Beatport sales chart : the death of dubstep.

Since i am from europe i dont know all the artists from chicago :) (but i am aware that thats the place were it all started)

but they do sound verrrryyyy good!

What part of Europe? I am familiar with lots, Raoul Belmans of swirl people fame from leuven Belgium, inland knights and the littlemen from Nottingham UK. Phil Weeks from Paris, Rob Mello of music for freaks from London, there's endless European house and techno legends.

Yeah shitty beats with a sax wildly playing over it seems to be what the public understands as deep house. It's really a shame that those uninspired tracks get more sales then creative stuff. Not saying that having any saxophone in your track makes it bad, but most producers are over doing it. The sax should add to the beat not carry the song on its own.

Strangly people go crazy over this form of "deep house"

I hear you on the sax trax getting tired. I used to bust my buddies balls all the time because every track he dropped had a sax in it lol. But, the saxophone is a true instrumental sound giving classic timeless feel to otherwise monotonous digital overtones. It's really all how the producer lays it out. I have been completely over trends like acid or disco than a producer reinvents it in a new more relevant manner. So, I never close the doors to anything per say.

That sax has really started to get on my nerves. It was good, at one point, but now it's getting really monotonous and boring. If you can make it work, then by all means do it, but I haven't heard it in a while.

That sax track slays. Garantee drop that in my set and it would get asses shakin'. If you can't groove to that your already dead. ;)

I go to shows with 50,000 people packed into a small arena, push my way to the front and then let loose

I can see where you are coming from. And I'm not saying tracks with a sax in them are automatically bad, there is some I like. The problem I have with those tracks is that there are so many of them and most are just the same formula (simple beat + sax). If every track in your set has sax in it and it takes the meaning away from it and just gets anoying. But: Drop a tastefull sax track at the peak of emotions on the dancefloor and people will loose their shit over it, because the sayx suddenly stands out and creates a new vibe.

Yeah I agree, the sax doesn't carry the song on its own, nice track.

Here's two tracks which overuse the sax and make it boring and a bit anoying as well. (not gonna embed since we're kind of thread jacking here haha)
=27

It just sounds the same to me.

Not a huge fan of sax trax, but when I think of sax, Laurent Garnier's classic Man with the Red Face immediately comes to mind. This was one of the first songs that hooked me onto techno / house and I will always love it.

Not sure how to embed with replying, so I'll just do that.

Have you ever been to Dekmantel or ADE? I've heard legendary things and am thinking about making the trip overseas next year. One of the best experiences of my life was a trip to Berlin to visit legendary techno clubs Tresor and Berghain last winter, so I'd like to visit a new city/country and go to a famous festival/club.

Yoooo you got into berghain? I was in Berlin a couple months ago but we didn't even bother trying. Went to one called Weekend which was unreal though. Partying on top of a 17 story block til 6am is highly recommended

never been to dekmantel but have been to other parties in ADE. There are festivals like dekmantel in amsterdam every week, so if you want to come in the summer you are save to go to a festival :).

and if you want to go clubbing in amsterdam you should visit trouw, but you have to be fast because it will close in a few weeks. its a small version of berghain wich is open 24/7.

LAS, Gantz, Mikael, Kahn are all crazy.

TMSV deserved to be on that list for sure, love what hes doing.

Thelem is killing it, actually I like the direction J:Kenzo has taken Artikal in general, seems to be getting out of that dungeoney stereotypical sound Kryptic Minds started that got beat to death.

EshOne is killing it in the states, as is AxH.

And Ive been playing a ton of that jazzy stuff from Deep Heads, Mindstep, Chord Marauders, etc.

Find it funny that Killawatt is on there, dude has already seemed to head the techno route, hasnt he put out a bunch of stuff on Pinch's techno label?

Dubstep is very much alive and will stay that way, but without all the crap and hype. Like it better that way anyways.

Yeah, all those guys are killing it. LAS' EP is insane (especially Lesson, such a tune), and I'm pretty sure he has an LP coming out (possibly on System) which should be equally as mental if we're going by his previous dubby stuff (https://soundcloud.com/lasvain/nestori-vuorilla-on-maa-las). Gantz has an album coming out too, which is immense. Mikael's EP on Innamind is sick, also...eugh, it's almost all too much.

I think what I'm most excited for though is the Kahn and Gorgon Sound plates coming on Deep Medi. Kahn is just ridiculous - I can't get enough of those big dubwise, sound system vibes at the moment

Yeah, Thelem definitely took a while to gain some traction, but Haunted Harmonics EP was very impressive - big things from him. Artikal is doing very well for itself - stepping away from dungeon needed to be done.

Killawatt has always had that real rough techno tinge to his music, in my opinion, though nowadays it certainly is coming through a bit clearer (re: Threads EP). He has a very impressive range of work actually, now that I think about it..

Dubstep is without a doubt alive and kicking

I like the mark knight & funkagenda mix of that track, but I have just discovered it recently, because I was 6 years old when the original came out in 2000(right?)

I tried to get into Berghain 3 times, was rejected twice and made it in the last time. I guess it sometimes depends on who the bouncer is. The first two times I went really late after going to other parties, the last time I went right at the beginning of the night. I was literally wearing the same exact thing too. Thankfully that was the New Years Eve party which went for like 3 days, in total I was there for about 40 hours (with naps in betewen).

haha fuck man, 40 hours in there must have been so intense. its so hit or miss for going in though, i know people who've got in who you wouldn't expect to have and people that you would expect to have got in got rejected, for practically no discernible reason

I'm game for that. I'll start with an oldschool techno legend /favorite green Velvet, guy has been rocking crowds worldwide for over 20 years and definitely has his own brand of techno his 30 minute weekly mixes all absolutely sickhttp://m.soundcloud.com/green-velvet-1

Noone cares that you listen to techno

Says the trendwhore flocking to an obscure genre that died a decade ago because vice told him to. Sorry, but no one cares about happy hardcore anymore. Techno on the other hand is still huge

green velvet/ cajmere is so good live. so fucking intense though, i saw him at a festival here a few months ago (along with kerri chandler, among others) and i was so destroyed by the end of the day (he was on last) i could not handle the crazy lights and filthy techno. was still an awesome set though, would see again in a heartbeat

He's relentless. Just keeps coming at you and by 3/4 of the way through his sets your mentally and physically exhausted, a true fuckin legend. And he's such a offbeat off centered individual. Very unique interesting person. His legend is cemented permanently in djing like Seth Morrison is to skiing.

I don't know what the difference between any of those genres is.

It took me many years. I started to listen to dance music (we'll call it that) in 1992. I really didn't understand specifics about genres until I began to dj around the year 2000. People like to argue about genres and most people don't know what they are talking about.

A bit bummed about the LAS album on system haha, Im too broke to afford vinyl so wont be copping that one. But im sure itll still be massive.

Any idea who is releasing the Gantz album? Ive heard rumors but not what label. Innamind maybe?

I think the Gorgon plate is remixes of Late NIght Blues and Dread which will be sick.

Hopefully Over Deh So is on the Kahn release, love that tune.
