Beachies Classic cliff jumping jam

So here's the scoop. Cliff jumping is a touch and go kinda sport. We do it for fun and it's relatively random when you show up at a spot. There's no real organization to it at all. What I wanted to do was organize a day this summer when all the crazy local cliff jumpers/divers can assemble and tear it up. You feed off other people's energy and it would be sick to gather all the unknown crazies out for a day.

So I want to hold a little jam/comp at Lions Bay this summer. I've been kinda lenient to July 9th as the date. My only concern is nice weather. It's gotta be gorgeous out for the event. The farmer's almanac says it'll be sunny 'early and late july' so I'm not precisely sure what day to have it. But I have been very partial to July 9th so far.

It'd be a very informal comp, I'm talking to people to try to round up giveaway prizes to those who throwdown, but mostly it's going to be about the glory, not the loot. I'm going to get my boys to roll out their boat and load it with speakers to rock out to. Bring out the BBQ and cooler. It's going to be sick.

Anyways, I just want to hear some thoughts about this idea and if July 9th is a good date. I want to start putting up flyers around some spots (brohm, lynn, one duck, etc) and I need to confirm the date in the next week. Spread the word soldiers.

oh dude, i thought you meant a ski cliff jumping comp. like see can huck the biggest or gnarliest one. sounds cool anyways. last time i read about people cliff jumping and their friends watching from a boat, the guy ended up jumping on the boat and dying

^uh, well, you should probably try to avoid the boat at all costs. Seems like the kind of thing that would kill you...

I'd come out and jump off stuff and have a good time. I won't be competing, but I'm up for a good time and some cliff jumping. And beers after.

I 2nd, loins bay, that is the best spot with in vancouver that i know off,

we could have a comp, even thought james would win,

$5 a head, winner buys a mini keg...

The Beachies Classic will definitely happen, but the date probably won't be on July 9th. The farmer's almanac is a little iffy about the weather around then and I think we would like more time to organize. There won't be any money involved, frankly I just want to get a huge crew out there and huck. I'll post as I get things more together.

 
I'd be there, but I've never jumped a cliff in my life on anything but skis so participation might require some drinking.

no it's way easier than skiing. Zero skill required. It's the kinda like the snowlerblading of diving, except that anything except jumping is actually hard to do. But jumping? That's the easy part. triple twisting double flips? hard.

Oh, just so that everyone knows, the Beachies Classic is still going to go down, just sometime later in July. We're in the process of getting some flyers made up. Keeps your ears and eyes open.

Brohm is the best place for the comp dont do it a lions bay it will not bea as good of a location as brohm. caust the rope swing can have a jam format comp I think I will be ther on Tuesday the 12th

^^ the disadvantage of brohm lake is that the cliffs and the rope swing are a five minute walk apart from each other. the brohm swing is better, but it lacks a diving board and the cliffs aren't as big either. at lions bay everything is centered in one spot. i bet you haven't seen the new crazy hammock there yet either. lions is where its at for sure. i just put up some signs at brohm and lions yesterday to inform peeps. it's going down. i'll post the pic of the flyer up here later tonight.

rain or shine, all day long. i'll probably get there early in the morning to set up and will stay until sunset. and if any of you have a boat, i was scoping some other cliffs a bit northwards that i'd like to check out sometime.

ps - i was just there yesterday, jumpin nude in the rain. awesome. and the hammock is way chill.

it went pretty good. alot of people had to bail because sunny saturdays in july have many competing events ( i heard of 5 seperate weddings and some sports tournaments ) but there was still a good showing and went well. bbq, tunes, cooler, boat, wakeboards, all came out. didn't get going good till late, but was killer once it was going.
