Barack Obama Presumptive Democratic Candidate

doesnt matter mcain will win because the democratic party wont unite behind obama

its like effing star wars up in here

i can't believe shits like you made him leave his church. It's not as big of a deal as you pretend it is.

I also heard on talk radio that the clintons are pushing really hard for Hillary to be his running mate.

just stop. separation of church and state.

if you insist on bringing up endorsement what do you have to say about pastor Hagee?

just because he is in a church he can do/say/act however he wants because of seperation of church and state? joke time

im fucking SICK AND TIRED of retarded hillary supporters blaming ALL THEIR FUCKING PRBLEMS on obama. he played a god damn fair campaign, took down the fucking clinton dynasty, completely owned her 11 contests in a row (and she never caught up) and then what? she lies lies lies, telling people she won more popular vote, which she didnt, telling people she has the most votes EVER< which she doesnt, putting her capaign $20 million + in debt and not even caring about owing a fucking college over 500k and she JUST LOST TO OBAMA AND SHES TALKING ABOUT HOW SHES WINNING. WHAT THE FUCK IS HER FUCKING DEAL. also, sick of crazy woman just fufilling the stereotype of crazy woman who complaign that everyone hates her cuz shes a woman, did they completely forget how she fucking told florida and michigan that their votes didnt matter, her senior campaign advisers SIGNED A PAPER that said florida and michigan didnt count, and still fought it to the end when the rules were played normally. god damn it i fucking hate her

no WAY she deserves VP slot.

those who insist on caring so much about what reverend Wright has said. Those who have persisted on this topic way beyond any minute importance it has ever had.

You got to give her some pity, shes desperate to be remembered.

I don't think, however, that she would be a good VP candidate. My votes for john edwards in that slot, but i heard he doesnt want to play 2nd man again after Kerry. Its too bad, hes a great guy and he carries the support of the lower class.

your an idiot. you and your smartass responses to everything.
hagee simply said he endorsed john mccain and mccain said he was getting money from hagee. he then, after hearing what hagee believed denied the funds. this is COMPLETLEY different from being a member of his church for 20 years, and bringing your wife and kids to hear the sermons every sunday.

please refer above to Hagge.

If you are in the same boat as ax_murder i think you guys are super disrespectful in invading someone's private life as much as you have. It's not like he all of a sudden decided to denounce Wright just to appease you. When Wright's comments were brought to Obama's attention, he first gave Wright a chance to redeem him self -- (which is fair seeing that Obama has known him for so long) and after when Wright continued to be this 'changed person' Obama rejected him, this is something he would have done on his own, he doesn't need you holding his hand giving him help on how to make decisions based on his religious views.

i completley agree with you. john edwards seems like a genuine person and would be a good vice president. i dont think hilary would do well as second best.

HAHAHA!

first, he is a fucking presidential nomination. thats really all i need to say about you 'invading private life' comment. we need to know who we are electing to lead our country.

second. ''its not like he all of a sudden decided to denounce Wright just to appease you." thats EXACTLY what he did. haha thats whats so ridiculous about this whole thing. he has been going to this church for TWENTY years. he has sat through, i would assume, countless inflamatory, hatefilled, fire and brimstone sermons. he brings his chirldren and wife there to hear him speak, and he supports him in the offering. once media hits him about wright, he denounces him, tell me how thats not to appease me.

i put that right back at you.

Obama hasn't been to church in months, he obviously hasn't gone to church every Sunday as he wasn't in church when Wright made the inflammatory comments. He didn't seek out Wrights endorsement, and you've gotta realize that 20 years is a long time to know someone -- people change over time, what once might have been a close relationship has changed, Obama HAS rejected the views you all care so deeply about.

Secondly McCain sought out endorsement by Hagee. THAT is what is important. If you're going to seek out someone's endorsement you'd better well be aware of what they stand for.

Finally the thing is, these aren't the subjects which we should be most concerned with. If you seriously think THIS is the most salient aspect of being president, do us a favor don't vote.

Well separation of church and state almost has nothing to do with a

presidential candidate. What was at issue was a couple of factors: the ideology of the candidate. That is, if he was a member of the church

for 20+ years, gave thousands of dollars to the church, and had

hundreds of thousands in tax money go to the church and its members,

than it should suffice to say that he would at least embody some of the

ideology of the church. While no church or belief system has full, 100%

support amongst all people, there is a stark difference between a

church and one that chooses to have some "black" people and culture,

Afrocentric and hate-filled. To say that it isn't is asinine. If there

was a white presidential candidate equivalent under the same

circumstances, there would be not a single shot in the world for that

candidate. This is not just some minuscule case of

guilt-by-association, because his role in the church is far beyond that

of most members in most churches anywhere.

Hagee is basically a

nut-job too. But an endorsement would be different than an endorsement

by somebody that is your direct spiritual leader, as was Obama's case

(even though Wright et. al were not actually endorsing him. It what was

going on behind the scenes that was a big deal). I think it would be a bad idea to support a guy like him. His radical stances toward some subjects have a tiny touch of validity, as do a tiny bit of those within UTCOC, but it doesn't make them acceptable. McCain said it right, but also had the benefit that Hagee is not a pastor whom was a constant and direct influence for two decades. So while both people like Hagee and Wright are pretty wild in their ideas (at least to me), the two cannot be compared to McCain and Obama, respectively. If you were to make a comparison, you would have to look at Dan Yeary, who differs greatly between the two aforementioned pastors.

The second

issue was Obama's handling of the situation, very politician like, if

you will. At first he defended it, as though there was no harm or that

wasn't possible to renounce his pastor, then it was like a pay day when

Wright shot his mouth off again on TV, at which time he could finally

have a point to diverge from him. Since that didn't go over well with

many, he had to further his stance to where it is at now - severed, but

really only in word.

Does it seem unfair to go after somebodies private life? Well, if you're a presidential candidate, nearly every aspect of your life, political and private, are exposed, from how you vote, your income, to your goddamn food. I would say ideaology is a very important aspect for any serious candidate. It's not so much that the views within the leaders of the Trinity United Church are pretty radical (which they are) but so much that Obama ran/is running his campaign on this intangible "change," but those who are supposed to guide his spiritual and strongly influence his and his families life are going for a change/hate that is nearly polar opposite. Pretty big deal, if you ask me.

I'm a moderate, not religious at all, and even though I don't really give 2 shits about what has transpired pretty much thus far, the past record ain't so clean, so he (Obama) won't be getting my vote unless some serious shit hits a serious fan.

well i was unaware, and doubful, that mccain sought his endorsement, i do know he approved of it until he heard what hagee stood for... if your right then touche. but still, that is not on the same level as wright and obama, you are playing it down because you support him.
and when did i say this is the most important aspect? another illinformed smartass comment...

no he didn't, obviously you missed the part where he said that the inflammatory comments that were made were that of a different person that he knew when he first met him.

AND since when is going to a church mean that you hold the same views as the leader of the church?

I went to church for over 10 years being an athiest. I promise you, what you believe and what the pastor believes do not have to be the same thing.

you're just being a dumbass.

Alright so here's how this is gonna go right now: I'm gonna say something pro-Barack, and then skiminnesota is gonna come back and try to own me.

The whole pastor thing is a non-issue to me. If that's what Barack actually believed then how did he get so many votes? And also, I said previously in another Barack thread that I would not respect him if he disowns his pastor and church, but then I realized, with how big you people are making this issue, it's impossible to run a campaign successfully without disowning them. Although I and many others agree that this is a non-issue, there are tons of people out there who are bitching about the Rev, and in order to create a successful campaign you need to eliminate little shit like this so the best way to do it is take yourself out of it, because Barack confronting the issue head on kind of backfired, and so ended up taking himself out of that church.

Also, I really hope Hillary does not enter the presidential campaign with Barack, because that would be a recipe for disaster. McCain is gonna claim everything that Hillary was against Obama about, and if she defends Barack, leading to the claim that she cannot stick to what she says, yadayadayada...

He doesn't have enough experience to run a country anyway. McCain sadly has my vote because I don't want a waffling socialist and an unexperienced senator with the name "Hussein" running the country I live in. Sorry, that sounds really mean but I'm sincere.

its great news! heres the thing about the minister that should make it completely irrelevant. You go to church because you agree with their religious views not personal/political views. How many of you people have friends that have done or said something terrible or has a rough side to them. Yet they have always been good to you.... so you keep supporting them. That is why it should be a non issue. As a politics major student entering fourth year university I can say I am friends with people all over the political spectrum, (commies, fascists, and those who consider bush extremely liberal (not just fiscally) and everything in between. Are you saying it is wrong for me to associate with these people who have not been charged with any crimes and have been good and respectful to me.

Hes not there for political advice hes there for religious guidance. Drop it people

okay you're completely entitled to your opinions, but how can you say having the middle name hussein in some way makes a man unable to be a good president? it's not like he's related to saddam. it truly has NOTHING to do with anything.

I should have know you guys would have gone for the "Hussein" bit because it was the only bit you could maybe get anything on.

His name has little to do with why I won't vote for him, but it is a tiny part that bothers me. I know it is just a name, but it's where he originated from. What is the first thing that pops into mind when you see the name "Barack", "Hussein" or "Obama". The first thing I think of is Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. I know...he isn't a terrorist and he isn't Muslim, but how does that make us look to other countries? Again, that is a very small issue with me. The biggest issues with me are his views on abortion, guns, etc. And the fact that he doesn't have any experience. Two years in the Senate hardly makes you credible.

i can see your views have shifted :)

my work is under way :)

o, can we get a jury ruling, i think i really did PWN you in the other Barack thread... :O

and you should check out the GOP cult, i think i sent you an invite but if you need another one, hit me up...

c'mon you know you are making a huge leap from obama sitting in the pews to him agreeing with everything the guy says

my priest says that gays are going to hell, but thats not what I believe

sorry for the tre post, but i need to get out one more point

it is very hypocritical of Hilary to pounce on this pastor issue, because when the whole Lewinsky thing was going down, it was a "personal issue" for her and off the table for discussion. Isn't someone's spirituality a "personal issue"?

Wow dude chill. Its not like shes doing anything crazy, she hasnt been lying and she played a fair campaign too. By the way she did win the popular vote, which does mean a lot. And she has the right to stay in the campaign until there is noway she can win.

And on the whole reverend thing, it really does reflect obama, but just because his reverend is extreme, that doesnt mean that obama and his family live by every word he says. Maybe he does give some good sermons. So you really have to ask yourself if you have the faith in him to beleive that he doesnt endorse wright to the extent that the media says.

i think thats what makes obama a good candidate though...is that he is new..and isnt clogged with years of washington petty politics and personal alliances. and if you look at what he has actually voted for and done in the senate he is plenty credible. quality of quantity...
it is also sad that you think our country will look bad if someone with a "terrorist" sounding name is president....i think it would actually show other countries that americans arent the fat ignorant pigs they think we are and are capable of listening to the issues and not making decisions based on superficial predjudices...but whatever...i can't vote anyway....

^yea, i dont see why they have that system. But i assume that its just beyond me. sucks that it had to come down to the super delegates though

this is why politics are so fucked. because people are actually this retarded and this extends to the wright controversy, too. he didn't say anything that offensive. what about pat roberston's comments after sept 11th (way more offensive and McCain spoke at his university) and McCain's preacher (who hates jews)? the only reason the wright thing picked up steam is cuz the guy is an animated black preacher that made a great clip for the 24 hr cable news circuit (talk about out-of-context).

You didn't pwn me, the series of events that happened pwned me.

Before this became a huge issue, Barack claimed that the Rev was like a crazy uncle who says outrageous things, even though you don't agree with what he says, you still love him because he's your uncle. I stood where Barack did on this one, and that was my main stance where you thought you "pwned" me.

After the whole Rev issue blew up WAY bigger than it ever should have, it only made sense with his campaign that Barack should have let him go. You can't run a solid campaign with people questioning his views like that every two seconds instead of focusing on real issues that actually matter. I only realized this recently.

And my views never shifted, I just thought through a deeper analysis as to why Obama disowned his pastor and exited his church. I still believe and understand that black people go through some of the sickest most inhumane shit ever day with racism, and that even though the Rev used some innapropriate means of getting his point out there, he did so effectively because before, not many were listening. I still HATE, HATE, HATE, racism, and yes some of the Rev's comments were racist against white people, but they will never compare to everything else white people have done to black people in the past so white people shouldn't even be trippin the slightest bit about the Rev's comments.

Whatcha got for me now?

no, i disagree the super delegate system is a simple but effective way for the leaders of the party to pick the right canidate

wouldn't want to trust regular people with that, considering 51% of the nation voted for bush

^yea word. wright was summed up in a 30 second soundbite...and it was easy to attack him using that

kinda changing the subject...but i think if obama does get the white house..clinton should still be involved...like as secretary of health and welfare...since shes really good at that and has made a lot of progress as a senator and as first lady in those areas...i donno...any other opinions?

you dont know that
and hillary is thinking about obamas vice pres spot
idk if he wants her but still

Honestly, I think that little experience in this current, corrupt system is a good thing. Maybe now without billions of dollars due to lobbying influence we can have a shot at honest, straight up politics; something I have NEVER seen (Barack does not accept lobbyist money). Maybe instead of negative attack politics as both Hillary and McCain (people with "experience") have been using, we will see a more positive, more view oriented political game (as Obama has been playing throughout the whole race).

Maybe little experience isn't such a bad thing.
