Beats Studio alternatives

Don't know whether to put this in M&A or NSG, but whatever

I am in the market for a pair of over the ear headphones. I love the sound quality and comfort of the Beats Studios, and they also have some sick features, but I don't want to spend $300. Do any of you guys have over the ear headphones that have great audio, are comfortable, but don't break the bank? Thanks...

You'll probably want to specify these thingsAudio source and bitrate

genre(s) preferred

any types of sound signatures you like (more bass, recessed mids, sharp treble, etc)

if you care about looks, portability, noise leakage, do you care about soundstage, etc etc.

But for an all around alternative to beats a lot of people like the audio technica m50s. There are however tons of different headphones that can be better suited to you than those (heard a lot of good about the beyerdynamic line, dt770, 880, supposed to be a good set of closed cans). You can't really recommend one headphone that suits all since everyone has their own personal preferences. For example I listen to a lot of rock and like the forward sound of grados, but some people despise them for being too shrill (treble high) and too much mids. I could recommend them if you share the same taste as me but they're definitely not the right match for everybody.

My brother bought the audio technica ATH-M30s, and as a casual listener (like I imagine many people who buy beats are) they sound good to him. Not as clear and open sounding as I would like but they work for him. Very portable.

Once you consider other monitoring/high end headphones theres really no reason to go with beats other than their looks (bose as well).

+1 to ALL of this.

I also just posted a sale for my Ultrasone PRO 750 if you're interested in a high-quality, true-sounding set (not tuned to be bass-heavy like Beats and similar).

Thanks, +k. Is there a difference between the ATH-M50 and the ATH-M50RD/ATH-M50WH? They are a lot less on amazon, but I cannot find any difference.

You could probably search on audio technica's site for those different models or on headfi or another similar website. Don't know offhand. But I'd recommend making a thread on headfi explaining your situation and seeing what people there have to say, there are a lot of people there who are way more knowledgeable than me

My favorite brands are Sennheiser, and Grado. Grado is not an especially well known brand, and their headphones dont noise isolate (so you have to listen in a quiet space), but the sound quality is absolutely unparalleled in anything I have ever listened to.

I just got the V-Moda m100 and they are awesome. Super comfy, tons of features like kevlar cables and really nice sound. Similar price range to the beats but on a completely different level, cause beats suck.Definitely check them or some of the other V-Moda line. PS they also look better than beats.

Another thing to note if you're on windows is to try out WASAPI, because the sound quality with that compared to the normal volume mixer is way better
