Beaver Creek?

Yo, this year im gonna go for the first time to go ski in the Northern Hemisphere and i got a job in the Beaver Creek Ski School. I know its a top notch resort but other than that i dont know much more. I know keystone and breck are reaally near in terms of awesome parks. And Vail is also around the corner, also i will have the pass for al of the Vail Resorts. I dont think im really gonna have the opportunity ski very much at these other resort but overall, what are your impresions of Beaver Creek?? park, nightlife, cool places, ppl from there, BC, ect.

thanks

also im looking into buying a pow ski, and dont know if its SO completly worth it as i dont really have much money. I got some shity park Salomon Threats.

Armada JJs 185? im really looking to get those, what ya say?

Beaver Creek is IMO one of the most underrated resorts. I love the park, there are tons of fun glades and mini lines around the place. When it snows there are some amazing lines only a short hike away and even inbounds.

I would think you could manage with a single ski quiver (Blends/Fujas or something) on 98% of days if you are staying inbounds. You'll prefer them in the park to threats and in the pow they'll be fine. Thats my 2cents anyway.

yeah I fully agree with everything that has been said.

I was there last year and the snow was sick - found some killer tree zones and if you do a bit of hiking you can find some unreal areas. Some pretty sick cliff zones too if you time the snow right.

If you are into park, the park is pretty damn good too. They have a park for all different levels, and the jumps in the big park were perfect when I was there.

Great all round mountain. Yeah it's true though - the nightlife isn't that great but there are sooo many milfs to enjoy!

also, there's an amazing game restaurant you should check out... i'm blanking on the name but if there are any locals here you will know what i'm talk about - I wen't with my friend and she's a local. Serves the most amazing game, kind of a cabin, and has street signs all over inside....

hahah i was reading to my dad the Beaver Creek reviews from NS and when i said MILFs he asked me what that was, when i explained he told me thats he is gonna have to come and visit me haha

Thanks dude, but really im looking into getting a really good rockered pow ski that can float nice in pow and will get me though the crud fast and under control.

then i might buy a good park ski.

is there any Liberty ski that you guys recommend? a liberty for Pow days?

Skiing is amazing. It's far less crowded than Vail and has a lot less decent skiers, meaning more pow for you. Check out Stone Creek Chutes for your cliff hucking/pillow needs and then head out the BC gate above Cinch lift for some stashes long after fresh dumps. If you really want to get ambitious you can get some big mountain lines/chutes by hiking upwards from the Larkspur lift.

I would say beaver creek has to be one of my favorite resorts. There park is understated, there is a bunch of good tree skiing, and there are some decent cliffs.

As for skis the JJ's would be perfect for you.

i would agree with most everyone here, really fun park and lots of great tree skiing and fun cliffs, i would definitely consider something like the jjs, you'd have a lot of fun on them

Totally off topic but I noticed your sig and I was wondering if you could help me out. I'm looking into a pair of the RMU apostles as my one ski. Would you recommend? Maybe a different model? I'm don't do much park but I'm worried that it will be too fat for icy days and too skinny for those Epic Tahoe 3-4 foot pow days. TIA for any advice, i've been having trouble finding info on RMU.

Beaver Creek is my favorite place to ski. Lots of chill people, more of a community feel up there since its a tiny resort. No one skis there during the weekdays so you have the mountain to you and your friends, which is awesome. No lines in the park and nothing is ever bombed out. Also, lots of good powder skiing since as someone already said no one ever skis up there. Lots of rich people so they stay o the groomers or go inside for a $10 hot chocolate since they don't like real skiing. But its a good resort town to work in because you will be thrown some bills if your good with your customers. And every other resort is within an hour away. I think you'll like CO

Thanks guys every comment i read just makes me get more stoked for going !! so im probably gonna figure out what ski to buy once im there and start making some money.

I've never had a problem with the kids, they are cool in the park and what not. It's the 45-70 year olds that get to me.

Hello Again and thanks for all the good responses.

I got to more questions:

-whats the cheapest ways to go from Denver Airport to Beaver Creek/Vail hopefully early in the morning??

-Anybody know of cheapish housing in the Beaver Creek area? because so far i dont have housing...

Thanks in advance

ill go to beaver alot, during three day weekends great park pipe could be cleaned out a little more, no park lift though so it takes like 20 min for a lap if ur lucky. the biggest issue is that it is clogged with rich snooty teenage girls that dont know how to ski and a bunch of little kids sitting on the knuckles. and the super hard runs always have moguls on them, waaaaayyyy to many moguls there. thesides that its awesome.

1) I got the Colorado Mountain Express, it seemed pretty decent priced but the exchange rate was in my favour so most things felt cheap.

2) I lived in Avon, if you don't have a car then its a good option because theres a gondola from there to beaver creek. If you do drive, maybe you could find somewhere in Edwards?

Get some Double Helix's or some Genome's son. Buy Local! And if you work at the ski school here at the beav you should talk to us.

Thanks, I will definitely do that !

Also I was looking in Colorado Mountain Express and from the Airport to Beav it costs "*92.00 per person one way"

but from downtown its "*39.00 per person one way" which leaves at 7:30 am

So I was wondering what is a cheap way to get from the airport to downtown Denver?

I didn't read the whole thread, but you should definitely consider buying pow skis if you're living by beaver creek/vail.

As far as the JJs go, pow skis are either a hit or miss. Some people like the 5 dimension skis, while others, like myself, don't like the way that they ride. If you haven't rode a ski like the JJ i would atleast demo a few of those style skis before you just up and buy them. It depends a lot on the style of the rider. If you like to bury your tips and rip a pow field the same way you'd ski bumps i'd recommend a different ski than the JJ. But if you're looking to surf the pow and stay on top effortlessly, the JJ sounds like a good ski for you. Again, it's just my opinion and everyone's different.

Also i know the FIS World Cup is on right now in Beaver Creek.

Anyone know hoe the snow conditions are in the Eagle County?

Beaver Creek is my home mountain so sick. conditions are very average right now, if not a little below. hopefully some snow will come soon!

All you need to know is Birds of Prey is one of (if not the) steepest groomers in North America. Nuff said.

Yes buy the JJ's

Oh and find the football fields at the Beav, pretty rad.

this. ive been there a few times. going down to colorado again, really want to find some of those lines. usually just stuck with the park, which are super sick.

Inbounds there is some great stuff in the stone creek chutes including some decent sized drops.

If you want to find stuff out of bounds, best bet is to talk to the locals, they are super friendly and one group took me out and showed me some spots. I'd feel bad publishing them to the entire internet though.

BC is underrated in many ways. It has some great slack country stashes that offer fresh days after a dump. Football fields has already been mentioned but there are loads of others.

One thing that is in common to most of this terrain is fairly tight glade run outs that get firm. Fully reverse camber skis are great in fresh but make such terrain miserable. I think that a ski with a bit of regular camber under foot with tip and tail rocker will serve you a lot better for BC than a pure reverse camber ski. They'll give you almost all the fun of full reverse camber in the soft but still be fun on the run outs.

As to which ski would be best; it depends on your weight, style and preference. Rossi S7s are a great ski for a resort like BC as long as you don't plan on riding switch. Also, for real deep fresh S7s won't come close to a bigger fully reverse camber ski like Kuros. Volkl Kuros are the bet pow skis I've ever ridden, just don't expect to land or ride switch on them unless you're very brave and/or stupid! Also, the Kuros truly suck on even slightly firm snow, they are not a good resort pow ski, they are a pure backcountry pow ski.

Also worth noting is that fully reverse camber skis will be hell for those five minute or so traverses/treks that Vail in particular offers a lot of, especially if you are breaking trail.

I'd recommend a pretty fat ski with rocker in the tip and tail but regular camber under foot for your pow ski for BC. CO powder is very light and a ski that might float you easily in heavier European pow may not deliver in CO. If you want to ride/land switch in the soft then size and float becomes even more important; a nearish symmetric sidecut wil help a lot.

I haven't ridden JJs or Genomes so can't comment on them. I mentioned S7s and Kuros not because I think they'd be the best choice for you but because I've owned pairs so have an idea of their strengths and weaknesses.

There is definitely something to be said for buying skis from a local company, if you have any problems with skis from the likes of Liberty, they will fix it. Skilogik is also local being based in Breck. I've got a set of their Depth Hoars; might be a bit overkill on size for you. Your wants sound similar to mine but I weigh about 220lbs so Depth Hoars fit the bill for me, if you a fair bit lighter then you'll have a lot more options.

Thanks man, I think the Liberty Double Helix might be the way to go: Fat and early rise and tip

Also anybody know of "affordable" living in the area? anywhere near by in which i could get to Beav in the bus?

^This is a dumb post.

Everything that's said is correct. Beav is better than vail (as far as inbounds terrain is concerned).

Free FUCKING COOKIES AT 3PM.

I googled that and it seems so fucking cool hahaha i cant wait !

anybody know about affordable housing?

really fun mountain i go every febuary and am never dissapointed. the trees are sick there especially on royal elks glade that shits crazy! for their park it is pretty fun and there are very few park skiiers so lapping is super fun

I ski Beaver Creek all the time. Its one of the most underrated mountains out there. Make sure to check out Stone Creek Meadows for some amazing pillow lines. Part of Rainvills segment was filmed back there for Refresh. And now that Rosebowl is a high speed lift it will make for some quick laps.
