Beartooth Basin Needs You

I'm broke and don't have time to make it up there this year but hopefully next year. Was gonna go camp and help with the slopestyle in 14ish but they didn't have enough snow to open. Some day I'll make it there. Place seems rad.

Seems like they needed money to reopen the main lift, but it looks like they are asking for extra to spruce up the place a bit.

1) LIFT MAINTENANCE: We are replacing the gearbox on our top lift (Lift #1). Without this piece of equipment Beartooth Basin cannot operate. Doppelmayr manufacturer costs + labor - $35,000 (this is crucial)

2) INSURANCE: Each season our biggest upfront expense in operation insurance. Just like the big ski resorts – we have to have a high insurance policy and have a licensed engineer approve our lift operations. We have never had a claim, but the cost to play is high! $8,500

3) FUEL: BioDiesel purchase from local BioFeul source (Full Cirle Biofuels in Bozeman MT): We are committed to making a positive change and using renewable energy to stoke the fire of summer skiing/riding. $5,000

4) SNOW SURFACE MAINTENANCE: Pisten Bully SnoCat rental (contingent on our funding). This is an essential tool for any ski area. The Pisten Bully would allow us to provide groomers and perfect terrain park features. $10,000

5) TERRAIN EXPANSION: We are permitted for 2 additional surface lifts – and we are planning to get another lift running in our lower ski terrain this season! This of course comes with operation costs and installation to engineer requirements. $7,000

Thanks for posting this, Beartooth Basin is a bad ass place and I think many of us would like to see it stay up and running, just donated some myself.

Fuck ya! Place is magical. Def thought the ski community would be rallying around this a bit more. A bit surprised guys like T Hall that grew up shredding this place have not been more vocal.

Damn I didn't know Thall grew up shredding there...did he grow up in Montana? Anyway, I just moved to Montana and plan on going there as soon as it opens. Will donate as well! Beartooth helped my buddy make turns for 36 straight months (ridiculous)

I can't take #fuckvail and #bailonvail people seriously.

these are the only people worth taking seriously. Just like someone can choose not to use plastic straws. I choose not to give vail any of my cash.

Yeah, Vail is the only corporation and everything else is unicorns and rainbows.

Vail is the only corporation in the ski industry that just sucks unless you’re a dentist from Texas.

Vail, boyne, whatever. All the big players suck. There are some little guys in Montana that are basically unicorns and rainbows. Affordable family owned small hills that arent trying to suck every last dollar out of your soul.

There are a bunch of small hills that are run pretty shitty. Idk. Pros or cons to every mtn/company.

Yes because Montana is the last humble, half-decent place left

any inside scoop on 2020? I'm sure everyone is jonezing for some ropetow laps since the season got cut short, could be a great year for them to make some money if they're able to open.

ON3P isn't doing a slopestyle and no other word on the beartooth season.

I doubt it this year.

Sad but prolly true. Sucks cause I dont do many summers and one they didn't open cause of snow. Someday I'll make it there. Even to go for the comp and shovel and rake or push some snow around would be dope.

I missed last year and was totally bummed I did not end up going. I really hope they open this year (given that spring skiing has turned into spring site inside).

With the pandemic, that seems unlikely.

Montana's actually opening up quite a bit. 10 of the 16 deaths were all contained in one nursing home. I think they are jumping the gun a bit with reopening but I hope they do.

True, Montana's curve is actually pretty good. And Beartooth is remote enough it might not matter - but do they really want people coming in from all over the country? That's the problem. And if there is an outbreak at Beartooth, that's a real problem.

I hope they open but personally I'll wait and see what the situation is and how things in the usa play out. Would be sweet to make some turns there eventually.

Also got a call from my boss in Australia yesterday. Just saying if there's a chance things open up they'll shup me back but seems suoer unlikely. Really just hit me in the feels about summer skiiing.

What the fuck did they do with the money? Seems like they took it and ran.

They opened up under some super adverse conditions (Covid, low snow) and ran the lifts til the snow melted out. I got up there and it was the best 3 days I've had since this bullshit started in March.

I was thinking about them when I was driving across MT. Figured theres prolly not much there gor snow now, and my knee is fucked anyway
