cuts while we go to war. It doesnt make sense to me. If you are at war you will need a lot of money so I dont get why we would be giving it back. It strikes me as irresponsible

China still has a long way to go. They have more people in poverty, then there are people in US. China's major cites are the ONLY places that are showing any growth. Once you leave places like Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, it a whole different story.

Population growth is not necessarily a good thing. China has been having huge issues with controlling the growth of their population. If the growth can't be controlled, then they wont be able to support themeless. You said India's population is growing even faster than China, give it a few more years and they will have the same issues as China. India also has a similar issues with poverty.

If anything it will be several decades, at least, if India and China pass the US. Their economies are showing growth, but they do not have nearly the current influence the our economy has on the market. It will be a long time.

^You need to think back to your History/Social Studies 10 course and remember the industrial revolution. China is finally seeing its industrial revolution happen, and its already being recognized on the G8 and by pretty much everyone as the next superpower. Think of Britan pre revolution - for the most part it is the same as china is right now on a much smaller scale. Benifits of the revolution catapulted Britian even further ahead of the world, and then sent the US to the top as the number 1 superpower. Now imagine what a industrial revolution can do with a country that houses over a billion people. Of course - with more people it will take alot longer, I dont expect china to even start to take off for another 50 years.

^ OPEC will keep won't embargo U.S it would be business suicide. The problem America is facing in the near future is the fact we cannot compete with cheap labor of large countries such as china. Textile business's in America are history as is the Steel industry. In a sense we are victums of our own success. Our labor is worth so much to our people that other people who work for peanuts can get as much accomplished. The government is subsidizing many industries who are doomed for failure. But China has and India have a pretty fast population growth which is not very good. The faster your population grows the faster you outgrow social institutions and your countries ability to deal with the load. America has a 2-3% population growth which is are very capable of keeping up with. We can speculate all day but only the future will tell.

Well I dont have statistics about this on hand but I'm assuming the U.S is at least top 3 in oil consumption if not the highest. Would Opec have say over oil in Alaska or could we just pump that if worse came to worse?

More and more of our low income labour jobs are going to china, india, bengladesh and haiti(well maybe not so much now), and high quality labour could be easily replaced by europe, and canada. The US is running out of natural resources very quickly, thats where canada comes in.

So in the end, china, EU and canada could totally fuck over the US in their time of crisis. It will take time, but its possible. Personally, i think that if you guys vote for bush because of his foreign policy, and he wins then the majority of the US doesnt care about other countries, so why should we care about the US?

Two HUGE Canadian exports to the US got either shut down completely or greatly reduced, it forced Canada to find other markets and also proved one important thing and I'll put in caps so you dumbshits understand. CANADA DOESN'T NEED THE US IN ANY WAY. If the US doesnt buy shit, other countries will. Canada sold to the US only because there was a huge market in the backyard, it was more out of conveinence. The same thing could happen with oil, grain, metals, you name it. The beef and lumber was the start, Canada simply needs to get used to finding other markets because the US isn't reliable anymore and is on the decline.

^It goes both ways, though, we import an absolutely huge amount from down there. Any problems with the American economy do have their effect on us, positive or negative. Do I think we could survive without them? Probably, although it would require massive organizational changes. Hell, we could probably be almost entirely self-sufficient, but it wouldn't be very pleasant as far as standards/costs of living go, at least compared to now. We're better off up here with the US intact and functioning, folks. Get used to it. Of course, we'd be even better off if they weren't traipising around asia minor imposing their will, but so would the rest of the world.

if you haven't noticed, the US recession has made an impact on the rest of the world (yes, the canadians and euros included). if the US were to go under any further, the rest of the world would feel it. it's like a house of cards - if the foundation (and the US is the foundation of the global economy, even with all our debt that this wonderful president and his predecessors have bestowed upon us) moves, it will effect the rest of the cards above it. i'm not saying this to be all 'oh the US is better than your country' (i'd love to live in switzerland where it's a direct democracy and they have good chocolate), i'm saying this merely to demonstrate that we're all connected and if one of us goes under, someone else is going to feel it.

Sorry but you spun this whole thing out of proportion. The proposed national sales tax would only be implemented if the income tax was nearly/completely eliminated.

The wealthy spend more money anyways so they would likely still be taxed more than the poor. This would eliminate loopholes and other things people often do to lower the tax payments. If you don't want to pay taxes, don't buy anything, simple enough.
