Bear Creek

^^ yes you're right. but you're better off skiing killy all day. I believe you can ski from killy to pico so you don't even have to get picked up.

I could be wrong but I believe that connecting trail between pico and killy has always just been a pipe dream. Last I was up there you couldn't ski between the two. I mean perhaps if you knew the AT well enough you could do it like that but it wouldn't be pretty. I have hiked from killy to pico on that but I wouldn't wanna ski it.

I know a local dude up there who knows everything about killy though, he's on here and I'll shoot him a message to double check. Pico is pretty good ways down the road though.

copy and pasted straight from my dude up at k-mart.

"There is a groomer access trail that can be skied in alpine gear from Pico to Killington. It runs from the top of Pico Peak and runs down to a maintenence garage just below Ramshead base on Killington Road. There is a smaller groomer path through the woods that links it back to the main trails on Ramshead.

I threw a marker on this link:

The plan is still to connect Pico to Killington with new lifts and new trails in that ridge between Ramshead Mountain and Pico Peak but there is still critical infrastructure upgrades that are needed at Killington before they can move on to expansion. American Skiing Company really ran the infrastructure into the ground in the 2000s.

The game plan over the next few years is to complete the build on the new lodge at the top of Killington Peak this upcoming summer. Then move on to replacing the Snowdon fixed grip Quad with a HSQ while reusing the fixed grip quad to replace the South Ridge Triple which was removed during the summer of 2011 as it was all but condemned at that point, haha.

The interconnect would be next on the list of priority projects at that point and would coincide with the building of a residential and commercial pedestrian village where the Snowshed Parking Lots are right now.

As for timeframe, who the hell knows. It'd be a MASSIVE capital investment, but the base lodges at both Snowshed and Ramshead are sorely outdated and are lacking hugely when compared to the competition.

All said, I'm happy that it is nothing that will happen in the immediate. Last thing I want is for Pico to be Killingtoned.

:P

Blue has a freeride program for a whole season, weekend, or even daily rates with their freeride team or they offer lessons privately through ski school. I coached for a season at blue and would continue if my schedule didn't conflict.

That being said I am a certified instructor as well who still loves to spread the stoke...

Sorry for plug, can't wait to get back to bear for a bit of redemption. Going to probably just sit out the big air this year though...

I'm a grad student at Nova too, grew up in Allentown riding BC. Hit me up if you ever wanna hit up a PA mountain this winter.

Yo dude, I'll hit you up after the holidays. Hopefully we get some snow between now and then.

Props on the Terrapin Station avie.

Anyone been to Bear Creek yet this season? Website says 8 rails and 1 jump on Black Bear right now. I'm thinking of doing a Night Pass tomorrow (Sunday) for $34 since paying $62 for a full-day pass on that mountain seems ridiculous.

It's a real small jump in the morning and tends to become a roller by mid day. Not a ton of snow to work with yet and this week looks like hell for temps so get it tomorrow while it's decent. Check your inbox braah.

I'm currently bruising myself badly on the rails if anyone is here. No pain no gain right? I feel the progress coming ever so slowly.

Anyone been there lately? Thinking of heading up for the college night pass just wondering if it is the same set-up as a few weeks ago. Warm temps probably did them in so I'm guessing no new features and probably no jumps.

Think again. Set up is new for sure.

Got two small sized jump but the lips are real wide and they float pretty nice if you hit em with the right speed. We got a couple different features out since the set up a few weeks ago. Arbor rail is out, fdf, wide box tilted on like a 45 angle for some variety, long round bar is set up low and kinda hippish with an angle on one side. lots of different stuff out. You can check this thread over on PASR for some pics and more info.

They were blowin hard last night when I left at ten to build up snow on the park and the rest of the mountain for that matter. I think I heard talk of a rail jam this weekend too but you might wanna check the website or bookface on that.

I was real happy with the set-up last night. I hiked the flat-down-flat and the skinny flat rail right next to it like 4-5 times each run.

Also attempted 3 backflips off that first jump and hurt my knee pretty good but I'm hoping it's nothing serious and I'll be back in a week or so.

I think you are right, Rail Jam is the 27th I believe on the signs I saw driving in and Big Air is some time in February. Can't wait to get back there I enjoy BC more than Blue Mt just cuz the park is so accessible for hot lapping.

Oh my god man, were you the one hiking the jump for the backflip??

We were watching you from the yurt, that looked pretty bad man. Way to huck it though.

Haha yah I'm guessing that was probably me as I didn't see anyone else on the mountain really throwing anything down off that jump. It hurt like a bitch, did one more run and called it a day. Bruised my knee bone pretty good so I'm taking 7-10 days off before skiing again and gonna try backies on the Air Bag at Blue Mt before putting it to snow again.

No pain, no gain.

Could have picked a better night man, the ice on that landing was bulletproof that evening. ski patrol had to give a kid a sled ride down like a half hour before you started trying those flips. If that lip had a little more pop or if you just had a bit more speed it looked like you would have had it clean.

Glad to hear all you hurt was your knee, those falls looked pretty bad. We were seriously sitting there watching with a radio waiting to call ski patrol if you got hurt haha. It was entertaining I'll give ya that.

Yah man I asked a couple kids that looked like they knew what they were doing if they thought the jump had enough pop for a backflip and they all said its iffy and the landing is rock solid and wait for a better day.

Against their judgement I decided to huck it though. I think you are right, I knew I was coming in a little too slow, not sure why I didn't pick up the pace. I wasn't popping as hard as I needed to either. Next time I'll have it nailed down. The knee is already healing faster than I expected so I could be out as early as next Monday (Wednesday more realistically).

Love BC's set-ups though -- if you are serious about it you can lap the park so many times and just hike features for hours.

Blue Bear or whatever it's called has a nice 3 jump line followed by 3 sets of urban rails. Cascade has a bunch of various rails but no jumps cuz they have an Air Bag there this weekend. All in all the park is nice, I am going back tomorrow.
