Hey man don’t diss Mutiny, it’s still the sickest out ;)

Tbh not my favorite STEPT movie it has some amazing segments for sure but despite Shea Flynn being one of my favorite skiers to watch of all time you can miss me with that surgery footage and the overall vibe is pretty, like, scary haha and "omg we are so fucking hard core"

I prefer the 86 but hey that's just me

The gap between current urban snowboarding and current urban skiing is as big as the gap between male and female halfpipe skiing 4 years ago.

We have regressed. it's true and we all know it. Real skifi was just so damn hot that the bunch just had to take after em.

Burliness has dropped some but the realski vids are just as enjoyable if not more enjoyable to watch. Plus thinking realskifi influenced the bunch is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

So to OP watch all of the X games realski videos.

I didnt love the Shea segment at the time, but now looking back on it I think it's one of the most meaningful segments re. urban skiing.

To me, Shea exemplifies the passion aspect of urban. The guys who do it because they truly love it and all the surgery/crash shots really demonstrate the hardships and tribulations that result of it. Even to this day he's super under the radar, doesnt have social media or really any presence in skiing at all, but is still known to have produced some of the best urban shots ever. Watching the segment now it kinda feels like a 'retirement' edit which I think has made it age really really well and makes me even more appreciate what these dudes go thru

I agree that "the oh we're so hardcore" vibes can be super-cringy and overdone (didnt love Clayton's FIVE for example) but for someone like Shea, who IS in my opinion really fucking hardcore and was going thru some deep shit at the time, I think it really works.

Plus we gotta put on for the Maine homies!

The fact that you think the Bunch takes after Real Skifi is blowing my mind, never have I ever heard anyone from the bunch say real skifi inspired them, it's always B&E and skiers like that. Also:

haha what? How do you not see the similarities. It is the same skiing!

The bunch used to be sick but then they saw skifi and just had to pivot to hands up mode.

It's okay. Sometimes the truth hurts.

yeah I totally feel you, I just enjoy ski movies that have a more fun and upbeat vibe, that's just my personal preference though. No disrespect to STEPT one of the most game changing crews of all time no doubt

you're a jaded boomer who has little to no understanding of modern street skiing and people like you are cancerous to the current ski community.

Yeah I figured, I thought trolling was supposed to be funny though?

Some random notable events I can think of:

-Wallisch went bald

-Siver Voll came out of nowhere and now blows everyones minds on a daily basis with godlike rail skils.

-everything is expensive as hell now

-Gus Kenworthy came out as gay

-Alex Schlopy emerged from the dead and came back a new person - (would recommend listening to his story on the Powell podcast)

-Revision skis came out and quickly became everyone's favorite brand and then stole everyone's $$ and went awol

-slopestyle is now an olympic event

-gopro came out and lead to the rise of never before seen angles and shots, but also the rise of shitty POV gaper edits. Everyone and their mother owns one now.

The Big Picture! On Vimeo. With Chris/Sean Logan, PWhite, Duncan Adams, Mike King

Those are must watch edits and movie imo

I agree, I bought Mutiny on Ebay and watched it once then gave it to a friend. Personally I want to watch ski movies to get stoked on skiing and I get they wanted to show the reality of their lives in the sport but it felt really dark and I got a really bad vibe from watching it. The actual skiing was insane and on point but if your showing how much the sport is destroying you then take break or stop doing it. I get its about the progression but if your on drugs or become mentally unstable or whatever to push yourself to that point its not worth it.

couldn't have put it better myself. Clayton's part might still be the best street seg of all time though

Not much has changed op. 2013-2020 has had some progression but its not like the rate of progression in the 7 years from 2006-2013.

7 years ago pros were triple corking. Thats still the frontier today.

Damn so it really has plateau’d. That sucks about the movie scene but I guess almost everything has been done before at this point. I miss those classic movies like the Ski Movie Series, Yearbook, Focused, Shanghai 6, or High Five, best soundtracks ever. Those were the days. I lived in Banff, Alberta for 2 years and skied 40+ days each winter at the Big 3, Revy, and the Horse. It absolutely dumped and all my dreams came true in those seasons.

MSP and TGR still release high quality ski movies every year but they don't have the same feel to them as for example Attack of la Nina (btw one of my all time favourites). I can recommend "The Collective" produced by Faction. It's free on YouTube and Redbull TV. I wouldn't say skiing has plateaued. Quad cork 18 and 19 have been done, dub 14s and trip 18s are slowly becoming standard in comps and there's a lot more misty/bio variations but it's all very technical and not really creative except dir maybe Harlaut and Alex Hall. They tried a new event at XGames called Knuckle Huck this year to embrace creativity but that didn't really work cause the comp skiers are just to competitive. The concept seems to work for the snowboarders tho. As far as freeride goes it is now mandatory to do one or to tricks in your run and control is really important so if you backslap or roll down the Windows too much that will have a huge effect in your score.

Yes. Yes, we are.

And I think the proper term is 'frothing.'
