Here are some clips that I have been messing around with, I will have an Epic Reel up soon that I will post as well. If you guys have any questions feel free to ask!

well, as long as the RED is in the right hands...i've seen some god awful shit come out of a RED before.

luckily, i think this one is definitely in the right hands.

awesome shots charlie! can't wait to see the reel, and this is just making me want to get my hands on that thing even more.

Great job man. First shot was great, but I loved the second shot! Amazing! Jealous of that camera!

thats EPIC!

stoked to see some more stuff.

for $900, you can rent the epic with no lenses for a day. How much does poor boyz pay their filmers? not to be an asshole but I have no idea how a ski filmer could acquire that much spare money on their own haha

You're not an asshole don't worry. I don't know any film company who pays their cinematographers enough to buy an Epic haha ...
I was lucky enough to be able to purchase a camera like this due to some money that I inherited...

Its really hard to appreciate the red on vimeo, its also really hard to appreciate if you've never used one/used footage from one. The only thing about these two test videos is they are very underexposed to me but other than that, i think charlie was just trying to show the 96fps and 300fps features, not exactly the "wow" that the red can produce.

that sounds ridiculous, the only purpose of a red camera is to produce video images... How can you put value on something like that?

and with one post you have destroyed all your credibility.

first of all, what do you mean 'how can you put value on something like that?' doesn't even make sense really.

here's a basic example of what i'm trying to say. compare the sony FS100 to a dslr. while the image from an fs100 is undeniably better than one from a dslr, that's not the ONLY reason why it's more expensive. it's because it has features that make shooting more enjoyable (such as zebra, peaking, xlr inputs, etc.) sure you can get some of those things on a dslr, but it's not the same.

evan summed it up very well in his post, but what i'm trying to say is that red gives you frame rate and resolution flexibility as well as image flexibility that you aren't necessarily always going to see when it's posted on vimeo. charlie was obviously just messing around with the camera, not trying to create the most jaw dropping, perfectly lit shots you've ever seen.

What you clearly don't understand is almost impossible to explain until you use a red or red footage. But, nevertheless, i shall try. The red looks like film, it looks real it doesn't look like video. The color reproduction, the skin tones, the contrast, its fucked up good. There is just something about a shot from a red that is unique to other cameras, even cameras at its price range. Ive used shots from a studio with a red and it literally looks like you're looking into a 30" window that is placed on a desk in front of you. Sure, the red produces an amazing image but there is so much more to the red then just the image it creates. Color, tones, contrast, sharpness, etc are so much more than just the an "image" that is produced. Among other things, 4k and 5k resolutions combined with up to 300fps at 2k is another completely none-image related feature that only reds can do. Like I said before, there is just something about the red camera, its amazing. But, that's what 28-58k for a body will get you.

But, i wouldn't really expect you to know anything about this since you only clicked on this thread because you decided to meander into M&A cause you were bored.

hey so like whenever i use twixtor in all my edits i can do that exact same thing for like 1/100000th of the price.

but seriously, im stoked to see that reel. congrats on the purchase.

i guess you couldnt notice the sarcasm.

thats why on the next line i said, "but seriously"

i really need to lay off on the sarcasm on the internet. it never works.

No, you are.

He 'meanders in here', as Evan likes to say it, and asks a (not too smart) question. Next thing, every noob in here starts flaming him and acting like a douche, simply because they can't tell why a RED is so much better and different than your average cam.

Will and Evan then give good, normal, explaining answers, he THANKS them, and all you can do is type 5 words that make no sense because you're to stupid to use interpunction.

Good job, you're an asshole.

The second shot was insane btw... Damn...

Minus a higher framerate, THIS red footage does not stand out. I've seen vimeo footage that makes me go "wow" from a red camera though. I wouldn't look at these shots and go "wow that certainly couldn't have been shot with a prosumer/FS100/etc."

Post the reel when you're done though, I want to view some beautiful red footage.

Um......isn't that the whole point of a camera? That's like saying there is so much more to a car then how it drives.

I'm sure the epic can produce amazing footage in the right hands, but if it just comes out alright half the time, then it's not anywhere near worth the cost. Unless you are filming for cinema, I honestly think that price tag could go to much better use.

Again, that was the point here. The second shot's color is horrid IMO and the "tiltshift" effect isn't doing anything and its under exposed. But god damn the motion of that plane is outrageous.

once again, charlie was just messing around with the frame rate. doesn't mean he has to produce big budget quality shots every time he shoots with that thing.

and i wouldn't consider frame rate to be related to the image it creates necessarily. that's what i mean when i say there's more to the camera. you can use it to create the image you want to create. you can change the frame rate to get hte perfect speed for your footage, you can change resolution to fit your workflow and the project, and maybe you're shooting on RED but need an image to look shitty? the flexibility of the red raw files will allow you to dial in the look you want. so no, not every shot that comes out of a nice camera has to be drop dead gorgeous. but the beauty of it is that a nice camera gives you the tools to create the image you want.

what if a car drove really well in one gear but you had to drive in that gear all the time? likewise, if the RED produced an amazing image but only had one frame rate, one resolution, and no image flexibility, it wouldn't be nearly as awesome imo.

yeah ok tijmen... IM THE IDIOT... i understand you want cred, but dtf basically said the same thing and your not crying about him sooo..........

I agree with everything but this. The RED most certainly looks like video to me. It's just gorgeous video. Unfortunately it has nowhere near the dynamic response (not range) of film. Not that it's a bad thing; it's just a different tool.

About RED cameras being "more than the image:"

It is essentially designed to bypass every possible flaw in the current camera workflow. The format, codec, modular body, and everything in between is designed to flow flawlessly. RED as a company offers benefits and priority to its previous alumni customers. The parts are interchangeable and built with military ruggedness. It offers resolutions that don't even have a use yet, making it future proof.

By Tom's analogy, the RED isn't a car that "drives well." It's an amphibian. It's a ship that can drive on land, float on water, fly in the sky, and when the demand allows, travel into space. Furthermore, it all comes at a price that is relatively feasible for what it does.

Does anybody NEED a RED? No. Nobody in the theatre seemed to notice when Black Swan showed 7D footage. Are there better uses for $70k? Arguable. But that doesn't mean the RED EPIC's price doesn't justify its (many) benefits.

I feel like it isn't my place to post this, and additionally it should have it's own thread, but I more or less nutted in my pants when I saw this.
