Base scratch repair

I did some research on repairing small scratches on the base of my skis and the closest thing I could find were some acrylic/fiberglass repair bottles of plastic-type stuff that hardens inside the cracks. This is pretty much what I'm looking for but I don't want to buy it if there is a better/cheaper strategy. How do you guys repair small scratches on your skis?

Are they like actual scratches(meaning they dig into the ski) that effect how you ski, or are they surface scratches that you don't like the look of? If they don't effect the ski at all when you are riding, then there is no reason to need to fix them.
 
durring the dark ages when I was broke I took a clothing iron and melted trash bags into some core shots.

Got the idea off another new schooler.

trash bags are made of ldpe, which is also what cheap plastic sleds are made of iirc, so its not the worst idea but probably won't bond well
 
Ptex is only a dollar a stick at any local ski shop and then you will not need to pay for shipping and handling. It comes in both black and clear depending on the color of your base. I use a blowtorch but you can also just use a lighter to ignite the end of the stick, once it is on fire it will start to melt onto your skis fill the cracks and scrape the excess off. Probably want to do it a few times to make sure everything bonds well and if you are feeling squirrelly you can take your blowtorch and hit your fresh ptext a few times to make sure that everything melts in properly. If these are just superficial scratches (ie: just surface scratches, no core showing/not deep at all) then do not use ptex just wax your skis and everything will be gravy.
