Beating a dead horse here, but I hate high gas prices...

To everyone sayin "quit bitching im in europe and i pay $9/ gallon"...I think you are being very very ignorant. I live in rural Pennsylvania, and the closest GAS STATION, let alone TOWN, is a 15 minute drive away. Using public transportation is simply not an option.

Current gas prices in my area are $3.80/ gallon. It costs me $45 to fill me tank (98 Saturn) and I average 35 miles/ gallon. That might not seem bad at all to many, but you must realize, minimum wage is $7.25/hour. Thats means i have to work about 7 hours just to fill my tank. I commute 240 miles/week for school, and between that and driving to work, I need to fill up twice a week. This means I have to work 14 hours a week, just to have enough money for gas for school and work. This does not include having any extra pocket cash at all, whatsoever. When you go to school and only work part time, it is really, really, hard to pay what I am paying for gas. I am lucky to have $20 bucks a week to get by on, not including gas. So thats $20 bucks for food and everything else I need to survive.

If gas prices over here get any higher, I simply wont be able to afford to drive to school. And I will be using every dollar I make at work, to drive to work. Im sure others on here can agree with me.

So you think that in every country across Europe, where at least in the Western countries gas is way more expensive than in PA due to the high as fuck taxation H8CH mentioned, there aren't any places where the nearest gas station, let alone town is a 15 minutes drive away?

Talk about ignorance right back at you.

*ITS OBAMA`S FAULT BECAUSE HIS NAZI COMMUNIST WAYS MAKES GAS SO EXPENSIVE FOR THE AMERICAN FAMILY!!!!! HE SHOULD BE IMPEACHED FOR NOT DOING ENOUGH BECAUSE HE IS A LAZY BASTARD.*

Ok, shut the fuck up. People should stop blaming government for everything. Gas is fucking expensive in Quebec. In Quebec City Gas is steady at 1.34 and 1.36 cent a liter. Last week it hit 1.399. Here is a easy solution: drive less!

cant stand it when people blame prices on obama, not that i support him by any means. anyone remember july '08 $147 all time high for oil. who was president then....BUSH everyone seems to forget that. enjoy voting for the lesser of 2 evils in november, remember its just an illusion of choice

1. If you believe Obama had anything to do with higher gas prices you are dumb.

2. We won't start to use serious alternatives to oil until we are extremely desperate and oil prices have skyrocketed.

this is true. speculating over futures prices for crude oil drive the price per barrel up now. my dad is in the heating oil business and has seen insane fluctuations in oil priced over the 2 or 3 years. he checks the futures prices daily, even several times a day. another thing that keeps the prices up is oil and gas suppliers keeping the prices high for a little bit longer, even after the prices drop. they milk every last cent from the consumers. with prices constantly rising, companies have to maintain their margins, that's business. it's really hard to place the entirety of the blame on the obama administration. no matter how bad we want to, we can make foreign oil suppliers sell us oil at a lower price. shit happens. i've seen some people on facebook say that we should "flex our american muscle" and force these suppliers to decrease prices, but that's ignorant.

That was the point. The first part is on an ironic tone to simulate the over angry Obama hating redneck. At the same time I critisize they type of argument. The second part is more of a opinion/statement.

I was just in Turkey, don't remember exactly what the prices were but a quick Google search tells me they may have been pushing 9.50-10$ a gallon!

This is why I love NS. I never said shit about how far people live from gas stations in europe. Im sure there are plenty of people who live even further than 15 minutes from a gas station. The point I'm trying to make is to everyone saying "oh just walk or ride a bike or longboard or take public transportation." Its just not that easy.

And besides, across the pond you all tend to drive a lot of diesel vehicles, which average 50-60 mpg compared to our petrol cars that average significantly lower.

And before anyone else bitches, I used to drive a Buick. This was during the golden years of Bush where oil traded for $150 a barrel and gas in PA was $4.19 a gallon. My buick averaged 18 mpg. Needless to say, my litle 35 mpg saturn really saves me a lot of money, but even then, it can still be hard to make ends meet. Unlike 85% of NS, I'm not rich. I'm actually pretty poor at the moment.

This is why I love NS as well. You failed to make your point by making a wrongful comparison about "people in Europe" bitching about gas prices instead of just saying that your situation doesn't really allow anything else than a personal vehicle.

I don't know anyone who drives a diesel, especially these days when the before much cheaper diesel fuel was more affordable even with a ridiculous diesel tax here, but now diesel is the same price as petrol, plus the added tax. Talk about a kick in the balls for those enticed to invest in a diesel car.

Exactly. And seeing as we pay about twice as much I don't see how you're poor. We pay 1.80€ a liter. Converted to dollars that's over 9$ a gallon, so stop whining.

Where... The Netherlands has the highest gas prices in Europe (and possibly the world?). We pay 1.5€ exactly for Diesel. You're not confused between the differences between gas, diesel, fuel and all that?

How do you think I feel? I drive a truck because it's all I could afford at the time and anything I could get now would get just as bad gas mileage.

Failed to make my point? The entire point of my post was to state that my situation, and the situations of many other Americans, does not allow for anything else than a personal vehicle. I think my point was pretty clear.

lol, already had you at 0/10. Go figure

What don't you understand about the shitty comparison that there are many places in 'Europe' just like so, but the gas prices are closer to triple of what you pay?

lol, already had you at N/A. Go figure

My 4.0 L v8 Lexus gets 14 mpg in the city and runs on 93 octane. $65 gets me ~220 miles...However... IM STUNTIN LIKE A BOUSSSSSSSS.

Fuck the European shitboxes that are all about the size of a chevy aveo!

AMERICAAAAAAAA!!!!

If I drove a bus... this would be me...

mike-o, what you are not understanding is that I never made a comparison to the prices of gas in "Europe". I referred to those that have posted in this thread, that live in Europe, who were telling kids like me to quit complaining because they pay a higher price than I do. I was simply referring to the fact that all they said was take public transportation or walk.

All I was trying to do by posting in this thread was to point out that it is not as easy as everyone keeps saying to just walk, or ride the bus, or bike, when you live in a situation like I do. And i'm sure those who live in a similar situation to mine, regardless of what continent they live on, would agree with me.

You cant even post on NS anymore without getting called out by some pretentious d-bag

"To everyone sayin "quit bitching im in europe and i pay $9/ gallon"...I think you are being very very ignorant. I live in rural Pennsylvania, and the closest GAS STATION, let alone TOWN, is a 15 minute drive away. Using public transportation is simply not an option."

You didn't refer to anyone saying anything about walking or biking, but you did mention public transportation, sure. You referred to, as seen above, people in 'Europe' paying more for gas than you do, SPECIFICALLY. You can go back to those posters and see how many people from Europe said anything at all about walking, biking or taking the bus... ZERO. Go ahead and look.

Who is the "pretentious douchebag" here, really?

goddamn dude. who is the pretentious douchebag? you are dude. your reinforcing my statement. your taking the internetz way too seriously. congrats, you won an argument on an internet messageboard. like i dont really know what else to say but fuck, people like you are the kid in highschool that everyone hates because they walk around acting like their farts smell good or something.

so congratz, you won the internetz. I'm sure you'll respond to this, even though the argument is over, calling me out on spelling or grammar or some shit. I'm sorry that your real life is pathetic enough that you have to come on here and swing your massive e-cock around

bonus points for mike-o. someone get this man a CIGAR!

I'd just like to point out to everyone how right mike-o is, all the fucking time, incase you havent realized it for yourself yet.

Is there some kind of filter we can dl so we can only read mike-o's posts? they are obviously the only ones that are right so it is really a waste of time reading anybody elses

The fact that you are in the wrong and contradicting yourself in this case doesn't make me right all the fucking time, no? You say wrongful stuff, someone says you're wrong, your feelings are hurt, deal with it.

And Pandaman, naw, this is too fun.

How can you have him at 0/10? Guys one of my favorite NS'ers.

And @Mike-O I love how you write internet with a capital I - why you do that?

It would certainly help if the liberals would let us drill off the Atlantic coast and in Alaska. As much as people tend to think we NEED to rely on foreign oil, we could be a lot more independent without all the ridiculous environmental regulations. The Keystone Pipeline is a great example of liberals ensuring Americans dependence on foreign oil.

I'm pretty sure the whole idea behind the Keystone pipeline is an easier way for Canada to export its oil around the world, so how does that help us?

paid 4.53/gal for diesel yesterday....$100 fill up + $15 in fuel additive.

diesel could be $10/gallon and i'd still drive as much as i do now....fuel is a small expense when compared to the overall expense of owning a vehicle

you're using the wrong gallon

If it's £1.35/litre then that's £5.11/US gallon

which is $8.09 USD/gallon

It's still completely outrageous, but not as bad as $10/gallon

Here in Ottawa gas prices are just below $1.30/litre. So pretty much $5 USD/gallon

Considering this is where the US imports most of it's oil and gas from yet here it's more expensive there is something fucked up going on.

Allright CALCULATION TIME!.

As of today a litre of Euro 95, (Regular common petrol) is 1,813 €

1
US gallon = 3,78541178 liter.

So 1,813 * 3,78541178 = 6,862951557 €

1 Euro = 1,32 US Dollar.

6,862951557 * 1.32 = 9.06 $ Per Gallon.

That's what we pay in the Netherlands for regular petrol.

90% is tax......damn you America.
