im a begginer at park, and i need some advice on how to do 3's. I cant get them consistent, sometimes ill do one, sometimes ill do one and land way backseat, sometimes ill only spin a 270, etc.... advice?

practice, practice, practice. and always commit.
make sure ur lookin straight over your shoulder, don't look down or up. If you do u'll cork it and chances are u'll fall

^yeah spot your landing. all i can say is get your knees bent before you go off the jump, pop hard(jump) and spin.

I just learned 3s this season, and what i did was before hitting the jump, I twisted my upper body around until I could see the tip of my ski on the other side. Then I just repeated that movement off teh jump and landed 'em! It is important to pop really hard too, of the jump, because that brings your legs up closer to your body and gives you more airtime as well. Also, once you land them good, just do 3s off everything.

hug a tree! like when you're approaching the kicker prepare to keep your balance in the air by holding your arms in front of you as if you're huggin a tree! worked for me when i was learning.

ok thanks everyone

and to wall_biker i try that sometimes (twisting around as far as you can before takeoff) and it helps me spin fast but it seems to make my spins kind of jerky... like my skis will spin really fast at first then slow way down.... is this the best way to do it?

well you do have to wind up, but you have to spot the landing to fishe the three. your body starts the rotation but your head finishes it. try and pick out something beyond the jump directly ahead of the landing (rail, box, tree, whatever) and watch it when you get up to the lip. when you spin, look for that object and stare at it. then you just have to stomp it. atleast you'll have the whole spin haha

I find it helps me spot the landing, becasue I am looking really far over my shoulder. The problem for me is when I do left side 3s the same way it makes me drop my shoulder so i go off axis a little and its harder to land.

really exaggerate winding up and once you get used to the rotation then start dropping grabs and they will start to become unpenciled

when you're at the lip of the jump make sure your shoulders are pointed down the hill. this allows your body to use that whole "wind up" just did.

that happens to me and I still have trouble with it even after moving onto fives. You really want to be pressuring the front of your boot and actually pop a little foward to even out the angle the lip puts on you. and make sure you are looking horizontaly not at the ground.

And don't use your arms to much or you will go off axis

you also might need to try it on a bigger jump or the same old jump but just go faster and land farther donw the landing

is it really important to keep your torso straight and not bent over when your just learning? thats what some people have told me to stay more straight and not go into some wierd crouch

to cover the back seat thing thing just lean a bit forward like your trying to grab right infront of your binding. do it like mid spin

everything so far sounds like pretty good advice, put what it took for me was just going for it more. bigger jumps and more speed will help you get that 360 in sync. The bigger you go the quicker you will progress. 360's are the best tricks to just throw everywhere, in an out of the park so get that dialed down and you will have a lot more fun and of course score some hot, older or younger chicks- whatever your into.

commit

wen ur ridin up to the lip make sure ur weight is forward and u pop off ur toes

then spin and look over ur shoulder

make sure your shoulders are square with the lip when you pop. So pre-wind, square, follow through over your shoulder... works every time.

dude why do a 360??? didnt u know skiing has gone to biggest spin or most flips??? style was so many years ago.

Oh i have another tip from a snowboard coach... best advice ever:

Throw for a 10 and you are bound to get something!

Also, visualize, visualize, visualize...

when i was learning 3s I had trouble even mentally getting past a 180... Its way easier when you can see yourself in your head and feel it too.

just keep working at it, ull get it. confidence in the jump helps like crazy too, the park i learned in was kinda sketch, park crew was awful about landings and that made me super gun shy about it.

good luck

i have to disagree with this method. u want to wind slightly as u are going up the lip, then pop with ur shoulders square and set the spin. then try to stay calm and not freak out in the air. look for the landing and stomp it
