Finally (not in response to any of the idiocy in this thread) i think its HILARIOUS that now hilary is pushing for VP. ITS NEVER GONNA HAPPEN. she went psycho on obama for months do you really think that hes gonna turn around and nominate her as VP. they wouldnt get anything done it would be a huge power struggle. i could see her as MAYBE in a cabinet position (education or health) but i honestly think shes better off in the senate.

no i am not conceding, we are never going to get anywhere because we believe in completley different roles of the government. i see it as a means, for individuals to pursue what they value. you look at it more "what can the government do for me' it seems like, where the government is our master and we are simply servants or something.
yes there are poor people, and it sucks, but the government has granted them freedom to go and get their slice of pie.

so anyone who wasnt lucky enough to have parents like yours is just gonna be fucked over? my cousin comes from a good for nothing family. his father doesnt do shit, he sits on his ass all day. his brother is a juvenile delinquent who most likely wont ever graduate high school, if he lives that long and doenst get shot first. that leaves his mom, in a not so great job trying to support the whole family. he is the only one with any drive but the family is poor, stuck therefore in a crappy school district, and he has no way he could ever pay for college. now your telling me he should be stuck that way? no govt assistance nothing?

 
He's talking about his elders, not himself. I'm sure he works, but I don't think he has to work that hard. I'm sure his parents take care of him to an extent. My great grandmother came to this country from Germany during the first World War. She was a maid to all the well-to-do folk. She worked extremely hard to give her family overseas money and she also started a family here. It is very much so possible to be dirt poor and become a very healthy citizen in this country without having to rely on the government to wipe your ass.
 
Whats wrong with people staying poor? It maintains the status Quo, and enables children born of privilege, such as myself to reach high positions in society based on connections. It ensures that the genteel, blue blooded American way of life is preserved.

no you hit it right on the head there. sure mebbe there was self determination a couple hundred years ago when daddy could make alotta money with his slaves on the cotton plantation, but its old money thats making them rich now. (i know not all of them before you all jump on the generalizations but a large portion)
 
ok thanks for the insult. but are you actually implying that russia wasnt communist? socialism and communism might work well at first and have good intentions, ill give you that. but they dont work long term. because eventually people lose the motivation to succeed. lemme explain. if your gonna be in the same economic position whether you work at McDonalds or are a doctor then wtf is your motivation to be a doctor. now i realize that obama wouldnt be this radically socialist, but he's a start in that direction. now yes i am a white 18 year old whose parents are doing fairly well. but i have a job waiting tables at Big Boy so ive been around people of lower income plenty. about half the workers there depend on that job while the other half like me is just making some spending money. but even the other half is doing ok and i have seen some rise up out of it. this girl i knew for the first few months i worked there was 28 and had been there awhile. the reason she left the Big Boy? to attend Duke university. now idk the details of how all that got financed but its def possible to rise out of it, or even if you dont, still make a living, like a lot of my co-workers do. ok that was a big rant but o well. my piont is even given a disadvantage, higher education is never impossible , it just takes more work for some to succeed. is that fair? no, but neither is life sometimes and barack isnt gonna fix that
 
um yes, that is exactly what i am telling you.

he has drive, you said it yourself. the government is not who should be giving out handouts, thats the whole beauty of a capatalistic society. there are plenty of private and governmental scholarships he can apply to, he can take out loans. there are enough ways for him to advance with just hard work that he does not need someone to give him money. i see it all the time where i live, peurto ricans, mexicans, south americans, all incredibly hard working moving to america and working hard to make their living, and they do, most work until they can pay for their schooling. and just because you dont have successful parents does not mean your 'fucked over'. life is not fair, its not for the government to be giving out handouts. it is not the master, we are not the servants, you have the right to do whatever you want, including sitting on your ass like your cousin does

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean its a joke sure their are some churches that are pretty fucked up but most aren't alot of people go to church because they belive what its about not just to go hang out on sunday morning

i have sympathy for his situation but there are tons of things he can do to get out of that situation. why cant he get a job that gives him the potential to be promoted. i mean shit, does he have a walmart near him? all it takes is hard work, hopefully he can start something good for his family and they can keep the momentum going. thats the beauty of this country, and if he didnt learn that in the 18 years or so he's been here then he's got problems, or you do for not helping him figure that out. Its not about handouts from the government, its about common sense and hard work to achieve great things, so what the hell is wrong with that?

Its morons like you who categorize ever one who can pay for their own medical insurance as rich. The people taxes hurt most are the professional class, such as doctors. Why should someone that has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to put themselves through school be then taxed to death to pay for all those who have done almost nothing with their lives? United States citizens are not owed anything from the government beyond the basic: stable economy and currency, free marketplace, education, and security. That is the purpose of the government, period. You have no idea what true poverty looks like, US citizens have opportunities few others in the world have and are not owed shit if they fuck it up.

Universal health care is shit, period. The system in the UK is a mess, and doctors get fucked out of what they deserve. Explain to me the incentive of becoming a doctor so as to receive sub par government pay? And just imagine the lawsuits by every stupid sue happy asshole in this country... Doctors and other professionals leave Socialist Sweden in droves. Incentives matter, working for a government run medical system is no incentive. Despite what idiots like you think, the government does not know best. In fact, its saturated with incompetence at all levels, maybe we can at least agree on that. There is a proven correlation between increased government intervention and decreased GDP growth in developed nations.

Don't you get it moron? Someone from a low or no income household will have an easier time getting through college on government grants and scholarships than I ever will paying for everything. However, I fully support this, if someone works hard in school to make something of themselves they should have every opportunity to succeed.

Osama Bin Laden's father was a rich contractor in Saudi Arabia. My grandfather worked for the British consulate in Saudi Arabia and knew him personally during the late 50s, early 60s. Chances are my uncle hung out with little Osama, small world eh? Osama was the outcast of the Bin Laden family, one of the main reasons being that he came from the Syrian wife and not from one of the Arab wives, which is why later in life he turned to terrorism to vent his frustrations and deal with his inferiority complex. In the same way that Obama is not a terrorist, neither are the Bin Ladens except the obvious exception. Just as Hitler's relatives are not Nazis.

Then again why don't we talk about Obama's connection to a real and confessed terrorist, William Ayres. An asshole who said "he did not do enough" in an interview that ran in the NY Times on September 11th, 2001. He's one of Obama's Chicago buddies you know.

If you cant afford college, join the military! Thats the main reason people join the military. Hell, a friend of mine was in the airforce, he worked as a programmer in oklahoma for 4 years and now he has free college.
Everyone can afford college one way or another.
