Bdog X-games

what do you mean no one can judge style? i can judge that phil has a lot more style than bobby, elias, and just about anyone else that was at x. his whole run was style. he isnt about doing whatever it takes to win, he wants to prove to everyone that he can get on the podium without doing the same dubs that everyone else is doing.

and to all of you saying that he had to huck the 12, i garuntee most of you havent thrown a 12 with a dub japan grab. its not like leading the spin with a mute grab

the x games is about the technicality more so then the style

he cant expect to win with what he does just because his technicality isn't as good as the others... however this raises the issue of how stupid king of style is

its supposed to be a competition of style which would be more phil casabons kind of competition and he would have a great chance of winning if it was truly king of "style"

no let him do what he wants his runs are the only ones i actually watch and edollo and him are the only reason i even watch slope in between their runs i almost passed out because of over dub exposure but they know how to keep it fresh and it's the best to watch

definitely agree.. i still dont understand why everyone is so intrigued by his style when his jumping prowess really isn't anything special... so he can do a few tail presses, how does that establish him as on of the most stylish? idk :/

Hahahahaha I loled so hard when I read this. But honestly despite uncle e's annoyingness, he makes the event somewhat interesting for someone who has no idea what going on or never watches freestyle skiing.

Like when he said Elias Ambul rymes with cool. Just little things to keep random people watching entertained

They should make a new x games/dew tour-esque competition in terms how "big" the event is, however instead of judging solely on who can throw a better dub 10 mute, judge on style more than spin to win. Have some good announcers (Luke Van V and not Uncle E) and some judges that know a thing or two about style as well as technicality. Also have a rail jam event

i mostly agree, but casabon's run, though sick, was definitely not the hardest a run could be without dubs.
that's the glory of the whole thing. slope runs can be tech as fuck without double flips. there are different rotation patterns that only a few people have explored, and then you can do those things spinning both ways and with different grabs. what about nollie misty things like delormes? or nosebutter corks like vanulars? multiple grabs like rainville (mad props to kenworthy for trying mute to blunt dub corks, that was so ill)?? double tail blunts, opp tail blunts, sammy-pokes but with truckdrivers, or same side true noseblunt with big flatspins? screamin grabs like laurent favre? ANYTHING like laurent favre?! flips and big spins onto rails with grabs like candide. that flat down box that only schlopy hit was just begging for it.
guys, skiing has gotten so stupidly tech in ways that have NOTHING to do with how many times you spin and flip! the fact that everyone writes those types of things off as style tricks drives me nuts. they are just fucking hard, and that's why no one tries them. and the risk is higher. how is that not technical progression?
and to everyone that weighs in with the ultra-cop-out "guys come on this discussion is gay/played out and doubles are gay/cool/whatever", you should probably go fuck yourselves. if there is anything worth discussing on this site, it is how technicality and style are related and how we should consider technicality in competitions. this is so much more important for skiing than 'TALL TEEZ ARE FOR FAGZ' or 'JOSSI IS A FAG FOR TIGHT PANTS' type discussions.

this. I have to watch and work at the same time. bdog, hh and sammy are the only riders I make sure to see everytime. Russ, Andreas, Bobby and the rest can fucking throw down no doubt, but their style just doesn't make me want to drop everything and shred. Obviously not everyone in this thread shares my feeling, but that rainbow rail press phil did everytime was the best part of x games for me. It was like, that's fucking what I want to do. Not 4 on 6 out, not some shitty 270 on to off balance exit most guys were doing. Just a simple fucking press that's harder to make look good than anything else.

dont know if anyone has said this yet but casabon di one of the nicest dubs I have ever seen in muddy winters. dub 9 truckdriver.

gimme a time in it where he does dub. i didnt see one in that edit and i just watched all 13 minutes of it.

like i said can i get a minute and second? i dont wanna watch the whole middle section of that episode again.

So what if I thought that Bobby Brown has a cleaner style than Casabon? What if I thought that Casabons "steeze" looked forced?
Then I would have a different opinion about what is stylish than you. Who the fuck are you too say what looks good and what doesn't?

a double is when the skier's feet go over the skier's head twice correct?

i would just call it a cork 9 truck. still sick tho.

PLEASE TELL ME SOMEONE ELSE HEARD THIS.
during slopestyle, they showed a 'mega mo' of Bdogs double japan grab. Douglass said something to the effect of, "now thats a really techincal grab, not easy to do" and the other announcer said the following. this is a quote.
"Well he's a nimble little minx isn't he?"
hahah what the fuck?

fuck all you pussy's. you guys can suck a fat dick if you don't appreciate the fact that Casabons better than any of you will ever be and that he doesn't need to do another gay ass dub to be the sickest muthafucka on sesame street.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

I'm a let you know what I think, yes I do know I will not win X-games or any other comps without throwing a double cork and I am fine with it at the moment, until I am not. These X-games was not my best performance, wasn't my day, happens. The role I am playing in competition right now is showing all y'all how different lines can be taken and showing the possibility that you don't have to throw double flips to make it up with the best "comp skier" of our sport. Every comp this year so far I have been taking different lines (as possible as it can be done in my head) that none others have been taking and this is why I chose freeskiing, freedom to express myself and be unique. My goal in skiing is to try to create a payful outlet to people that are concentrating on filming video segments and webisodes, that are pushing the sport and putting as much efforts as any of the "comp cats" but that are not nearly as recognized by sponsors, such as Nimbus, TC crew, C.A.S.G, GSL, Ahmet, Hornbeck, Delorme, Downey and Wiley for a couple exemples (much more). This way we can have more people doing their thing and not focusing on having to do certain tricks to get recognition and results and it will make our sport grow that much more… but I can't do that without money and I can't make enough money without competitions at the moment so I do my best to maintain in both.My vision of park skiing (and bc when i have the occasion and right skillz) is just like skateboarding is in a concrete skatepark, matching tranny's, flowing lines, doing tricks, and shit is the most fun for me at the moment… i know keystone has that kinda park right now and probably other mountains as well where you can make everything match together from side to side, front to back, without stopping. This is my vision, not yours, so you can agree or disagree but whateva man… stoked on skiing!
Inspired!
Peace

Yeah, I heard it as well. The tone of his voice when he said it.... It was so 'wrong'. Douglas was like "...heh, yes he is."

So are you saying that you would let the principle of not doing a dub get in the way of potentially winning comps and earn money?

I take it you didn't watch any of jossi's jumps during big air? It that's not steezy I don't know what is.

Can anyone post a video of his run? Im pretty sure that sw 10 truck was pretty much a dub, or at least wobbed out. Pretty much the illest 10 ever done.
Keep doin you B

couldnt agree with you more mane. love the shit you do and wish that people would just realize that dubs arent everything. the flow and style of a line are just as important as the technicality of the tricks in my opinion. your run at x was prolly one of the sickest thing ive ever seen and i think that you were able to combine flow, style and technicality perfectly and i think that you at least should have gotten third.

mad respect man

man guy is soooo sick , soooo talented he could learn dubs in a day if he felt like it , but he obviously doesn't want too,,, right now anyway,,,, and he is so damn fun to watch as a skier, fucking unbelievably good. i dont even think of the word double when i watch any of his segments / edits, doesn't even come to mind as it is being blown away by his style.

haha, seriously?

yeah, it's obvious that he can earn money from not just winning.

but he said the main reason he does comps is because he can't make enough money from just making movie segments and sponsor stuff. if he believe that he's able to learn dubs, it would be a lot smarter to do so because then he actually could win comps (and make a lot more money). which again could lead to being able to not do comps and focus more on filming.

i just think it's weird that he won't do dubs just because of the principle of not doing it, when he would earn a lot more money if he stepped up his game in the dub-cork scene.

ever hear of having fun? some people love skiing so much because its fun and not because they want to win comps. if you're not having fun then you've got no motivation to go out there and actually ski. he can dub flip, its in a fucking edit but in the end its about him doing what makes him most stoked to put those skis back on day after day. you've got no idea how much these guys ski and at that level, you need the strongest motivators you can get.

hey guess what.

FUCK THE X GAMES. shits made for marketing anyway obviously it isn't the best comp we've seen so why do you guys bitch about it

if he could throw a better run, i'm sure he would, regardless of having fun or not. and when he stated that the reason he is entering comps is because he needs money, it's obvious that it's not just for the fun of it that he's doing it.

that being said, people can win comps/do doubles, and still have fun. i'm sure casabon can do that too.

and also, i can't think of one skier that loves skiing just because of winning comps, myself included.

this is retarded. let him ski his way, thats what makes casabon's skiing so enjoyable to watch. you all care way to fucking much.
