Heading out to Beaver Creek next week, going to try get in a day or 2 at Vail also.
Just looking for some recommendations. I hear great things about the trees at Beaver Creek, anywhere specific I should go? Any good areas that I should hit up during my trip?
Also, anyone got any food recommendations? Reasonably priced that is..
Any advice is appreciated, thanksall.mountain

Stone Creek Chutes in Beaver Hands Down i usually always ski at Beaver. Also check out president Ford's Glade it's sick no one goes on it so there is quite a bit of powder. PM me for any more questions about beaver. Also Food there is no where cheap on the mountain or in the town but go down to Avon youll find some good pretty cheap places there.

I sat at a picnic table and had lunch with Rudy Giuliani and his wife outside of Spago at Beaver Creek 3 years ago.

seems like beaver creek is a hott spot; when i was there they told me tiger woods was there like 2 weeks before

Disregard beaver creek and go to vail more often. Just go to the beav first, so you aren't disappointed with the size of beaver creek

everyone says stone creek chutes. but half the time it's tracked TO SHIT so it's not even that fun. blackbear glades can be fun, but it seems everyone goes there and stone creek first on pow days.

my personal favorite areas are the trees skier's right (but right next to) of the birds of prey lift. skier's left of the run peregrine basically. Three tree gully off the larkspur is a short but fun aspen tree run that NO ONE ever goes to so it's always fresh unless it's been sitting in the sun for days.

skiers left off of grouse, royal elk glade is pretty neato, and you can go through some gates and you can get some good pizza turns in on the powder(im a ski blader so i usually try to stay out of the powder to keep my jeans dry)

Stone Creek Chutes for pillows, cliffs, and steeper lines. The trees to the right of Peregrine for narrow skiing and fresher snow. Also check out Royal Elk and Black Bear Glade. If it's not a great day, BC has some good side country. Try hiking the bald face, its about 1-2 hours through the gate at the top of Cinch lift. Be prepared with full avy gear and knowledge if your going to do this. If you don't have gear, try traversing all the way across royal elk to the gate, and looking for fresh in trees. Beaver also has some nice terrain park setups. It's smaller and doesn't have the terrain that Vail has, but Beaver is less crowded and is more likely to have left over pow multiple days after a storm.

yep stone creek is the place to be. may get tracked, but still super fun. at the upper stone creek gate, hang right immediately, staying next to the ropes. then make a few turns and you'll find like 40 feet of gnar in front of you. but srsly in stone creek you're hard-pressed not to find the gnar (pics on mi profile..) beavercreekextreme.com used to have stuff...but it doesn't seem to exist anymore? idk my computer won't load it. as for vail, i think BC is a little more fun, northwoods is fun. check out prima cornice for some steeps and gnar. also check out the dragon's teeth for some fun, mellow drops. good practice.
and as for food, don't miss the FREE COOKIES at the beav. they are warm and delicious and given out at 3:00 by ski school at the base.

First advice is DON'T listen to this guy.

The beav has my favorite park set up of any of the resorts, mainly because you can hit 3 of their 4 parks on a 2000 foot vert run unlike keystone or breck where they have a dedicated lift and you have to choose what park you wanna go into.
Stone creek chutes A+. Best terrain inbounds in eagle county. Whoever said it gets tracked out is somewhat right but that means you just have to drop in earlier. There are upper and lower stc and the upper stays fresh for days.

How difficult will these chutes and trails be for someone who has never really skied trees/real pow? I'll be at BC and Vail from the 24-1 with my brother and dad and we were thinking about demoing some fatter skis and trying to find some stuff like this. I've been out west a few times, but only stuck to the groomed stuff and maybe a little bit of park. It's been a few years since I've been to Colorado, and I'm a much better skier now and want to try something new. I'm from Michigan, btw, so it's not like I have tons of opportunities to do this kind of skiing haha. If the stuff you guys mentioned will be too hard, is there something more mellow you could recommend that still gets some decent snow? i.e. no cliffs and stuff

depends on how good of a skier you are. fatter skis will help but only rent them if it is 6+ inches or a couple days in a row of that. BC doesn't get the flow like vail does you should be able to find powder right off the lifts for the first hour or 2 if it isn't a weekend. There really aren't that many cliffs in bc unless you go looking for them:) You will find to in powder steeper is better because it keeps your speed up and a flat powder run= working your ass off to get out

yah, when I was there, there was an igloo at the top of one of the lifts with a string quartet that had instruments made of ice.

I consider myself a good skier, but the extent of my skills consists of ripping gs turns on groomers, since I live in Michigan. I've skied like a foot of fresh once on some Bent Chetlers, but that was also in Michigan, so it was flat and slow. Soo I'm not really sure where I stand as far as anything but in-bounds groomed runs go. I'm pretty confident that I could hold my own on some steeper runs, but getting in trees and tight runs makes me a little nervous since I"ve never done it.

Flow as in people?

Yes I agree with that.

As far as the stc are concerned I would deffinately rent something 105ish waist for a day if there is any fresh. And if it dumps then get a powder ski.

STC is pretty challenging but you can always scoot around the cliffs. In short you really can't get cliffed out unless you really try.

Most of the cliff band is about 45-50 degree slop and is moguled out if its a bad snow year, aka not this year. So it should be pretty good. I always drop in asap to the area when the lower stuff gets tracked out.

Truthfully it is one of my favorite areas I ski or rather used to ski. It will challenge you without a doubt as you can go as big as 60 feet in some places or you can hop off pillows that are only 2-3 feet in vert.

Enjoy.
