Bay Area Police fatally shoot restrained man with video proof

This makes me fucking sick.

"In the early hours of January 1st, BART police shot and killed a 22 year old man, Oscar Grant, on the platform of the Fruitvale BART station in Oakland. Witnesses report that Grant was "lying on his stomach with his hands out in a non-threatening position when he was shot". Police have confirmed Grant was unarmed and have suggested the shooting was an accident. Grant lived in Hayward and leaves behind a 4-year-old daughter.

BART officials have not released the name of the officer who shot Grant. After the shooting, BART police seized several cell phones from people on the platform who said they had used the phones' cameras to record what happened. For the first two days BART officials told the mainstream media that surveillance cameras at the station do not record, but then corrected themselves Friday night saying the cameras did record but didn't show the incident. That cop publicly executed that guy, disgusting. There is absolutely no reason to shoot a man who is lying face down surrounded by so many cops. Even if he was reaching for something, they could have easily stopped him without killing him.

I couldn't agree more. There was ABSOLUTELY NO reason for him to draw his weapon or fire it. This is absolutely repulsive. That was an execution, there's no way around it.

FUCK cops wow wtf. That was so uneccisary. I dont get it why the fuck shoot someone who is clearly able to be controlled REGARDLESS of the threat. He shot a man that had absoutly no threat to the cops

"bart police"? never saw one when i went to school in the bay. and with no car, i was riding bart and caltrains a bunch.

public transportation is deadly.

Haha that Vardas girl looked kinda hot.

That's fucked up though, maybe with so many witnesses this cop will actually see some justice. This is way more intense than the "don't tase me bro!" incident.

i think theyre talking about the fucks in blue who are assigned to BART stations like on their shifts and they just chill there and fuck with people. ive seen a few on my pilgrimages back to the town.

I just can't believe we're still in the stage of the officers being arrested and taken in to court.

This isn't a situation where the officers messed up so they'll just be released and then forced into retirement and reclusiveness.

This is a case where the officer who did the shooting be taken to trial for murder. Just because they are police officers doesn't give them the right to kill whoever they choose to.

Hear hear! This is absolutely disgusting. Police officers are no more than normal people with superiority complexes. The cop or who ever it was should be given a full criminal trial. It would be bizzar to have a normal trial, especially because he drew his weapon for no reason.

Are BART police normal police? Or are they just security guards whoa re hired? If they are, why are they carrying firearms?

i think if anything cops should be held to a higher standard than citizens.

but i don't understand how you can accidentally pull out your gun point it at the person turn off the safety and pull the trigger without realizing that there are about 5 officers there and two on one guy. ridiculous.

we just saw a man commit murder.

He should be put in prison for life.

This man just made being a cop that much harder and it will be almost impossible to regain the public trust.

I feel like beating the fuck out of that cop I am so mad...

Exactly. We shouldn't let police officers slide for the transgressions they do. They should be punished more because we put our trust in them to do everything responsibly with a quick mind.

You want us to treat you with more respect than any other citizen by calling you sir and laying in a supine position any time we come in to contact with you. Well you need to earn that damn respect. And by god you won't get it; by coercing confessions out of people who don't need to get in trouble, by getting in that little extra hit in on a defenseless "suspect" just to get some sexual gratification, or whatever the hell you're in to.

This goes to show that maybe our police forces shouldn't be filled with every town reject who couldn't do anything else. And since he has a love for hurting people, why not join the Police? It's the easiest way out for him.

funny thing is, i was at that exact same station about 4 hours before that happened. the policeman was a BART (bay area rapid transit) police officer, which means he was not part of the oakland or alameda police department. he was just hired by BART to patrol the area. he had no fucking reason to shoot the guy, honestly it was just because he was black that he thought the guy had something to do with the scuffle that was going on. shit was FUCKED up.

that really was an execution... I think cop's who commit murder should be charged even harder then regular citizens...it's their job to keep the public safety, not abuse their power. So fucked.

This makes me SO FUCKING MAD. That BART guy straight up executed that guy for no reason. There were so many cops around there and he was laying face down. How much harm could he have possibly done? NOTHING.
This "cop" needs to go to prison for a long, long time.

Good morning america today stated that he might have though he was firing his "tazer Gun".

personally i done see you you mix up a tazer and say a glock or whatever they cops were using, even if it was the gun version.

buuuut, that would explain why he shot him blatently in the back, i mean seriously, why on earth would he just pull out his gun and shoot the dude?

what that cop did is soo messed up in so many different aspects i don't even know where to begin. It was new years eve and this dumbshit cop decides he is going to take the life of a man with a four yr old daughter because he could of been involved in a fight that was clearly already resolved. I hope that cop lives with the most horrid thoughts and remorse of killing that guy for the rest of his life. you could never justify even considering going for your gun in that sitiution, he was already on the ground. what threat did this guy really pose that he needed to be killed on spot?

My dad was an ex-cop and eventually quit because he couldn't stand the people he worked with. I asked him about this and he said if the cop would of been planning on going for the tazer then he would of announced a stand clear and the rest of the cops would of gotten off of him while the officer tazered him because you can't touch someone while they are being tazered. that didn't happen. the cop pulled the gun and shot him on his back. he knew what he was doing the whole time.

This should be no questions asked pre-mediatated murder, i know thats what he won't end up being charged with but the evidence is definiltly there.

"One bystander who was taking photos of the Alley-Barnes arrest with his cellphone was pepper-sprayed and his phone confiscated, according to court documents."

how can that be allowed to happen?

both of these stories disgust me.

wow, im so sick of police taking advantage of their authority. im not one of those people who hate all cops, i know that cops have a tough job and lots generaly do a good job, but i hate cops who abuse their uniform. something needs to change

I think you all just need to calm down and stop being so anti-establishment for 2 seconds. Maybe this guy wouldn't have gotten shot if he was just like any other normal fucking person and rode the train without getting in fistfights with people. Does anyone have a statistic about how many times cops have been shot just because they're cops? I'm not disagreeing that what happened here wasn't unfortunate because it was, especially that he left behind a little girl (He had her when he was 18? That's fucked up but another story).

All im saying is don't be so quick to bash on these cops. They take A LOT of shit and i'm sure that at one point or another you'll all be thankful we have cops, and most of them good ones at that.

who is normal these days??? lol
but i agree
cops get shot at all of the time in cold blood and i dont recall one person making a thread up about it.... but oh shit when a police officer screws up you never hear the end of it
im not saying this cop doesnt deserve to get "the chair" butwhat im trying to say is everyone jumps on the "cops" when they mess up.... but when normal people mess up there is absolutly nothing.... but that is what happends when there are corrupt cops in the system, most notably the Peterson guy from chicago....
and yea i understand why these threads are made because the "pigs" have to much power for this kind of behavior and these things need to be put out there and dont get me wrong they do, but i hate seeing everyone hate on everyother cop out there...

thats just disturbing

i know that doesnt represent all cops but still, a lot of them power trip. idk what would drive him to do that.

Cops are held or should be held to a higher standard than everyone else. They are supposed to be our fucking protectors. Having a cop blatantly shoot someone when the situation was under control is a major fuckup. His life was not in danger, neither was the black dude or the other police or anyone in the fucking station. By just whipping out his gun and shooting this guy he is stooping to the level of a cold blooded criminal, end of story.
ALL cops should be above that.

I don't think he blatantly shot him... There was at least one subway full of people and then those on the platform. If he wanted to kill someone, he would have had the chance to at a more discreet place/time.

I don't know why i'm sticking up for cops, i got ticket last week...

man, i cant belive what will happen to him if he goes to jail and people find out hes a cop. he sure will be fucked

thats what i mean... they should all be above killing in cold blood, but that one obviously wasnt... but that in no way means all the other cops in the country need to get shit about it...
but shouldnt humans be above that to? like seriously in the next town over a guy shot his wife in front of there two kids and then shot himself because of a divorce, now thats plain terrible... and i knew one of the kids....

its not like he was just planning on murdering someone, and trying to get away with it. its cops thinking they have so much power and control over everybody/everything and are above the law.
