I'm looking to purchase some skins for some 179 fujatives and maybe seth vicious'. what sizes/brands/suggestions do any of you have?
 
wat kind of bindings do u have on ur fujatives!!???

wat is wrong with u? y would u put AT bindings on fujatives?!
 
Look into some skins around 110mm for your Seth Vicious'. I have some Black Diamond skins and they work really well, so check those out. But don't just limit yourself to one company, look around and see what other people are using and go from there.
 
rossi 140s, they arnt touring bindings or whatever, but I think I'll be able to manage and still be able to use the skins efficiently. I saw the blackdiamonds on the internet, they looked pretty sweet.
 
Yeah I dont know, You think its completly pointless then? You dont think I would be able to still use them a little bit? I feel like if my skis would stick I could walk up hills fairly easily.
 
psh I cant afford both, especially a new pair of skis to put them on. I was looking for cheap skins on ebay(like 20 bucks) now I'm hearing I have to spend like 200 bucks.
 
first off, your not gonna get cheap skins on ebay for 20 bucks. you might find em, but its gonna be way moer hassle right from the start because there going to suck. your just gonna get more pissed during your outing because you spent the time to get them and put them on and ahg, just dont do it.

although diffrent people have diffrent opinions, contrary to popular belief, you dont have to have shaped skins. that means skins that match the shape of your skis. get them at least wide enough to cover underfoot, but it dosnt have to cover the whole entire tip. thats nonsense.

as far as brands go, any major skin company wont let you down. whether it be G3, BCA, BD whatever, its going to be quality shit. although sense your rollin with twins, make sure your back clip is going to work well enough on the tips of your tails.
 
hahaha^ no there meant for hiking, there attached from tip to tail of your ski and then you attach another piece to your binding and your skis turn into temporary cross country skis, skins are really nice but you only need them for long traverses and stuff like that

for a good pair with the binding attachers itll run you down about 130-170
 
hahah are u fuckin kidding me you are a fooL! have you never heard of trekkers

if u want to get skins you want to first know the size of the fattest part of your skiyou cannot have one pair of skins for 2 skis and here is why .

when you purchace the skins you are going to want to cut them so they fit nicely around the entire base.

you are gunna wanna get some fatter than the tip of your ski, remmber it is better to have more than it is to have less

once you cut them down to the shape of your ski you'll be set but remember you are gunna wanna get yourself a pair of trekkers before you set off on your adventures, if u dont you will quickly find out why.

in my mind the best skins as far as qualiry goes would be either G3 or BLACK DIAMOND. they both have really good traction and last people a long time.

but remember if u are going to be venturing off into the BC you should really consider taking some avalance rec courses so u know what you're doing, and always always make sure u have the right gear.

keegan - that kid was saying the alpine bindings would defeat the purpose of skins....so he was actually right...

As far as skins go - get the BD Ascension skins with the STS tail.

Ascensions skins are much better than the G3, BCA,etc.

Get the STS tail too. the clip fix sucks.
 
I'm gonna have to agree with AKfreeride, you don't need to have skins that are totally shaped to your skis. I have 90mm G3s for my mojos and they are the shit. Not only is a narrower skin lighter, but it's alot easier to take care of and they match up better with each other catching less crap in the adhesive. Oh and treckers are great, a much better value than AT bindings, plus no need to redrill your skis. ONe thing to think about though with a ski like the SV that has roundish tips like my mojos, you might want to be a 'skin end piece' on the tips to help keep the skin from sliding off, I had some problems originally with mine
 
BCA's have a wide mouth that fits the viscous just fine, I have naxo nx14's on my SV's and they rip...fuck using treckers, extra weight, bulky, anyonnying to pack on the way down, suck for side-hilling.

But if your looking for a ghetto BC setup, buy an old AT ski with fritchis on e-bay and enjoy your skiing much better than wasting money on old used skins and conventional binders
 
first thing to learn, the BC is not cheap to start out. You need a beacon, shovel and probe at a minimum, if you want to skin you'll need skins and trekkers (or AT binders). Trying to hike up hill without a free heel is nearly impossible. If you buy skis Get them for you seth viscous, why take the fugis into the backcountry? With that in mind get something in the 110mm range, 120 would be too much money for not enough benefit. Also get something with a tail kit. I Have the bd ascensions with the sts tail kit.
 
I was talking about trekker bindings. I had a friend who had them on his PEs and he was hittin up the park and stuff, he doesnt have them anymore so I dont know exactly how well they worked. I know what skins are, I was just curious if it would be extremely wrong to hike up small hills and stuff without trekker bindings. and I dont have seth vicious, I was just curious as to size difference and what you would want for different skis.
 
I really dont believe you should be in the backcountry at all. First your looking for skins without having a AT binding or even knowing what an alpine trekker is. Second you dont know why you woudlnt be able skin without freeheels. Third you probably dont have a beacon, probe, or shovel if you not willing to spend that much money on new skins and alpine trekkers. Your going to end up getting somebody killed. If you havent taken an avy course yet, I advise you to before you step outside the resort.
 
every place out of bound is avalanche prone..please educate yourself. i think your time is worth more than your life. if you think differently go ahead
 
I'm going to have to agree with everyone here now and say DON'T GO INTO THE BACKCOUNTRY. With an attitude like that you're just going to get yourself killed, and that doesn't just affect yourself. When you get your ignorant ass buried in a "non avalanche-prone area" you're going to have search and rescue busting their asses to find your body without a signal from a traciever, your family will probably be devastated, and the entire ski community in your area will be pissed at you for being stupid. Make some commitment and take an avalanche course, you clearly need to be educated.
 
Yeah, I would like to take an avalanche course, and they offer them at shasta but at the moment I am too busy to take one, but when I say non avalanche prone areas I mean backyard hills and stuff.
 
skins? i think he means like the graphic, if you do man...skins are like changing the appearance of a gun or something on an online game
