Barbell Curl pain

Well snobunny said the lifting cult was dead soo... here I go.

I've been using my barbell to curl recently, it was fine for a while but now I get an insane pain shooting up the bone in my forearm, it even hurts to squeeze my fist now. Anybody know why/had this experience?

most likley strained your forearm. possibly ripping muscle. makes sense as when u make a fist you are essentially flexing your forearm. ice it. take 2 advil as they are anti inflamitories and go to bed. pm me if it still hurts as much or worse in the morning.

I've been reading up on it, I think it's either tennis elbow or related to shin splits in my forearm. Hmm, I don't know, I'll see how it feels tomorrow.

I know what your feeling, been lifting for about two years, the pain is still there for me, i just deal with it. Sorry i cannot be more help just gotta deal with it... but it might be because of weak forearms read up on it.

Your problem is typical and stems from weak forearms or uneven forearm strength. What's happening is that you're gripping the bar and putting an uneven amount of pressure on your forearms. The radial bone and the associated muscle is taking more load than the ulna and its associated muscle can handle. A lot of people call it forearm splints.

You have a few ways you can get over the problem.

1. Go to a sporting goods store and get a hand strengthener. Concentrate on using just your ring and little fingers when you squeeze the ball or the springs.

2. Plate pinches - hold 2 barbell plates so the smooth side is facing out. Hold them for 1 minute increments and concentrate on using your ring and little fingers.

It could also be your form, but stay off curls like this for a while. When you start them up again, concentrate on squeezing the bar tightly w/your ring and little fingers. That will help equalize the pressure across your hand.

its a pulled forearm, it happened sometimes in bball with snapping the rim and whatnot, lots of immediate stress put on your forearm. after you've strained it a few times it toughens up though, just like when lifting weights you pull muscle fibers

I don't see how I do plenty of forearm workouts such as wrist curls on a bench, rolling the little rope up with the weight hanging on the end, and some other stuff. It could be me squeezing on the bar to hard, I squeeze when I bench and curl and I can tell because my hands get pretty blistered up. I don't know what you mean by uneven pressure on the forearms.

By the way can I get an invite to the lifting cult?

yeah i have had the same problem. Its shin splints in ur forearm. The muscle tearing away from the bone. Much better then regular shin splints cuz u dont have to walk on ur arms.

i pm'ed you for an invite cuz i tried to make a new cult and got fried for it like 4 months ago.

can i get one now

Uneven pressure means the outside (little finger side) of your forearm is weaker than the inside (thumb side). That's why I said radius and ulna in my previous post.

The source of your problem is your grip. The forearm exercises you mentioned don't work your grip. Squeezing the bar isn't an indication of grip strength.

Well I worked out fine today using a curl bar some slight pain in my forearms, I dont think its my grip because I tried to go light on squeezing the bar today.
