Bear Creek

bear creek is my home mountain open day varies from year to year ex this season they didn't open till after newyears and other seasons they opened in early december. other then that its a tight mountain park is usually prime and a good amount of skiers.

i'll be hitting up bear creek this winter at some point. i go to villanova and need people to ride with

nice. perhaps i will see you there. i currently (currently) can't do any freestyle tricks. there is time to learn when you are 14....

Fun place for sure. It's my home mountain as well, worked park crew there the last two years and hope to do it again this year. Shit weather last year but the park was still fun as hell once the season got rolling. I heard tom's working on some new things down at the BC ironworks.

You of drinking age Peter?? BC bar "the Grille" usually has some tasty ass micros on tap.

Oh yea, just for about the last decade or so haha. Don't worry it's overrated. Ya end up spending questionable amounts of money at the bar, going home with questionable women, and if you're lucky ya don't get arrested in the process.

naaaahhhhhh just kidding, being over 21 is pretty damn awesome. All in good time young sir, all in good time. Enjoy the teen years while ya got em.

At least you can eat shit off a jump and it won't make ya fucked up for the next two days of work.

meh not huge but there were some decent ones last year. Blue or bear would probably both have comparable jumps. Someone from blue with no doubt disagree, but I'd say last year we had a couple in the 20-30 foot range and once our big line had enough snow to make bigguns I think the tubing hill jumps were in the neighborhood of 40-50 or so. speed can be an issue sometimes due to conditions as bear is a little farther south than blue, but it's still pretty much the same I'd say.

Bear held multiple comps last year though, where as I don't think blue held any. I could be wrong though as i don't ski blue, one of their locals could probably confirm or deny that. Bear's park crew manager does a pretty good job of organizing several fun events though, don't know what he's got in store for this year yet but I'd bet he's got some stuff in the works.

Bear has less vert and in that respect I think the management recognizes that a major draw for them is the parks. Where as blue seems to still have sort of an old school skier mentality, I've never got a speeding ticket at bear creek I can tell ya that much haha.

wow really? at big boulder i saw some pretty big ones but i only saw probably 5 people go off of ithem and only 3 of them actually landed. a lot of kids in PA think they got style by wearing flashy junk, then they fall on the first feature i see them hit. i saw bear creek's "big air" (nothing close to big) and the best i saw was maybe a double backflip. thats okay, considering how small the jump was.

i'm glad my family heads up to killington VT once a year. Last year we were lucky enough to be able to go during the dew tour. that was pretty sweet, but pretty crowded. i emailed killington and they said it won't be back in the east for another year or two, sadly

Opening day is hard to say for anywhere in PA. I usually ski blue and I think its better than bear in that there is a whole run thats park. Its much longer and has only about 2 features next to each other so lots of hits lined up. That being said, bear is a super fun place to be and a good atmosphere as well as blue, but their park is better maintained by a little. Both are the best around here. But if you want to learn stuff blue has a MUCH better small park to learn on at least last year it did. And if you want to just ski too like take a long easy run while working on switch stuff blue is better. Either way they are great mountains and good environments to learn. In my opinion i prefer blue because of the options it has. and it tends to open earlier and stay open later, even so they will sometimes accept bear season passes if bear isn't open.

boulders jump last year were nothing compare to what they were in 09-10 and 10-11 season. With seeing kids wearing flashy stuff in the park and falling don't judge after watching them hit one feature FYI a hucked double back flip not a real trick thats more like i need to win so i'm gonna send it and hope i land on my feet. And i bet you were throwing mad steezy tricks of the dew tour jumps when you went there with your family.

yess. you have to drive to ski... 45 minutes minimum for me, spring mountain is the closest and it is okay, only because its so close. it gets boring when i go with my friends. poconos is 1 45 mins for me and well worth the trip. if you really want to do some big east coast skiing, new england is the answer. resorts with 150+ trails with some runs nearing 30 minutes. but bear creek isn't the big, but not one hill one lift. the terrain park is alright, and there are only like 10 trails total. i might get a season pass there, ski like everyday after school, and become better.

40 minutes worth it, for me.

Drive down??? Like literally south?? I hate to say it but if I lived farther north I don't know that I'd drive down to bear creek. If blue is closer to ya it might be a better bet for you.

Well I live in Scranton so I'm north of bear creek. Sno mtn is 5 minutes away from my house, but it's a real shitty mountain and elk isnt far but there isnt really a park. Bear is the next closest mountain to me I believe.

haha check your map man, there are a couple mountains between scranton and bear creek. BC, boulder, and Blue are probably the three best parks in the poconos though. Well BC isn't really poconos but you get my drift.

Oh shit you're right dude I'm way off haha, but thank you I'm definitley going to check out blue and BC this winter.

No worries man, I've been skiing this shithole state for 20 years now. I've been to a few of the hills the poconos have to offer and a lot that the northeast has as well. Hit me up if ya have questions about anywhere.

It takes 45 min to get to elk from me. And sno shouldn't even be considered a mountain. It's a pure shithole.

a i can't judge it very well because i always went there on our last ski trip of the season like march 20th, thats 10x worse. half of the trails open, one terrain park open and being used for a rail jam......and it was quite muddy.

for me, skiing is skiing in the longrun. obviously quite a difference when you compare one small and one huge one, like comparing spring mountain and whistler blackomb. most resorts in PA are around the same size though

cant wait till this season :D

Pretty unrelated, but seeing as how it seems we're all within driving range of each other... we definitely have to have an ns sesh

I was supposed to last year. This year I might go up with a few of my friends over Christmas break. Then I might go in February, but I'm not sure yet due to the fact I'm supposed to be going to Germany in June and the trip costs like 4 grand

I'm getting stowe-ked in January. Also hitting the bush on that trip. Killington in march. Damn I love college ski club

I try to do vermont like once or twice a year. The bush and Stowe are super sweet mountains. Stowe is awesome but expensive, they have a great attitude at that mountain though. Tons of woods to explore too. The bush has great glades too in between the two mountains.

I'm hoping to get up to Jay this year and possibly magic in southern VT.

We should do a NSer session at BC, I'm not much of a park rat at the ripe old age of 31 but I'm on their park crew there and the park manager is on here as well. We could make sure things are tip top and maybe even goof around with some of the features for you guys.

I'm so down for the NS session!!

fyi i'd love to see a double barrel dfd, an elbow rail, wall ride , another candy cane and maybe even a close out to separate the men from the boyzzz

I'm going to vermont all christmas break. Then my school goes to vermont in Feb. for three days. But instead of going the second time with the school, I'm going to Germany in June for 2 weeks with a club from my school.

Being at the ripe old of age of 18 and never having gotten the opportunity to ski outside PA, I am beyond stoked to hear that about those mountains. To boast a little bit, two days at stowe and one at Sugarbush for 260. That includes lifts, transportation, lodging, and the bus fees and crap. Oh and also two dinners and three breakfasts.

We haven't come up with an exact price for Killington at the end of the season, but I think that it'll be somewhere around $100 for (I think) 2 days on snow.

Bus trips are a great way to get after it. I'm in a local ski club outta bucks county so I try to get on a bus at least once a year with my pops since he taught me how to ski. We're doing a long weekend up to canada this feb. It's always much cheaper and much more fun going with a big group like that, I'm sure you guys will all have a blast.

Never been outta PA huh, Oh Man you are gonna love it. It's such a different experience skiing Vermont rather than PA. It ain't out west, but it's still pretty damn good.

Lemme know if ya actually end up at Killington. I know a guy with a condo there and will probably be up once or twice this winter. I could show ya around a little, that place is pretty retarded big. Pico down the street is worth a go to if it's still on the same ticket these days.

^Ah oh my god I think I just messed myself I'm so excited for this season!!! I'll definitely let you know if I end up at Killington. Stowe is in January, I believe.

killington is do able for a weekend trip, last year (senior year in high school) my friends and I made multiple weekend trips to killington. Leave Friday after school 3pm get to rutland by 10pm ride saturday and sunday get home sunday night around 11pm. Its that easy kids

^^ and if you have balls the size of watermelons you can actually camp on the appalacian trail right next to killington for free in the winter. It's cold as fuck but it's completely free. Hell if you're real ambitious the AT goes right up and over killington. I camped in the summer once right next to the snowdon quad in the woods.

Just a little fyi for broke college kids that can't afford $100+ hotel rooms during ski season.

Bring a good 0 degree mummy bag though.

thats so sick! my friend and I were wondering if there were any good camping spots. I forget the name but there is a seady motel that we stay at in Rutland and mid season its $55 a night!

I think we stayed at a super 8 in ludow it was sketchy AF. You gotta check out fat tony's ( i think thats the name) its on the access road to killy best food out.
